Dressing room design

Walk-in closet

Everyone decides which rooms are needed first. Someone removes the hallway and wardrobe, while others, on the contrary, create technical rooms for storing clothes where they are not originally available. If there are a lot of personal things, then it is better to collect them in one place where you can engage in fitting and organizing. The amount of clothing will only increase over time, and in order not to have to throw away part of your belongings, you will need to find a large space in which everything will fit with a margin. In new buildings, almost all apartments have changing rooms, and some even have built-in furniture elements. Wardrobe is not out of place in a large four-room apartment, and in a cramped “odnushka”. This is a good place to implement design ideas. A wide locker room with strict furniture and rich lighting will look stylish, modern and expensive.

Advantages and disadvantages of the dressing room

Any layout has pros and cons. Modern people value comfort above all, so the presence of a dressing room in the layout of the apartment will be helpful. If you move all things in one room - a lot of space will be freed up for other purposes. There will be an opportunity to save on the purchase of cabinets. In the wardrobe, it is easier to sort and place the clothes so that they do not crinkle and smell good. In the room there is a place for various wardrobe systems. Another plus is that the door can be locked. The main disadvantage of wardrobe rooms is the inability to use this space for other rooms. Another minus - the things of all tenants will be in one together, sometimes mixed up. They will not be able to collect at the same time. Many people prefer that all things be at hand, so they don’t need a wardrobe room.

Among other advantages, it is worth highlighting:

  • universality;
  • the ability to take into account individual characteristics and wishes;
  • design flexibility.

Basic requirements for dressing rooms

The room should be dry. It is advisable that the room is bordered by a bedroom or a corridor. If there is no dressing room in the apartment, but there is a desire to make it, then you need to choose a site without windows. An exception can be made if the room is large. Several powerful artificial light sources are installed in the room. There is controversy over material for furniture elements.Some advises wood, others - synthetics. It is important that the clothes do not absorb odors, and the materials are environmentally friendly. The minimum required area for this room is 2 square meters. m. Dimensions of sections are selected in accordance with the length and width of outerwear. Shelves for shoes are made with a slope of 45 °. It is recommended to install at least two mirrors. The wardrobe contains equipment necessary for the care of clothing.

Area and location

It is desirable that the area is at least 2 square meters. In this case, it will be convenient for two people to simultaneously be located and move around the dressing room. In modern apartments, a wardrobe stands out from 3 square meters. m. And if the housing is large or has additional amenities - 4 square meters. m and more. The locker room can border the hallway or move smoothly into it. The best place to place a dressing room is considered a bedroom.

Filling example

However, if it is necessary to make a large area under the wardrobe, then the living room is chosen as the place of its placement. Dressing rooms look the most spectacular. These are premises in which all clothes and shoes are placed, as well as personal items and a work desk with all the necessary equipment. When replanning, the hallway is usually cleaned, and a dressing room appears in its place.

Zoning

Wardrobe rooms, which are part of a single space of a studio apartment, may not be isolated at all or separated by small glass or wooden partitions. Sometimes the locker room is isolated with curtains. Inside, the room is divided into upper, middle and lower parts. The lower zone is reserved for shoes. Shoes are placed on the floor and some shelves, above - various accessories (belts, bags, etc.). The height of the lower part ranges from 70-90 cm. The next zone ends at 1.8 m from the floor. There should be barbells with suits, outerwear and dresses.Sections with a depth of less than 0.5 m are not suitable for large wardrobes. In the upper part there are two subzones: the lower one, where things (hats, towels) are at the level of a raised hand and the upper one, in which boxes with shoes, pillows and suitcases are placed.

Ventilation

Arrangement of artificial ventilation must be dealt with at the design stage. A hood duct is connected to the dressing room. You will need to install a fan on its inlet and wall valves to control the flow of air. If this was not provided, then you will need a wall-mounted ionizer. In the wall that borders the street, you can make a hole for the airgiver. Natural ventilation can be arranged in any room - with or without a window. Fresh air will enter through microscopic slots in the window opening and will start to move upward when already heated. Airtight structures use window ventilators.

Ventilated room

A windowless wardrobe provides for a large gap between the door and the floor, and ideally also under the ceiling. This opening is also useful for bringing the exhaust pipe or for air intake by a fan.

Lighting

There is no window in the small locker rooms. But in large dressing rooms, its presence is a necessity, otherwise you will have to use a large number of lighting devices. Direct sunlight can spoil clothes, so blinds, roller blinds and sun-protection films are installed in locker rooms with a window. LED lamps are mounted in windowless wardrobes: on the ceiling, walls, upper and lower surfaces of shelves, in the corners of modular structures. The furniture itself may have built-in lights. In a couple they are placed on the wall.

Spotlights are used to evenly disperse light. The floor mirror can improve the lighting. A floor lamp is placed near it.In order to get more diffused light into the dressing room, you can remove part of the wall and make a transparent partition.

Recommended decoration materials

The walls are finished with plastic or wooden panels. The advantages of the former are accessibility, ease of installation, a large number of variations in color, texture and shape, ease of care. Wood panels are durable, practical, attractive in appearance, environmentally friendly. The flooring must be warm, as you have to walk barefoot on it. The tile does not fit, instead the floor is faced with a parquet board, linoleum or laminate (33 classes and above). If the dressing room is in the attic in a private house, then PVC panels for an inclined surface are suitable. If the locker room is large and high, then you can use drywall in the decoration. At the same time, in any wardrobe, a single-level ceiling covering made of plasterboard sheets with bulbs with spots around the entire perimeter or around the modules looks good.

Wooden panels

For finishing vertical surfaces, the following materials are also used:

  • eco leather;
  • PVC film
  • ceramic tile;
  • cullets;
  • MDF;
  • water-based paint.

Layout Options

Recently, apartments have created large areas for auxiliary technical premises. Designers come up with new and unusual solutions to improve ergonomics and aesthetics. The main types of layout are angular, U-shaped and linear. Depending on the drawing of the dressing room, options are implemented for storing various equipment, household items and systems for placing clothes and shoes. It will be possible to store tools for work, dishes and other containers, sports equipment in the wardrobe.

The geometric solution is becoming popular, in which the racks are placed parallel to the walls and then connected in the corner of the room (L-shaped layout).From the open room you can organize a five-wall wardrobe, using, in addition to two walls, three additional partitions.

Linear layout

It is made in the form of a cabinet along the long vertical surface of the hall, bedroom, children's room or large oblong hallway. Inside such a wall, you need to correctly distribute personal items. If you devote a lot of time to this process, you will be able to hide almost all the clothes and household items. Do not collect too long wardrobe modules. This will interfere with experimenting with the situation, complicate the search for new objects, as it will be more difficult to remember exactly where they were placed. It will take a lot of time to select and search for clothes. However, it will save on cleaning inside the wardrobe - it will become easier to carry it out.

Linear layout

With a linear layout, both open and closed design look equally good with a wardrobe and sliding systems. The linear design is simple, so it is recommended to make it as versatile as possible.

Parallel layout

An interesting option for drawing a dressing room is a parallel layout (racks are located opposite each other). This configuration is appropriate for walk-through areas that connect the bedroom to the living room, bathroom or toilet. The minimum permissible distance between the elements of the dressing room furniture is 80 cm, and the width of the whole passage is 160 cm. If the corridor in the apartment is wide and long, then it is worth converting it into a wardrobe. For a one-room apartment, this solution has no alternative. Residents will be able to distribute their clothes on different sides or thus separate men's and women's clothing. Things will always be in a conspicuous place. Such a layout will allow you to hide wall defects, use large sets of wardrobe furniture. A parallel wardrobe will help residents gather faster; to be more organized.

U-shaped layout

A similar plan of the wardrobe room is one of the most successful solutions in the interior. The shape of such a room is usually rectangular. Elements of this wardrobe system are made in the form of the letter "P", that is, they occupy three sides, the same or different in length. To increase the level of convenience and comfort in the apartment, an area along the end wall should be allocated for the locker room. There may not be enough space for a floor mirror, however, wall mirrors can easily fit between parts of a wardrobe structure. In such a room quickly find the right things. This type of wardrobe is practical; Looks advantageous against the rest. U-shaped structures require a considerable amount of space, for small apartments this can be a problem. If the dwelling has a complex geometric structure, then it is better to make small U-shaped wardrobes.

A wardrobe of this type can divide the space into male and female zones.

Corner layout

The wardrobe may be in the corner of the room or functional area. For compact apartments, this is the most profitable option. The corner locker room is equipped mainly in the bedrooms. If the area of the bedroom is approximately 20 square meters. m, it will be enough 4 square meters. m under the technical zone to accommodate all clothing, shoes, accessories and various devices, as well as a bulky wardrobe module. It is necessary that with all this design, including racks and a cabinet, the front door should look harmonious. Materials must be combined. One of the subspecies of the angular layout is trapezoidal. For its arrangement, you will need to install drywall niches. The trapezoidal layout provides for the location of the cabinet or modular design along one wall. So equip children's rooms and play areas. A triangular wardrobe design in the middle of one of the rooms can serve as an independent zone.

Style and color scheme

The classics will look solid and expensive. Fanciful forms combined with rich lighting will accentuate. Strict modern style is suitable for everyone - from youth to the elderly. Modern materials and a wide palette of colors are used. The Provence style provides for the use of warm pastel colors. Creative people, as well as those who prefer peace and comfort, will be pleased with this design. The loft style is functional, and at the same time a design decision. This is an "industrial trend" in glamor. Wardrobe in this style should consist of metal shelves and racks. Boiserie-style locker rooms are made up of panels attached to the walls. The remaining parts are fixed on them (only horizontally).

Arrangement of storage systems and necessary furniture

No modern dressing room is complete without shoe shelves. The shelves themselves are selected in accordance with the main parameters. The width of the top should be greater than the bottom. For the upper shelves of the wardrobe, 45–65 cm is enough, the lower ones are 30–40 cm. Their thickness varies depending on the material and style of execution. To fully equip the locker rooms you will need: various hangers, including pull-outs, shoe modules, special sections, belt hangers, tie accessories. It is important that the closet system contains the usual closed drawers. They are necessary to protect some things from dust. You need to save space carefully, without harming the functionality. You will need special sections for clothing care products, containers with neutralizing odors, as well as ironing boards and other devices.

Convenient shelves and drawers

Additional amenities can be arranged with:

  • hangers of unusual shape;
  • organizers for small things.

Features of arrangement by gender

A distinctive feature of the women's wardrobe is the focus on the visual aspect and the presence of a large number of additional devices, while the male one is simplicity, convenience and functionality. A woman will need high sections for dresses. Both two- and three-tier wardrobe systems are suitable for them. Men need to choose among strict straightforward design styles with achromatic or mixed colors and a minimum of bright saturated colors. For women's locker rooms, such directions as shabby chic, glamor and provence are preferable.

A woman’s wardrobe contains more dividers, as female representatives have more accessories. Men's locker room usually contains a section with suits "under the hobby." Women will need a corner with an iron, an ironing board and a basket. In the classic version, the women's wardrobe is located next to the bedroom or the nursery, and the men's wardrobe is near the living room or study.

Wardrobe from the pantry

The locker room can be made by yourself. The basis may be a small pantry "Khrushchev". Before starting repairs, the condition of the pantry is checked, drawings are made. This will help to decide on the redevelopment or strengthening of the walls. If you do not need to change anything, then you just need to place the made racks and shelves in the room. Then proceed to the arrangement and design. Even before the installation of all structures begins, you need to whitewash the walls (or glue the wallpaper), do the lighting, and if you wish, fix the suspended ceiling made of drywall. Storage can be changed in another way. Instead of wardrobe sections, a spacious wardrobe is created. It will be necessary to decide what to do with the door of the pantry. They leave it the same, that is, swing, or make a new - sliding.Another option is a room without a door. Wardrobe makes it as ergonomic and functional as possible.

Do not make dubious manipulations with a door, ceiling or walls - if necessary, call a master furniture maker.

Dressing room in the bedroom with a partition

Alternatively, you can make a glass partition with sliding or swing doors. Another interesting solution is a fence lined with a mirror and parquet. The dressing room with sliding doors mounted in the wall will look unusual and stylish. In the upper part of the blind partition, several transoms can be made. The fence made in the form of a closet door looks interesting. Dressing rooms with mobile partitions are also diverse. The usual dressing room will be decorated with a curtain for a doorway. It is better to keep it half open. A screen will help to separate the rectangular space from the rest of the room. A corner in the form of a square is created using two curtains. The most original and beautiful option is a dressing room behind an impromptu “wall” in the form of a curtain. And if the wall is stationary, then on the sides of it you can place curtains.

Conclusion

The wardrobe is an important technical room. If you use it to the maximum, then the functional value of other rooms will change. There will be additional opportunities for decorating the living room, bedroom and nursery. Wardrobe room can be used as a pantry. It is very convenient when the locker room is a functional area, for example, connected to other rooms or separated by a small partition. Some people like to use sliding wardrobes for storing clothes and shoes, however, the modular system is more ergonomic and practical. Close to things keep various devices for leaving. The vacated place in different corners of the apartment is used to place other personal items, as well as art objects.In the process of making wardrobe you need to use imagination. Many styles will be appropriate.
