Bedroom for a teenager

Table by the window

Adolescence is considered the most difficult stage in the process of becoming an individual. Yesterday’s child begins to search for himself, sometimes to challenge parental authority and re-evaluate values. Communication with your peers comes to the fore. It is in society that a teenager tries to establish himself as a person and to form the self-consciousness of an already adult person. The most complex manifestation of adolescence is youthful maximalism. The child stops making compromises, divides the world only into black and white without half tones, becomes straightforward and rushes to conclusions. Parents often become his "personal enemies" due to the clash of generations, the so-called conflict of fathers and children. The atmosphere of the house is heating up, the feeling of comfort is lost. It is imperative that the child’s room becomes “his castle”, where he will feel at ease. The design of the bedroom for a teenager should not only organically be combined with the design of other rooms of the apartment or house, but also should be liked by the occupant of this room.

Features of the layout of the room for a teenager

The change of children's environment to teenage should take place when the child is 13-14 years old. Although modern generations mature earlier, the period of maximalism for some begins already at 11-12 years. The child’s bedroom should not be solid or boring. Before changing something, parents should pay attention to what their child is fond of. In his room, a teenager should have the opportunity for self-expression, which he will carry out in any case, if not at home, so on the street. If parents do not want their child to constantly disappear in "bad companies", they must reckon with his tastes, forgetting about their preferences. If you design a room solely of your own free will, then this will be acutely perceived by the teenager as a reason for protest. Psychologists recommend in this case to consult with a small tenant in everything, give him the opportunity to independently choose the stylistic direction of the interior, the furniture set, and add his favorite colors to the palette of colors.

Open shelves

To make the girl feel involved in the design process, you can offer to sew curtains or pillowcases for pillows, a blanket in the style of a patchwork. It will be interesting for a teenage boy to make his own rack or chairs with his own hands. Direct participation in the decorating process will help the child to get comfortable in his new room and strengthen the trust between him and his parents. You can not impose your opinion, no matter how correct it may be, when choosing a finish or lighting features. If a teenager insists on a tasteless decision, he needs to be supported in this. Let him be convinced in practice of the incorrectness of his judgments and draw conclusions that parental support will always accompany him.

Room Zoning

In a teenage room, the number of functional areas is preserved from the nursery. Indoors must be present:

  • Workplace for study.
  • Playground for games and entertainment.
  • Corner for creativity and hobby.
  • A sleeping place, which can be combined with a platform for passive relaxation.

If the dimensions of the room, for example, in Khrushchev leave much to be desired, then some zones with similar functionality will have to be compactly combined into one. Zoning in such a case is carried out only conditional or conditional factual. You can divide the area with curtains, mobile screens, frosted glass sliding doors. Also, zoning is carried out conditionally with the help of light, color combinations, combinations of various textures of finishing materials, paired decor elements. In spacious rooms, when the bedroom for the child is located in a private house and occupies, for example, the entire attic, it is better to use furniture, false walls, arched vaults or static partitions.

Stylistic direction

Do not be mistaken that only modern, progressive styles are suitable for adolescents. Any direction can be adapted to the taste preferences of the little tenant of the room. Among the most successful options, designers note:

  • Loft. The direction will be appreciated by young men. The interior, made in the loft style, has a touch of chic. The rooms use a sophisticated lighting system in which decorative light is given special attention. The furnishings combine old elements with cutting-edge details. High ceilings are decorated with communication systems.Brickwork on an accent wall emphasizes the modernity of style. Brown, black, white and gray prevail in shades. Although the loft is a respectable style, it will appeal to young rebels.

  • Classic style. It is more suitable for girls. To emphasize the charm of the interior, colors are used in white and shades of pink, thereby moving away from the canonical brown, which the child may find too boring. The furniture is made of wood, and expensive fabrics with luxurious patterns prevail in textiles.

  • High tech. A universal style that will appeal to both girls and boys. The abundance of white and gray will make the room brighter and more spacious. Chromed surfaces and glass accentuate the “cold" grace of techno-style.

  • Minimalism. Only light shades are used in the decoration, and in the colors of furniture and decor - discreet, contrasting tones. The style is ideal for small rooms, as it visually increases them by a couple of meters and creates the illusion of freedom. Adolescents will like the direction in that time for cleaning a room with a small amount of furniture and things will be minimized.

  • Provence. A soft, warm, elegant direction is suitable for girls. In Provence, pastel shades, wood, and aged furniture elements are used. In decoration, wallpaper is used in a small flower, which are in harmony with lace and lace.

  • Scandinavian style. The main concept of direction is spatial freedom and an abundance of light. The harsh northern climate is reflected in the interior: a “snowy” finish in white is combined with rare green needles and blue shades of ice.

  • American style. Although the direction is much like a classic, its concept is more democratic. Solid color furniture upholstery is combined with colorful textile decor, decorated with geometric patterns. The floor is finished with wood, and the walls with conservative plaster. As a decor, groups of paintings on the walls, classic lamps, mirrors, pillows in a berth can act. The American style is characterized by the combination of several zones in one room, so in a teenage bedroom it will look appropriate and organic.

  • Vanguard. The direction is considered a symbol of youth and rebellious spirit. For the avant-garde is characterized by the use of unconventional finishing materials (mainly plastic), which can significantly save. In a bright interior, the emphasis is on geometry. Triangles, circles, squares are present in the forms of armchairs, coffee tables, decor, textiles and photo wallpaper. A stylish addition to the interior will be groups of lamps of extraordinary shapes, bright posters, two-tone contrasting curtains.

It also combines well with teenage rooms marine style and eco direction. In the second case, parents can unobtrusively teach the child to appreciate nature and take care of his health, surrounded exclusively by natural materials.

Color spectrum

In the color palette, choose the golden mean. The basis is better to use neutral, calm shades: white, gray, peach, blue, yellow. The choice of accent tones can be entrusted to a teenager. Their roles may be green, purple, blue, lilac, coral, red, cherry, mint, mustard. Teenagers love brightness. Conservative parents may not always understand such taste preferences, but the choice of the combination concept remains with them. The best option is a trio of a combination of a light background, similar in spirit to the shade and bright, contrasting tones in the decor.

Materials and methods of decoration

In wall decoration, it is better to give preference to the traditional option - wallpaper. The hue and nature of the drawing is discussed together with the child.

If a conflict of tastes is brewing, then the parents can choose the main coating, and leave the teenager to design the accent wall with photo wallpapers with the original image.

Wardrobe near the tableThe ceiling can be made of plasterboard or stretch, it will suit any stylistic direction. In the first case, such a design move will create a complex lighting system. It is not recommended to use a frame structure sheathed with drywall in rooms with low ceilings. The flooring is chosen in accordance with the stylistic decision. For provence, classic, avant-garde, parquet is suitable. Scandinavian, American, and modern styles use laminate flooring. If a teenager is fond of sports or is too active, then you can cover the floor with carpet, which will soften the blows and help to avoid conflicts with neighbors from below.

Furniture selection

For small rooms, the furniture set must be chosen based on ergonomics and multifunctionality. Standard elements for a teenage bedroom will be a bed, wardrobe, armchair or chair and a desk. The size of the storage system will depend on the wealth of the child’s wardrobe. If there are a lot of things, then it is better to buy a built-in wardrobe, made to order. Its design will save space, but at the same time it will give the opportunity to equip a real dressing room in the room. A workplace can be combined with a sleeping one if you purchase a special kit. In it, the bed is located on the second tier, and a table with a chair is placed under it. The original option will be paired racks with books and textbooks installed on both sides of the bed.Wardrobe over the bed

Decor and Textile

The decoration of the teenage bedroom includes the selection of plafonds for lighting, chandeliers, curtains, pillows, carpets and paintings, photographs. In order to take care of the child’s health, natural textiles should be chosen: cotton, linen, silk, chintz. Synthetics will quickly become unusable. If a teenager is fond of music, then guitars or a drum kit can also become part of the decor. Young scientists will appreciate the large slate. By the way, it can be placed on an accent wall at the head of the bed. A geographic map of the world will help in learning and will become a unique decoration of the room.If a teenager is fond of classical literature, then the wall is decorated with its old version with “charred” edges and scuffs. Future entomologists will like the option of placing dried insects in frames on the wall of their collection. Decor can be neatly combined with a child’s hobby, which will only stimulate him to new discoveries in his favorite pastime.

Bedroom for teenager boy

Boys always have specific hobbies. The most popular include:

  • Warfare.
  • Sports activities.
  • Computer games.
  • "Male" sciences (physics, chemistry).
  • Ship business.
  • Cinema and music.

Computer desk and wardrobe
For a good rest, the young man needs to allocate a separate zone where he can calmly do what he loves. If parents will listen to the interests of the child, help in the implementation of the tasks, then the difficult period of growing up will not proceed so violently.

Bedroom for a teenage girl

For a girl, you need to create a luxurious wardrobe. A set of dresses, trousers, blouses and skirts is best placed in the dressing room. The young fashionista will like a separate room intended only for clothes. Among the standard hobbies for girls note:

  • Needlework (embroidery, knitting, sewing).
  • Cooking
  • Music and cinema.
  • Design.
  • Drawing or sculpture.
  • Soap making, candle making.
  • Making dolls.
  • Sport (yoga, fitness, Pilates).

The teenage room of the girl should have a separate corner for this hobby. For small rooms, a compact workshop hidden in a false cabinet will be the salvation.

Chest of drawers with a mirror

Do not forget about the dressing table or a small chest of drawers with a mirror and a chair, as any girl (even the smallest) always takes care of her appearance.

Bedroom for two teens

If paired sets of beds and workplaces are placed in the children's room, then in the room where two teenagers live, the principle of identity no longer works. Each child should have a personal space where he will engage in his hobbies. If the room is small, then the sleeping place is designed in the form of a bunk bed, and two workplaces are combined into one long table. The cabinet can be conditionally divided by a partition between the shelves. If a girl and a boy live in a room, then she will have to be zoned. The best option would be a frosted glass wall, cupboard or bookcase. To preserve the unity of composition, each zone is designed thematically, but within the same style.

Conclusion

Properly designed teenage room design can make a big contribution to the relationship between the child and parents. If you listen to the opinion of the child and allow him to make his own choices, he will feel that his interests and tastes are respected and are already treated as an adult. If a teenager is cozy and comfortable at home, then the period of becoming a person will go more smoothly. He will not seek adventure on the street or in dubious companies when his own world awaits in his room, where he can calmly engage in hobbies, study or just relax with friends who are not ashamed to bring to visit.
