  • granite - in the composition of the rock has quartz, mica, feldspar. It is considered the hardest, strongest, wear-resistant in the world, but it is relatively easy to process.   • marble - rock, mostly composed of calcite, various minerals. By color - beige, gray, black, yellow, blue, etc. It is solid, antistatic, abrasion resistant, moisture resistant, environmentally friendly. It is formed near mineral springs that carry calcium salts, limestone, carbon dioxide to the surface. It is easy to harvest, pale green, red-red, beige, milky white in color.It has low thermal conductivity, excellent frost resistance, low price;

Some stones are believed to be radioactive. This is not entirely true - materials on sale go through strict radiological control.

Mounting Features

Installation of decorative finishes is carried out on pre-aligned walls, using cement, adhesive mixtures. Sticking tiles, pebbles on your own is not difficult, you only need high-quality raw materials, tools. In a newly-built house, the cladding is made only after the building shrinks, otherwise it can quickly fall off. The “wild” stone is laid arbitrarily, square, rectangular in uniform rows.

How to choose a stone

Wall decoration is divided into internal, external. Artificial stone is usually used for interior work - it is lighter in weight, cheaper, easier to lay. It is very popular now under brick, under granite or marble, sandstone, bassoon and others. Of the natural ones, limestone, shell rock, slate are used, less often marble, granite, onyx. Natural ones are suitable for creating expensive, almost "eternal" interiors.

When choosing material for decoration, you should decide in which room it will be used. Different places require stones with various properties - water resistance, heat insulation, heat resistance. For a kitchen apron, it is not recommended to use a coating with a complex texture - to clear of drops of fat, pieces of food it is extremely problematic.

Load calculation

The wall load is calculated independently or using special online calculators. It is necessary to consider what the wall is made of, its thickness. If the weight per square meter of the tile is within 25 kg, then excessive loads are not imposed on the surface. OSB plates withstand significant weight. The smaller, lighter the pebbles, the more likely they are to hold on for a long time, tight. The material consumption depends on the area of the treated surface, which is calculated by multiplying the length of the wall by height. Repair experts recommend buying a stone with a margin of 5-10%, especially if you have to cut it off in some places, adhere to a certain pattern, or it is simply excessively fragile.

Surface and stone preparation for laying

Before you start spreading the surface with pebbles, you need to align the walls - carefully, as if under wallpaper.All previous coatings should be removed - the remains of old paint, wallpaper, are cleaned with an iron brush. Next, the base must be carefully primed, after which tiles can be laid. Of the materials you need the stone itself, tile adhesive. The heavier the lining, the more glue is needed, the “stronger” it should be. There are two types: gypsum based and cement. On the packaging they usually write what kind of work this or that composition is intended for.

Tools for laying decorative stone

Stone laying

When all the finishing materials and tools are prepared, proceed to gluing.

Her stages:

  • glue application;
  • tile laying;
  • rustication;
  • protective coating.

Laying decorative stone on the wall

First, the glue is kneaded, applied to the wall in small portions - it should not dry out, be thick, but not crumble. The adhesive composition is distributed with a smooth spatula, and smeared on the tile with a serrated one. You can use "liquid nails", cement. Each part is pressed tightly against the wall. After gluing is completed, all excess is removed from the surface and seams. It is desirable that the solution does not get on the front part - it will be difficult to clean it. The bricks are firmly attached to the wall of wood, drywall, aerated concrete using proper bonding with a special compound. If the tile is glued to the cement mortar, then you first need to fill the paint grid, plaster on it. If necessary, the parts are cut with a hacksaw, grinder.

Laying should start from the corner, from the bottom up, row by row.Usually, fastening is done under the joint, that is, the tiles will be slightly removed from each other, the spaces between them are filled with a solution, the excess of which should be removed. The width of the seam is supposed to be about one and a half cm. If no seams are provided, then the bricks are placed as tightly as possible, close to each other.

The coating must be applied if:

  • the house has children, pets;
  • the wall is in a humid room;
  • the stone is painted;
  • cheap bricks of low quality.

Decorative stone in the interior of different rooms

For the design of the bathroom they use natural onyx, marble, a mosaic, a “cascade” of different stones are suitable. Corridor walls cover them partially, completely, lay out the arch. Correctly placed light sources look good - so the stone looks more profitable. When used without additional lighting, in places that are not visible from the street, a cave effect is obtained.

In the living room there are often indoor plants - they are also originally combined with walls. Glass vases, metal furniture, clay flower pots will be very "in the subject." It is not recommended that you completely lay out the space of the bedroom, another living room, with a stone - it is very cold, it is better to limit yourself to a brick or stone doorway, partially decorate the partitions (if any) between the bedroom and another room from chipboard, plywood.

The use of any stone, especially textured, in the nursery is categorically not recommended - children often run, falling, they can get serious injury from hitting a stone wall.

When the area being finished is very small in area, it is better to completely abandon the stone, since it “takes” part of the usable area. As an option - use flexible artificial or natural thin tiles - up to five millimeters. In spacious rooms, this material is used without restrictions.
