American style in the interior

The flexibility and democracy of the American style makes it relevant for a wide variety of segments of the population. Thanks to this, he can exist with equal success both in the richest mansions and in city apartments of ordinary employees. In the direction, a synthesis of various styles is traced - Art Deco, country, classics. For the proper organization of space in accordance with the principles of the American style, you need a spacious room. Such conditions make it possible to fill the home with the air of freedom and emancipation - the main component of this trend.

About the style: history and features of different years

The emergence of the American style came in the first half of the 17th century. It was at this time that the first immigrants from Europe began to explore the unknown, but so attractive and alluring overseas continent. The wealthy immigrants sought to equip their homes in the spirit of their native culture. It was not so easy to recreate the situation on the spot. The shortage of suitable fabrics and finishing materials did not allow us to thoroughly convey the features of a particular interior style. Therefore, when decorating houses, elements of different foreign directions were used - literally - what was available. This was the reason for the departure from the stiffness inherent in the interiors of the "Old World". The style gradually became more and more distinctive.

Initially, even expensive furniture was simple and functional - in accordance with fashionable English trends. By 1780, former simplicity was replaced by respectable carvings and curved cornices. At the same time, the first examples of truly American furniture appeared - cabinets in the form of chests of drawers, set one on top of the other, or secretaries with wavy outlines.

By the beginning of the nineteenth century, the formation of the American style was almost complete. Its main distinguishing features were restraint, laconic decor, intense natural color and clear geometric shapes.

After the World Exhibition of Industrial Achievements was held in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century, the whole world and America, in particular, became keen on Art Deco ideas. Confirmation of this is the luxurious, extravagant interiors in which the famous Hollywood films of that time were shot.

For about half a century, demand for art deco products has not declined.When the passions calmed down, manufacturers tried to cause a new stir, popularizing rural themes. But the calls to live in harmony with nature did not impress everyone, so the country style advertised at that time did not find sufficient support, although there was still a slight rollback to this direction.

The American interior of today strives for sophisticated minimalism and careful selection of every detail. Modern furniture manufacturers in the United States focus on comfort, functionality and beauty, rather than puffy luxury.

Varieties of style

The formation of the American style was affected by the influence of different parts of the world. The United States has always been attractive to foreign nationals. They massively migrated from other continents in pursuit of the American dream, and at the same time brought with them particles of their culture. A contribution to the development of this direction was made by immigrants from Europe, Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It combines the features of many cultures, which is reflected in the interiors. American style can be divided into various categories depending on the style features characteristic of a particular area. Highlight classic, modern, neoclassical, country.

In the design, the presence of plastic trim, textile products from mixed materials, imitation of a fireplace is quite acceptable.

Modern american

A characteristic feature of the modern direction is a combination of functionality and comfort. Comfortable furniture of current shapes is arranged in accordance with classical principles.Despite the predominance of modern furniture, the interior may include elements of classics and art deco. The inclusion of classic details along with high-tech elements is very often used to create modern American interiors. In the decoration, a classic fireplace can be adjacent to an ultramodern TV, futuristic lamps with exotic vases and figurines, a mirror mosaic with a carriage screed.

American country style

The direction originated in rich country houses, and not at all in the outback, as many believe. Cheapness and asceticism are not the defining features of this style. Wooden walls, floors, exposed beams on the ceiling, rough furniture from raw wood are the hallmarks of country. An integral attribute of the living room is a fireplace in front of the relaxation area with comfortable upholstered furniture, upholstered leather or rough fabrics with a natural composition. The style is extremely close to nature, because it is based on the use of environmentally friendly materials and natural colors.

As you can see, American interiors have fundamental differences and can be presented both in a classic presentable form, and in a modern functional or rustic.

Characteristic features of the style

The multinationality of the United States led to the complex collective character of the American style. It is a typical combination of a European, African and Eastern approach to the selection of accessories and building an interior ensemble, and combines traditional and trendy trends. Premises decorated in this style, on the one hand, are neat and presentable, on the other hand, they are simple, functional and gravitate towards nature.

Imitation of luxury is one of the features of the American style.

For the American direction of design is characteristic:

  • luxury imitation, replacement of natural materials with plastic and MDF;
  • the predominance of the most economical localized lighting - the presence of sconces, floor lamps, table lamps. Central light is used in living rooms;
  • dividing the space into zones using mobile partitions, open shelving;
  • combination of rooms with different functionalities - the kitchen can be in the same room as the dining room, a sleeping place or an entrance hall is often combined with a living room;
  • furniture in the center of the room, not along the walls.

  • beige - popular in alliances with white, or as the primary color. There are fewer brands in comparison with the previous shade and does not require the application of titanic efforts to maintain a decent appearance of the room;
  • sand - a dull yellow hue, often serving as expressive accents. A fragment of the wall, a carpet, upholstered furniture can be painted in this color;
  • chocolate - an additional shade that allows you to highlight individual details of the interior and give the decoration depth and relief. Curtains, a carpet, an armchair, a carpet or beams on the ceiling can be painted in this color.

Materials with patterns serve to highlight the accent wall or its section. Such a combination of paintings allows you to make the interior more expressive, emphasize its strengths. In America, wall panels made of false panels are popular. As a rule, they are glued around the entire perimeter of the room, starting from the floor and ending at a height of 1.5 m. Another way of decoration is to paste over one of the walls as a whole.
