Corridor Ceiling Design

Corridor Ceiling Design

The entrance hall is a place where the energy of the street and the energy of the house come into contact. From here a person goes into the world and returns here in the evenings. Here guests are welcomed and get a first impression of the tastes of the hosts. Therefore, being engaged in the design of the corridor, it is necessary to combine in it both functionality and beautiful design.

And if the first part of the question is more about the floor, walls and filling, then the second very, very much depends on how well thought out the design of the ceiling in the hallway. Properly designed, it is able to largely embellish the room, emphasize its advantages and hide flaws.

Forms and types

Ceiling coatings are simple and suspended. In the first case, they are applied or attached directly to the base. In the second - they need the construction of a special skeleton. Simple ceilings are obtained as a result of whitewashing or painting the surface, pasting on it wallpaper or polystyrene boards. Their shape, in most cases, is a perfectly flat surface.

In suspended ceiling structures, transformations are limited only by the range of the flight of design imagination. In addition, it is possible to build both one- or two- and multi-level systems.

Types of false ceilings:

  • Plasterboard.
  • Tension (mounted).
  • Cassette
  • Rack and pinion.
  • Bindery.

The shape and type (or a combination of several) of ceiling structures are selected depending on individual taste preferences, budget for repairs, as well as architectural and other features of the room.

Materials and finishes

The abundance of modern technologies and materials for decoration allows you to build both simple, unpretentious, and technically complex, multi-level, with intricate geometry, ceiling structures in the corridor. And having understood the intricacies of the ceiling coating, its advantages and disadvantages, it becomes much easier to make the right choice. Let's consider them in more detail.

Whitewashing and painting

Against the background of the relative cheapness of materials, these finish options for corridor ceilings are significantly losing due to their fragility and duration of work. Indeed, in this case, an almost perfect alignment of the surface is necessary, and this is very labor intensive.

Whitewashing on the ceiling

Wallpapering and ceiling panels

This design of the ceiling is resistant to high humidity and does not require perfectly smooth surfaces. Its price is quite acceptable, the installation is easy, and leaving (with good quality material) is quite easy. But if the wallpaper is cheap, you can’t wash it. And the tile burns out too quickly in the sun. In addition, when the ceiling is uneven, these coatings will not hide it, but rather, even underline it.

Drywall Constructions

The design of the ceiling in the hallway with the help of drywall allows you to realize even very bold design decisions. They easily hide electrical wiring, as well as elements of other communications.

Such surfaces lend themselves perfectly to painting and pasting. They are easy to combine with other materials. And by incorporating spotlights in them, you can easily play with the dimensions of the room, then visually narrowing, then expanding it in the right directions. Using drywall, you can create abstract, curly or “soaring” ceilings that are so popular today.

But he also has drawbacks. So, this material is afraid of moisture. And also designs with its use significantly reduce the height of the room.

Stretch ceiling

An excellent interior solution is stretch ceilings. They are made of PVC film or polyester thread. Installed on a pre-mounted profile. Such a ceiling finish easily hides flaws and communication elements. And in case of flooding from above, it is easily restored.

Such structures collect water, preventing it from leaking down and ruining the repair or something from the situation. They are absolutely not afraid of cold and moisture, they have excellent operational characteristics, and they also make it easy to play with textures, colors and the shape of the ceiling.
But here, too, were not without flaws. First of all, such coatings are expensive. In addition, they are too vulnerable: they are easy to damage with any sharp object.And it is simply impossible to install with your own hands, because during installation you can not do without special equipment.

After the construction of the stretch ceiling, the installation of additional lighting devices becomes impossible.

Modular ceilings

These include coating materials such as aluminum sheets, mineral fiber and mirror panels, textured and colored polycarbonate. The designs are pretty solid and easy to install. They are not afraid of moisture and boast good sound insulation. They are easy to maintain and have a long period of use. Looks good in different styles: loft, minimalism, hi-tech.

Ceiling color scheme

In addition to the material, when choosing a ceiling for a corridor, it is very important to consider its color. It largely determines not only the aesthetic, but also the emotional component of the design of the room. After all, the fact that a person’s mood, his perception of the world around him, largely depends on the color scheme around him, has been proved even by science.

The choice of color for the ceiling in the corridor is made depending on its texture, as well as the color scheme used for the floor, walls and filling the room.

White

A color that blends perfectly with all others, emphasizing their strengths. Makes adjacent colors brighter and more expressive. Significantly facilitates the interior, gives it freshness and purity. This classic version is universal: regardless of the style chosen in the room, it will always look advantageous.

The black

The antipode of white, black also perfectly sets off neighboring tones and is combined with any interior. But it absolutely does not add, but even conceals the space. And if there is too much of it, the room may take a gloomy look. Therefore, it is very important to combine it with other colors.

Turquoise

Entering the corridor, the ceiling of which is painted in turquoise, a person has the feeling of a "safe haven."And this is not surprising, because marine shades soothe and relax. They cool the space and allow a person to balance.

Turquoise inlays on the ceiling

Blue

But blue will already create a completely different picture. It depresses a person, squeezes out his strength and literally "squeezes" out of the room. Moreover, the darker the shade, the stronger this effect. Fans of this color is very important to combine it with lighter and lighter. For example, white.

Blue stream in the hallway

Green

The color that is considered the most pleasing to the eye. He neither increases the room nor reduces it. It goes well with all shades of brown. With such a ceiling in the hallway, a person is always comfortable in this room.

Dark green ceiling

Brown

This color, like all its shades, creates a feeling of warmth and coziness in the corridor. Visually expands the room. It warms and calms, causing a person a sense of peace.

Wood ceiling

Red

Choosing red, on the contrary, visually reduces the size of the room. Bright and unbridled, it accelerates the heartbeat and even causes some anxiety. In order not to provoke excessive aggressiveness, it is better to dilute this color with neutral tones: cream, sand, white.

Dark ceilings require much more intense lighting than light.
Cleaning on dark ceiling structures will be much more frequent: the dust on them is much more noticeable, so you will have to take care of the constant presence of the stairs at hand.

Lighting and light sources

The design of the ceiling in the corridor largely depends on the correct choice of lighting. Beautiful and well-positioned lighting in the corridor favorably emphasizes its interior and adds comfort.
Lighting corridor space has its own rules:

  • a sufficient amount of light even in the absence of natural light;
  • lack of imbalance with the illumination of neighboring rooms;
  • both dim and too bright lighting is unacceptable;
  • instead of one large, blinding lamp, it is better to use several small ones;
  • when installing fixtures, it is necessary to consider zoning.

Features of various lighting devices

Spot or spotlights. Their use allows you to choose not only the desired brightness, but also the direction of the light. Choosing the right objects, focus on them and distract from the rest. They can be used both on the ceiling and on the walls of the room.

LED lights. Like the previous type of lighting, it is mounted in both ceiling and wall structures. But preferably as additional lighting. Located along the perimeter of the ceiling, gives it lightness and a "soaring" effect.

Chandeliers with lamps. Ceiling chandeliers are used as the main source of lighting. They focus on themselves, therefore it is important that this element be selected in full accordance with the general style of the room. In the presence of high ceilings, suspended ones look great, low - compact models.

Recessed lights. A very original solution is the lighting elements built into the ceiling niches. They give the ceiling a “soaring” effect and look very stylish and original. A special case of such lighting are also fixtures built into the upper shelves of cabinets and other furniture elements.

Bright rooms with a large number of glossy surfaces need a small number of lamps and vice versa.

Design ideas and solutions for halls of various types

The design of the ceiling in the hallway depends on the following criteria:

  • the size of the room;
  • the need for laying communication elements;
  • design features of the floor, walls and furniture;
  • budget for repairs.

For elongated hallways and corridors

Here, lighting from ceiling lights (rectangular!) It is desirable to direct not only the walls, but also on the ceiling itself, if it is not too high.This contributes to the visual expansion of the corridor. In addition, transverse lines or beams, stretch glossy canvases or multi-level ceilings can add a sense of space.

For a square hallway

Such corridor geometry is an ideal space for design in which there are no restrictions for imagination! Here you can afford any variations of finishes, colors and lighting. Moreover, the larger the room, the more complex and dynamic the ceiling structure should be.

Decoration of the ceiling in "Khrushchev"

The corridors in these apartments most often have very tiny sizes and low ceilings. The room can be expanded with light colors, glossy surfaces and light directed in different directions (including to the ceiling). In addition, ceiling false windows will be an excellent option for lighting here. But it is advisable to avoid drywall constructions here, because they conceal the space.

Ceiling decoration in Brezhnevka

Such apartments are characterized by ceilings of a sufficiently high height. To make them lower visually, you need to slightly shade this part of the room. To do this, you can paint it a little darker than the walls or use lamps with adjustable lighting directions. Light from them is directed to various objects below, and the ceiling remains in the shade. In addition, the construction of a false ceiling is perfect.

Conclusion

Carrying out the design, taking into account all of the above, you can not just build a ceiling in the hallway, which can easily fit into the budget allocated for repair. The competent use of design secrets of designing this design allows you to create ceiling coverings for the corridor, which radically change the original appearance of the premises, make them much more spectacular, beautiful and comfortable.
