High-tech living room: design options

Hi-tech in the interior

The increased popularity of the high-tech symbolizes the victory of laconicism and simplicity in the interiors over complex compositions and ostentatious luxury. The style, which became an independent direction, separated from constructivism, turned into a kind of bridge to the future, a link between the trends of the last century and the fundamentally new concepts of futurism. Now this trend in popularity can argue except with the loft. The same modern and extraordinary design. To create a high-tech style living room design, you need to familiarize yourself with the main features of the area, correctly select finishing materials, furniture and meager decor.

High Tech: Key Features and Characteristics

The history of high-tech began in architecture in the 70s of the last century, and then gradually turned into design. The direction, in contrast to the line of classical styles, began to consider technology a subject of decor and harmoniously fit the blessings of the century of digital technology into the setting. Hi-tech is closely associated with loft and minimalism. All three styles have certain similarities, which is not surprising, because the concepts of trends meet the requirements of modern man. Hi-tech is more suitable for decorating luxury private homes.

In small standard apartments, it’s quite difficult to reflect the main features of the style, although the color scheme will expand the boundaries of the premises, and modern materials will immediately increase the status of the home. For hi-tech, the following design rules are characteristic:

  • The color scheme is dominated by a combination of white, black and gray. It is allowed to introduce shades of brown into the interior, but in small quantities, and accent tones (purple, yellow, blue, green, red).
  • Initially, there was no room for decor in the hi-tech concept. These details were cut off as unnecessary. The decor only decorated the room, but did not perform any practical functions. However, the rooms, deprived of cute trinkets, looked too uncomfortable and "cold." Therefore, the atmosphere nevertheless began to add a minimum of decorative elements, which are successfully combined with technology that plays the role of accents.
  • The interiors use modern expensive materials. Glossy surfaces are welcome. The presence of metal and glass is considered mandatory.
  • The furniture used is not too massive, but angular. Only simple geometry in the best traditions of minimalism. The furniture in the room is poor, as the style gravitates to free spaces. Often suspended models are added to the composition.

Blue ceiling lights

High-tech rooms are flooded with artificial light that plays with highlights on the gloss of furniture surfaces and decoration materials.

It is worth noting that high-tech brings to the fore the texture and form, and leaves the colors as a background. This style allows you to equip a modern, not devoid of comfort housing, which conservatives and adherents of traditions can consider "lifeless."

Although free spaces are characteristic of high-tech, the idea of combined rooms in style is often embodied. Combined rooms are easily zoned by combining colors, textures and conditional borders from lighting fixtures.

Materials and methods of decoration

For finishing, modern materials are chosen. The room should prevail glass, metal (aluminum, steel, chrome) and plastic. It is acceptable to use imitation, although it is not customary to save on high-tech. For example, wallpapers are chosen metallized, which resemble the surface of steel, decorated with a light, unobtrusive ornament. The ceiling and floor, as a rule, have glossy surfaces with a slight mirror effect. For decorating hi-tech living quarters quite often use materials that are used to equip offices. This nuance should be taken into account in order not to fill the room with a “state atmosphere”.

Floor

To decorate the floor, choose parquet, laminate, ceramic or vinyl tiles, and much less often - stone. The latter option is more suitable for a bathroom or kitchen. The bulk floor, which in the fortress can argue with concrete, is also popular. The main thing is that the flooring is monophonic, without patterns. Of the flowers, preference is given to shades of brown (wood) or an uncompromising trinity: white, black, gray. The main furniture group - a sofa and a table - can be placed on the podium. A backlight is built into its threshold.

Walls

The walls in the hi-tech style living room are covered with textured or smooth plaster, matte paint, wallpaper, sheathed with acrylic or PVC panels. This direction is characterized by a combination of different colors and textures. One accent wall is surely allocated in the room, which is pasted with photo wallpaper, painted, decorated with decor in the form of panels, paintings, unusual compositions. By the way, the latter include “balls of mercury”. This element is often used in futurism, but it is also suitable for high-tech. The decor consists of a group of streamlined steel balls. They are fixed on walls, ceilings (as an addition to light sources). Some designers go further and decorate the entire accent area with 3D wallpapers that simulate a lot of balls, like in a foam hat. Such a move allows you to soften the angularity of the furniture and the overall severity of the situation. In the living room, the accent wall, as a rule, becomes the one on which the TV or home theater is located, which is more suited to the high-tech style.

Ceiling

Among modern finishing materials, stretch or false ceilings, plasterboard frames are chosen. Using the latter, you can create a complex structure with several levels, and in the decorative "steps" it is easy to equip niches for spotlights. Stretch ceilings are chosen with both a glossy and a matte surface. It is acceptable to use canvases with a simple geometric pattern. However, the image is quite difficult to choose, because it should not distract from the rest of the situation. The “complex” ceiling will look original, where the surface of the suspended part is white, matte, but the base is decorated with dark wood or metal.

Color palette

Hi-tech is based on the “three pillars” of color: gray, black, white. Brown is added to them, which is peculiar to wooden surfaces. Beige, cream, ocher, hazelnut, dark chocolate, and sepia are selected from its shade gradation. Nevertheless, notes of naturalness help make the composition complete and breathe life into it.If it is necessary to add a new tone in large quantities to the color palette, then its faded version is chosen. For example, pale yellow, which borders on light brown, can be used in the color scheme for wall decoration. Be sure to include bright strokes of accents in the composition. They are made of contrasting colors and instantly attract attention. Such vivid details should not be grouped. They are scattered around the perimeter of the room so as not to upset the color balance.

Accent can be:

  • Burgundy.
  • Blue.
  • Turquoise.
  • Yellow.
  • Green.
  • Orange.
  • Red.
  • Purple.
  • Lilac.

Quite often, “acidic” variations of green, yellow and orange are chosen for the role of accent tones. The same colors may be present in the backlight.

Equipment and furniture

Traditional living rooms often have fireplaces. This element is considered a classic detail, without which not a single hall could do without in the past. In small apartments, the bulky fireplace is replaced by a modern, compact bio-model. Built-in options will look stylish, where the unit itself is made of metal, and the protective door is made of tempered glass. Ergonomic, laconic furniture is chosen for the living room. A rectangular or semicircular sofa, a low coffee table, a pair of creative armchairs or a couch, a vis-a-vis, a party are enough. Upholstery choose leather. Expensive material will emphasize the elegance of a modern setting.

The TV is mounted directly on the wall. If you need to arrange places for storing things, then ordinary shelves with high-tech do not fit. Choose simple cabinets of rectangular and square shapes with glossy facades that hang in a chaotic manner on the walls. Below the composition is complemented by a low, elongated cabinet. If you need to place a library in the room, then the choice of places for storing books should also be approached creatively. For high-tech, hinged shelves made of glass or metal, which are enclosed in a round box, hung in the form of steps leading to the ceiling, are assembled into a complex "pixel" picture.

Lighting

Lighting is an important part of high-tech furnishings. On the ceiling and above the furniture around the room, hidden niches are equipped for recessed spotlights and halogen lamps. The traditional ceiling chandelier, which is located strictly in the center of the room, will have to be abandoned. High tech welcomes unusual, creative design options. Track or string systems are placed on the ceiling, which additionally help simulate the space. Also, the living room is decorated with metal soffits, into which powerful lamps are built. It is not recommended to use an abundance of soft light. Only combining diffused flow with directional flow is allowed. Thus, every corner of the room will be lit, and the local area is equipped with a working light.

High tech is cold, so the lighting should be consistent. Before you light the room over the entire area with bulbs and lamps, you should take into account the arrangement of furniture and the effect of reflective surfaces, of which there will be many in the living room. Professional designers recommend drawing a plan on paper to make it easier to navigate.

For high-tech, they choose lamps, chandeliers, sconces according to two principles: simplicity and originality of configuration. Such devices easily pour into the loft, minimalism and futurism.

Accessories and decor

The decor in the living room use a minimum. On the wall you can hang a modular picture or a group of panels, futuristic bas-reliefs, "flowing" watches, as on the canvases of Salvador Dali. By the way, surreal and abstract details not only complement the interior, but also show guests that the owners of the house appreciate high art. The sofa is decorated with a number of pillows. Solid alternate with accent.A stylish lamp on a high, curved leg is placed directly above the sofa or couch to make reading convenient. In hi-tech, you can add notes of eco-style, you get a slightly eclectic interior. For example, a “tree” of glass or plastic in a tub on the floor or long rectangular containers instead of ordinary pots with oat sprouts will replace indoor plants, but at the same time they will revive the situation.

Unlike the loft, in high-tech communications disguise behind boxes with a metallized surface. Windows are closed with plain curtains to the floor. Near the sofa under the coffee table there is a square rug with a short pile (also without drawings).

One of the original design ideas is the "Russian" element in high-tech - the trunks of real birches. They "grow" from a narrow, long niche against the wall behind the sofa. “Birch” rests against the ceiling, where spotlights are located in a starry bulk.

Conclusion

Hi-tech is not as stingy with emotions as it may seem to many. Decorations are present in the setting, but due to the small number they are chosen more carefully and carefully. This style has incorporated the fashion trends of the new century of high technology, because of which the interiors have become comfortable specifically for the modern generation. People of the "old school" may consider such decoration deprived of life and comfort. And for those who run to the beat with an insane rhythm of life, large spaces, light artificial light and relaxing colors will be a long-awaited breath of freedom and relaxation.
