Geometry in the interior

The perception of an unfamiliar room is influenced by style, design, colors. But that is not all! In fact, geometry has a much greater influence. It is this factor that is decisive in the first "acquaintance" with the interior. It depends on him whether he wants to stay in a particular room or, on the contrary, leave it as soon as possible. The influence of geometry on the human psyche is proved in the course of scientific research. Therefore, this factor should be taken into account when designing apartments and when developing landscape design.

Features and psychology of perception

The impression that geometry has on us in interior design is a signal of the degree of comfort in this space. The introduction of geometric shapes can unrecognizably change the appearance of the room, improve or worsen its perception. Simple forms are perceived much easier than complex ones. In addition, they are better remembered. When perceiving a circle, square, rectangle, triangle, the distribution of attention occurs in different ways.
Even in antiquity, it was noticed that geometric shapes affect the emotional sphere of a person. A square - is associated with organization and competence, a circle - represents goodwill, generosity, a triangle indicates leadership qualities, pragmatism, determination.

What styles are applied

Interiors with geometric elements are again in trend. They are experiencing another peak of their popularity. Spectacular circles, zigzags, triangles, honeycombs again occupy an honorable place in the design of the premises. They fill the space with simplicity, elegance and at the same time give it dynamics and rhythm.
Similar techniques are mainly used in modern styles. Most often they are brought to high-tech, pop art, loft, minimalism, scandy, eco. Here geometry is present in decoration, in furniture and decor, in lighting. Traditional and ethnic styles also do not go unnoticed. Geometric figures “sound” in such interiors with modern notes that allow you to see the space in a new way.

Minimalism Geometry

Geometric furniture

Many designers are fans of simple and concise forms. Therefore, they are happy to invent new furniture patterns in the form of geometric shapes. Straight lines, rhombuses and triangles are embodied in fancy chairs, elegant tables and unusual chairs. Such furniture is an active accent in the room. Clear edges and unusual shapes will delight owners and surprise guests. In order for the furniture not to merge with the wall and look even more spectacular, it needs a neutral background. The geometric pattern on the upholstery can completely change the design. The best basis for it will be upholstered furniture of simple shapes. A calm monophonic finish and a minimum of decor and accessories will help him even more clearly. The expressiveness of furniture depends on its color and materials. A black shelf and a red chair made of triangles will always look more expressive and graphic than beige or lilac counterparts. And the upholstery of a futuristic sofa made of geometric motifs will lose its dynamism, being made of textile. The advantage of this furniture is its versatility - it will suit any style.

Geometry in the elements of decor

Bored of the monotony and monotony of the interior? In a blink of an eye, geometrical accessories will turn a boring room into a stylish and modern space. Decor can be a great way out of the situation when there is no way to make a full repair. Fill the room with fancy vases, polygonal flower pots, candlesticks, mirrors from connected hexagons, garlands and pendant modules in the form of crystals, paintings and clocks in sharply defined frames. They will make the room creative and original.

Accessories should be placed in the compositional center of the room. There may be several such "islands" in a spacious room, in a small one - no more than one. You need to pick up items so that they can "make friends" with each other. Ideally, if they are made in one key and differ only in shape and size.

Geometry and Lighting

Lamps in a geometric style cannot be confused with other representatives of lighting design. They are distinguished by rigor and conciseness, as well as the simplicity of lines and shapes. The variety of options presented is amazing.Geometric shades can be made of metal, plastic, wood, glass, paper. They are presented in the form of open "crystals" of metal rods or closed structures. For the first, it is necessary to provide lighting devices that do not have a negative effect on vision. Best of all, LED elements will cope with this task. The variety of multifaceted designs is amazing. Chandeliers, floor lamps, spots are shaped like a cube, cylinder, prism, tetrahedron, sphere, cone, pyramid. Such decorative elements give truly unlimited possibilities for design. Incredibly attractive ceiling with delicate edges. The light breaking through the holes draws elegant lace patterns on the walls and ceiling. They fill the room with mystery and magic.

Geometry on the floor, walls and even the ceiling

Create geometric accents with trim. In addition to the fact that these design elements make the interior bright and creative, they also help to adjust the space. To enter figures into the room you can:

  • draw - for this they use paint or liquid wallpaper of contrasting or similar colors with different saturations;
  • to stick on - non-woven, paper, fabric wallpapers or ceramic tiles with geometric patterns, mosaics are suitable.

You can decorate the walls and ceiling with geometric shapes using moldings. This technique is widely used in classics or provence. For modern interiors, wallpapers with triangles, hexagons, parallelepipeds, 3D panels with protruding vertices of the pyramids are suitable. It is not necessary to seal all walls with active prints - it is enough to draw separate sections with them. Thus, you can emphasize a special area - accent wall or the space above the sofa. You can distinguish a room by breaking it into zones.
On a high ceiling, volumetric geometric figures made of drywall look spectacular. They slightly lower the surface and turn the room into a fantastic room. Flat suspended objects are also appropriate, as well as the allocation of individual sections with stretch sheets and mirrors.
On the floor you can use a chess layout of tiles. Most often choose contrasting combinations - black with white or red, blue with yellow or white, red with green or blue. The geometric pattern on the tiles will support similarly shaped furniture, fixtures and accessories.

Stripes

A simple and elegant pattern that adds expressiveness to the room and helps to correct its flaws. Wide stripes of contrasting colors look solemn and elegant. You can mitigate the effect of the ceremonial atmosphere by replacing the clearly defined lines with a pattern with blurry edges. A thin strip is not so striking, and therefore harmoniously combined with other ornaments. By arranging the stripes horizontally, you can make the wall visually wider and visually lower the ceilings. This technique helps to approximate the shape of the room to a square. Vertical stripes will distract attention from unevenness and curvature of the surfaces, as well as give the room additional space by raising the ceiling. The pattern can be applied to the wall with your own hands. For this, masking tape or electrical tape is useful. Such a solution is especially relevant for a small hallway, the area of which is required to be increased.

Squares

Squares are not allowed to change the space, but they can make it more calm and balanced. A square is the main symbol of stability and order. It fills the inhabitants of housing with confidence in their own well-being. Square panels, frames, lamps, carpet on the floor will give a sense of peace and make the interior complete. Especially attractive is the square embedded in the checkered pattern. Textiles in the kitchen, sofa upholstery in the study or children's room create a cozy home atmosphere.Checkered tablecloths and napkins are conducive to long intimate conversations.

Zigzags

Zigzags are broken stripes. They have the same abilities as their straightforward ornament. But in curved stripes they are many times higher. The zigzag is endowed with enhanced room correction capabilities. If even vertical stripes visually raise the ceilings by 15 cm, then their wave-like “relatives” are able to “drop” the line of the junction of the wall and ceiling by 40 cm! The same will be the effectiveness of horizontal options. Therefore, curved lines should be introduced into the interior very carefully and metered. They will be appropriate in the form of several light stripes - horizontal or tending to the ceiling, or a carpet with contrasting elements.

Multi-color images of zigzags will help get rid of the “taunting” of the pattern on the walls. The same advice can be given regarding the design of the floor and ceiling. Carefully and elegantly expand or lengthen the room will help lines with obscure edges, made in close shades.

Circles and ovals

Harmony and completeness - this is what round and oval shapes bring to the interior. Their outlines soften the aggressiveness of angular details, create a relaxed, free atmosphere. The circle is the most positive figure, devoid of prickly corners and faces. Round furnishings fit into any room. An oval or round tabletop holds much more people than a rectangular or square one. In the interior, circles can be identified with the help of accessories, furniture and decoration. Rounded furnishings - beds, sofas, chests of drawers will make the room soft and calm. Round or oval frames for photographs, pictures and mirrors, watches, shades, suspended ceiling and carpet will support the basic idea of design. The main thing here is to observe a sense of proportion. It doesn’t cost to oversaturated a room with round objects. It is better to combine them with square pieces of furniture and neutral backgrounds. For example, in a room where the walls are decorated with round frames, it is worth choosing plain textiles, because a print with circles on curtains and pillows will be overkill. On a round carpet it is better to install a rectangular coffee table. So, with the help of one figure, one can compensate for the “sugaryness” of others.

Rectangles

Rectangular shapes look elegant and simple in the interior. They blend well with square shapes and circles. For such compositions, calm color combinations should be selected. Excessive variegation can tire your eyesight and even cause dizziness. It is best to complement bright shades with neutral ones or use different variants of the same color. Contrast combinations are acceptable in children's rooms or in living rooms, which are decided in bold trends of pop art style. In classic interiors, pastel patterns create a sense of stability and poise. Large rectangular elements fill the room with calm and measured. Small multicolor ornaments, on the contrary, make the interior dynamic, set a certain rhythm. Most often we find rectangles and squares in the floor coverings - tile, laminate, porcelain stoneware, parquet board. They help create a solid foundation for the rest of the design components.

Honeycombs or Octagons

Interior elements can be nontrivial and interesting. The use of octagons, hexagons, which are also called “honeycombs”, will help diversify the design, make it unusual and unique. This is a kind of reference to the octagonal feng shui, which teaches to equip your home in such a way as to create conditions for a happy and healthy life. Octagonal elements are often used to create oriental interiors. Here, the entire space is built around an octagonal table or aquarium. As additional touches are the cabinets, chairs, whatnots of the same form.Combine space dial-shaped mirrors resembling crystals. Octagons appear in the decoration - most often in the form of wall or floor tiles, wallpaper. Or you can simply draw the shapes using a stencil and color them in adjacent or contrasting colors. Such work will not take much time, but will help to effectively arrange the room. Octagonal tile collections include plain items and fragments with illustrations. Such materials are ideal for laying a kitchen apron.

Geometry Zoning

The superpowers of geometry are not limited to a set of tools for changing space. This is an ideal tool for competent zoning. Functional zones are distinguished using accent finishes in the form of strips, triangles, circles, honeycombs. The space is completely filled with geometric figures or determines the role of the edging, and in the interval they place photowall-paper or fractal posters. In the living room, they decorate the space above the sofa, behind the TV or in such a way allocate a short wall next to the dining group. You can draw a border between zones using a line on the floor, using a laminate or tile in a contrasting color. A popular technique for designating zones is placing a rectangle of darker tiles under the dining group or in the center of the workspace inside the U-shaped headset.

Conclusion

Geometry is an important component of any interior, which affects the psychological state of a person. Therefore, you need to choose certain prints and how to place them with extreme caution.
