Below we talked about how to make a variety of stone crafts. It can be both simple paintings and applications, as well as unusual figures, products for decorating walls and furniture. Also, from the sea or river pebbles, you can easily update the old photo frame, vase or make a completely new cool candlestick. Decorative crafts are easily made and do not need to use special tools or expensive materials. Most of the crafts reviewed can be done with children and adolescents. Moreover, the resulting products will not only have an unusual appearance, but can also be useful in everyday life, used to develop attention, memory and fine motor skills in children.

Features of the material and crafts

Natural stones are ideal for making various crafts for adults and children. Such a material has increased wear resistance, therefore, even after a long time, the finished picture or three-dimensional figure will retain its original appearance. To connect the pebbles, universal silicone glue is usually used. You can also connect them together or stick to the base with a glue gun. When preparing the stones for use, a prerequisite is their degreasing. Such a procedure will guarantee a good adhesion of the surface of the material to any substrate. As a coloring composition for stones, it is recommended to use acrylic paints, nail varnishes, as well as felt-tip pens. Gouache when fixed with varnish can be partially erased. The final processing of natural stone can be carried out with transparent varnish or wax (if the stone has not been painted and glued).

What stones to use

The most popular types of stones used for crafts are sea and river pebbles. Its adults and children can easily pick up during a summer vacation or while walking on the river or sea at any other time of the year. Due to the constant exposure to water, they have a neat rounded shape, a smooth surface. The minimum porosity of the pebbles provides high-quality adhesion to the stone surface of any varnishes, paints. Ideal for work are considered almost flat pebbles with even forms: oval, circle. But also from volumetric stones you can make the most realistic crafts in the form of a variety of animals, figures.

As additional materials can be used glass "pebbles" (with perfectly even or unusual shapes), as well as fake stones. Imitations of natural pebbles are sold in needlework stores in different shades and shapes.

Decoupage on the stones

You can make fairly simple and quick decor of natural materials such as pebbles using ordinary napkins. Decoupage is carried out easily and quickly, allowing you to get a custom decoration for your home. For work, it is recommended to use pebbles with minimal porosity and one smooth side. Additionally, you need white acrylic paint, PVA, a flat wide brush. The work itself is done with your own hands in such a master class:

  1. The stone is degreased (with acetone or nail polish remover), then coated with a sponge with white acrylic paint.
  2. A leaf with a color pattern is separated from the napkin (white napkin leaves are not used). A suitable image, an element, is cut to the size of the pebble.
  3. PVA is divorced with water (in a ratio of 2 to 1). A cut piece of napkin is applied to the stone.
  4. A wide dense brush is dipped in diluted PVA, then a tissue is smeared with this glue. You need to glue it with pushing movements so as not to displace.
  5. After the glue has dried, the pebbles are coated with a colorless varnish.

Stone painting

Another way to decorate sea and river pebbles is to paint them. The work is recommended to be carried out with the help of acrylic paints: they dry quickly, are not lubricated with a protective coating of the craft with varnish. You can draw on the stones any patterns: stripes, dots, curls. To create simple children's crafts, you can choose more unusual motifs, for example, make such collections:

  • with different insects (butterfly, ladybugs, bugs);
  • in rainbow colors (for studying colors);
  • in the form of planets;
  • in the form of fabulous houses and their inhabitants (fairies, unicorns, humans, elves);
  • with different trees;
  • with animals (e.g., forest, domestic, marine).

Painting on stones

The painting can be carried out simply on pebbles (without a base) or on top of a white primer. Collections with drawings of white paint look very nice, made on the same (or as similar in color as possible) gray-brown pebbles.

Panel and paintings

From simple pebbles, as well as simulating precious and semiprecious stones, you can create amazing paintings with your own hands. The work can be carried out using different technologies: using a monophonic background, a prepared picture. The following master classes are perfect for creating such a decor:

  • Layout of the panel "Aquarium".

On the sheet of cardboard is drawn the seabed and its inhabitants. Pebbles and shells are glued to the bottom with a glue gun.

  • Silhouette paintings.

A small sheet of plywood is covered with soil. A silhouette is drawn with a pencil over it (very neatly). Inside this silhouette stones of different sizes are glued. In this way, you can make pictures in the form of trees, houses, flowers, animals.

Painting of stones

  • Paintings with a color base.

A finished drawing is printed on cardboard - city, landscape. For work, imitation stones in different colors are used. The stones stick on top of the elements with the corresponding color (green or yellow on the trees, brown on the ground).

  2. Stones with approximately the same thickness are glued to pieces of plywood.
  3. The empty space between the stones is filled with epoxy.

Stone stand

Also made of stones are very beautiful rugs for the hallway and bathroom. They are suitable for use in baths, saunas. You can make them yourself as follows:

  1. Glue pebbles pre-fatty with acetone or alcohol to the old rubber mat. For work, universal silicone glue or a glue gun is suitable.
  2. Coat the edges of the mat with silicone glue (for additional fixation of stones).
  3. Allow the glue to harden. Optionally, pour between the stones a small layer of glue, epoxy. Or “fasten” the elements with tiled grout.

Garden decor

Large pebbles can be used not only for home decor, but also for garden decoration.The most interesting ideas for improving landscape design include:

  • Laying tracks.

The track can be completely laid out of pebbles or used to frame a concrete track.

Stone path

  • Installation of the fountain.

For this task, large boulders are used, in the center of which a hole is drilled. Then they are fixed among themselves (observing the coincidence of the holes in the individual elements). After connecting to the pump, installation.

Fountain

  • Dry brook.

A very stylish “trickle” can be made of pebbles of different sizes, which are laid out inside a shallow trench.

Stone carving and engraving

Making stone decor by carving and engraving is a rather complicated, but quite feasible task. To create crafts, you will need: a special engraver with stone nozzles and mini-grinding wheels, protective equipment (glasses, a mask, gloves), wax, water, a felt-tip pen. Manufacturing of products is carried out according to the following master class:

  1. A pattern is drawn on a fat-free stone with a felt-tip pen.
  2. With the help of an engraver, the pattern is sawn out.
  3. The dust formed is washed off with water, the stone is dried or wiped dry.
  4. The stone is polished (to give smoothness, if necessary).
  5. Then the stone is waxed or varnished.

Stone engraving

On porous stones it is better to draw not with a felt-tip pen, but with wax crayons.Also, the selection of nozzles for the engraver should be carried out based on the characteristics of the stone: its density, friability, structure.

Decor of flower pots with pebbles

An ordinary plastic flower pot can be turned into a real work of art using sea or river pebbles. You can learn more about such a transformation in the following master class:

  1. Completely process the plastic pot with fine abrasive sandpaper.
  2. For gluing, select the smallest pebbles with the same shade (for example, gray, coffee or gray-white).
  3. The flower pot is completely covered with pebbles. The pebbles are fixed with a glue gun.
  4. When the glue hardens, you can begin to stain pebbles. This may be an image of a pattern, silhouette. For work, acrylic paint is used.
  5. After the paint dries, the finished product is covered with a transparent varnish.

The work can be simplified simply by using different pebbles in shape and color. But they should not be too voluminous or large.

Ideas for creativity with children

Each child will like to work with stones and create non-standard products, since such material is rarely used for creativity. Together with the child you can make the following crafts from pebbles:

  • Applications.

Having previously painted the stones in different colors, you can make applications in the form of caterpillars, butterflies, flowers.

  • Volumetric figures.

From a pair of flat small pebbles and one large one you can make a simple frog. Also, having drawn the little men on large volumetric stones and glued hair from knitting threads to them, you can get nice stone dolls.

Children's stone crafts

  • Interior decor.

Having painted the pebbles in green and pink, yellow colors can make cute cacti. They are recommended to be installed in a flower pot. Having also laid out several pebbles nearby and having made a general pattern on them, you can make a nice table decor in the form of a stone “puzzle”.
