DIY interior paintings

The decor completes the decoration of the home, but perhaps the most exciting and creative stage begins with it. In modern interior solutions, it has become fashionable to replace purchased items with those created with your own hands. The handmade technique is becoming overwhelmingly popular. The gizmos not only do for themselves, but also give to loved ones, and especially talented craftsmen even sell works. If open shelves can be forced with souvenirs brought from travels and cute little things (vases, figurines), then wall decoration is sometimes confusing. Usually, a layer of putty is applied to their surface, and then plaster or wallpaper. However, “solid” walls, albeit with a beautiful coating, still seem “bare” and create a feeling of incompleteness.

Unusual decoration will be home-made paintings for the interior. They will transform the home environment and add creative notes to the decoration of the room.The most famous and complex painting technique that comes to mind first is painting. The art of drawing images with paints is not for everyone's strength, but there are a number of other options, for one of which talent can wake up completely unexpectedly. Original pictures can be obtained from improvised materials: fabric, cereals, flowers, twigs, leather, beads, paper, accessories, threads. The technique of creating genuine masterpieces is massive, and the creative process is so exciting that it will drag you into a whirlpool.

Where to start and where to look for inspiration

You got the idea to create a picture with your own hands, but you’re completely lost and don’t know from which end to untie this knot. Try to enter the room where the canvas is supposed to be placed. The very atmosphere of the room, its decoration should inspire the necessary thoughts or at least set a vector. Choose the wall where you hang the picture. Appreciate the color scheme, the invoice of materials, the play of light. Close your eyes and try to draw a sketch in your imagination. If you stood a pillar in the middle of the room, but couldn’t come up with anything, then it’s time to turn to other authors for help. Foreign art objects sometimes become a storehouse of interesting ideas.

Learn the technique, determine the level of complexity of the work you like, select the necessary materials. But perhaps the most important thing is to correctly assess your capabilities and the talents of the decorator. If your level is below average, close to the initial, it is better to test the pen on simple options. One desire is not enough, the complete set also includes talent and skill.If the latter comes with time after persistent practical exercises, then the absence of the gift cannot be fully compensated for by diligence. The muse, as you know, a lady with character and at the first call does not come. The sacrament of her call does not imply any special rites. Each person has his own sources of inspiration, but most of us draws it from nature: its smells, sounds and species. Be it a tree, a flower bouquet, bird trills, aromas of freshly cut grass, the play of sunlight on glass or the tentacles of fog in the morning field. This source of inspiration is inexhaustible. You can fall for it constantly.

Methods of creating paintings mass. Every year there are all new original techniques. Among the popular methods noted:

  • Silhouette paintings;
  • Glass mosaic or egg-shell mosaic technique;
  • Volumetric compositions;
  • Pictures of beads, cabochons, shibori ribbons, crystals, sequins;
  • Styrofoam Images;
  • Backlit decor;
  • Images from shreds of fabric, ribbons and accessories;
  • Threads and carnations as a basis;
  • Compositions of grains, cereals and legumes;
  • Eco-friendly products made from natural materials;
  • Herbaria on paper;
  • Embroidery.

Headboard paintings

This is a list of only popular methods, and the entire list of their names will not fit on several pages. Any material can be used in different ways, and each result will be completely different from the finished composition created in a different technique. Most of the work will require only scissors, a clerical knife, needles and glue. A basic set of tools can be found in every home.

Abstraction

For abstractionism is not a reflection of the surrounding reality. This direction of art conveys rather the perception of the world by the author. To a greater extent, abstractness is fixated on the sensations of a person who has already seen or heard something and decided to share this revelation with others.In traditional painting, viewers are invited to independently interpret the composition, which is appreciated for the accuracy of the transmission of colors and lines. Abstractness does not force the artist to hyperrealism, so the art form is suitable for beginners. The canvas is often based on geometric patterns, broken or rounded lines, strange color combinations, obscure silhouettes. For paintings with blurry features, watercolor is used, as it perfectly conveys a similar mood. To get more accurate details, take acrylic, tempera or gouache. The latter is much cheaper, so it is suitable for the first timid attempts to find yourself in the world of art.

Light picture

Light paintings look spectacular at night, they also serve as decorative lamps. Prepare a pattern with a picture. Each element is cut separately and its contours are transferred onto a plastic sheet. It is not recommended to use a completely transparent material, but a dense MDF sheet will not work. Find the average option that will transmit light. The picture should have several levels, for a volumetric effect, so the composition of plastic parts is crushed into layers. Styrofoam ribbons are laid between them. All layers are glued to each other and to the base. After drying, it is inserted into the frame. On the reverse side, a special groove under the wire is cut in it. Then along the perimeter stretch the RGB tape. A groove is needed for the controller output. The picture is ready to appreciate its beauty, just turn off the light and press a couple of buttons on the remote control.

Picture from threads

About twenty years ago, these works became a new word in art. You will need a wooden base, small cloves, a hammer and thread. First, of course, you need to sketch on the canvas. Then, cloves are driven along its contour. The distance between them usually does not exceed 0.5 cm. The closer the cloves stand to each other, the less “voids” are formed in the picture.Start advised with simple forms to fill your hand. Then they take the first thread, carefully fix it and begin to wrap each clove. Separate modules are performed in different colors. Another technique uses thick woolen threads. On the basis of the printed pattern, they begin to stick. The end of the thread is attached to the center of the element and begin to wrap it around it, forming concentric circles. Ready-made canvases are soft, voluminous and pleasant to the touch.

Stylish Silhouettes

Perhaps this is the best option for those who can draw only flowers on the back pages of notebooks. The silhouette paintings are universal and resemble both classical and modern styles. They are made of paper, they use paints or a marker. To make a similar element it is enough to prepare the source code. The sample is transferred onto the canvas on its own or duplicated from the template, and then painted over. In order to get a silhouette for the source from an ordinary portrait, you need to adjust the contrast settings in any simple Photoshop program.

Eco paintings

To create eco-paintings, use any natural materials: pieces of wood, twigs, stones, blades of grass, leaves, moss. The components are glued to a solid base and placed in a frame. Unusually and beautifully look triptychs, consisting of several modules. For example, the decor is based on three colors: gray, black and purple. Take dry branches and divide each transverse into three parts. The lowest “bundle” is tightly fastened with a thread. It is painted in purple, glued to a black canvas and surrounded by a gray frame. The next module will be a little smaller. Inside the purple frame, the second part of the black branches on a gray canvas is located, which serves as a continuation of the previous composition. The last module consists of “tops”. Twigs are painted in gray, placed in a black frame on a purple canvas. The triptych is placed vertically with an offset to one side.It is not recommended to close such a composition with glass, since its relief looks natural and organic. You can decorate a bedroom or a hall with original moss paintings. The art object will bring harmony to the room, make it more peaceful.

Paper painting

Working with paper is represented by many techniques. In recent years, a real “boom” has gone through quilling: creating images using ribbons twisted in a special way. The finished product turns out to be voluminous, and masters who fill their hand can recreate huge canvases with precision in small details. You can also make a relief coating of papier-mâché (soaked paper pulp). The canvas on top is painted and placed in a frame. From the material create individual elements in the origami technique, which are then glued to the base. Modular paintings from small paper pieces folded into volumetric triangles or squares in the same technique look great.

Bean picture

For the products of this type, perhaps the shortest master class. All that is required for work is the base, cereals (legumes can be not limited to) and glue. A sketch of the drawing is applied to the canvas. Then its individual parts are coated with glue, and loose decor is applied on top of it. You can use not only beans or chickpeas, but also pasta, rice, buckwheat, coffee beans and even salt.

Styrofoam painting

Styrofoam sheets are made in two popular techniques. Both types use foamed plastic solely as a base, for the decoration of which a fabric is needed. The first method will allow you to create abstractions that emphasize the interior features with complex geometry. On a foam of a special shape (usually square), whole pieces of fabric with various patterns are applied. The canvas is cut off at the edges, which are wrapped to the back of the base and fixed on it (paper clips or glue). Such paintings do not need frames.On the wall usually flaunts compositions from several canvases. Another technique - kinusayga will require more patience. A pencil drawing is applied to the foam base. Start with simple geometric patterns. Then, a clerical knife is drawn along the contour. Fabric shreds are slightly larger in size than the element itself, impose on it. Their edges are pressed into the cuts with a thin, flat tool (metal ruler, nail file) so that there are no wrinkles on the surface. After the simple picture is ready, you can try more complex images with "torn" features.
It's important to know. Kinusaiga technique, as the name implies, came from Japan. Usually in this way, fabrics from old kimonos that are not customary to throw away are reused.

Volumetric picture

To create three-dimensional paintings use any materials that have a relief. However, pictures of silk ribbons, leather and foamiran look more elegantly. The better the element will keep its shape, the easier it is to compose. Very neat pictures can come out of the skin. Individual pieces of fabric are simply glued to the base, while maintaining folds for volume. Silk ribbons create luxurious bouquets. The advantage of the material in its pliability: it is enough to fix the fabric with threads in a certain position, and it will save it. Some achieve volume by duplicating parts. Usually paper products are made. Two identical elements are cut out. To the front side of one is attached several "legs" of foam. They are glued to the inside of the second similar part. It turns out the effect of volume. A similar technique looks original in flat paintings, where individual sections become accented.

Herbarium painting

Almost everyone at one time collected maple leaves in autumn parks and dried especially beautiful flowers between the pages of books.Many forgot about the "secret" and after years the find, accidentally falling out, reminded of the times of a carefree youth. Flowers and leaves for the herbarium must be dried before the harvesting process. They are placed between layers of rice paper or napkins. The material perfectly absorbs excess moisture. Then the components of the future herbarium, surrounded by several layers of cardboard, are placed under the press. About a week will be enough for quality drying and leveling.

Herbarium painting

On the basis of flowers and leaves are attached with decoupage glue. The composition depends only on the imagination of the creator. It can be bouquets of wildflowers, decorated with silk ribbons or abstract paintings. To keep the canvas longer, it is covered with a layer of varnish or epoxy. Decorative canvases with sakura flowers on gouache-drawn branches look spectacular. A similar picture can decorate interiors decorated in Japanese style or minimalism.

Picture beads and crystals

Beadwork and bugles will not surprise anyone. Jewelry from them became popular thirty years ago. For work, it is better to purchase high-quality materials, of the same size, which will help to make a neat picture. The best are Yakut beads and Japanese tono. To create accent elements, it is recommended to use cabochons of appropriate colors. Semi-precious and precious stones are polished in a special way. As a result, they are convex, but with a flat base. Beaded paintings embroider. Instead of threads, it is better to use a thin fishing line: it is stronger and more reliable. Crystal paintings are sold in sets. The standard set includes crystals in individual bags under the numbers, two types of tweezers, a tray for small parts, a special sticky stick, in which a stick is dipped to press “diamonds” to the canvas, and a canvas with an image on it. Each package contains instructions.The canvas is pre-coated with a special sticky layer that holds crystals perfectly. The latter can be round or square. More often, the canvases are solid without voids, but sometimes they create brilliant drawings-outlines of animals, birds, people against a spectacular black background. The finished work is covered with a cloth and fixed, walking with a rolling pin on the surface with effort. The main advantage of paintings made of crystals: they do not fade, unlike embroidery, and will retain their original appearance even after years.

Bead picture

Decor from beads is also worth doing according to the finished scheme. It can be found on the Internet or bought in special stores for needlewomen.

Fabric paintings

Fabric paintings are usually made of shreds. Start work by pulling the base web onto the subframe. The procedure is carried out carefully, avoiding the formation of unnecessary folds. Then a drawing is applied on the canvas with a pencil. If you do not have the talent of an artist, then you can use the template. Even special sets are sold where the canvas already has a pattern with numbered zones for individual colors. Then for work you will need scissors, threads, a needle and pieces of fabric. The patches are cut in the shape of the element, which they will “close” with small reserves and sew to the base.

Conclusion

The paintings in the interior will become the center, a highlight of the situation. The original decor cannot be used as a background, it will attract other people's views. Having tried himself in the role of a decorator once, many are not limited to this and continue creative experiments. When the scope of the work goes beyond meeting the personal need for decor, they begin to give it to loved ones, and after that they even sell it as author’s paintings.

I love needlework and everything connected with it. Especially home-made furnishings are my passion!
