Chalet-style interior - examples of design in a house and apartment

Chalet Style

The historical homeland of the chalet style is the southeast of France, near the Alps. These are cozy, warm houses with characteristic design features in the form of a sloping roof, open terraces from which it is so convenient to admire the surrounding beauties. The atmosphere of the internal space is able to amaze a modern person with its magnificent simplicity, expressiveness, severe romance.

The dominance of wood, stone, the obligatory presence of a fireplace, the rejection of artificial materials and acid colors are not suitable for everyone. But she will surely find a response among people who know how and love to enjoy life, creative personalities and romantic natures who dream of finding peace. After all, to create your own unique piece of the Alps is possible not only in a country house, but also in an ordinary apartment.

Reasons for Popularity and Distinctive Features

Today, in a geographic sense, the chalet is gaining more popularity and has long left its historical region: Germany, USA, Canada, Italy, Spain and, naturally, Russia.

There are several reasons for the popularity of the chalet-style interior:

  1. Style is out of fashion: designers are only trying to bring modern objects into it, without violating the significant, natural atmosphere of an alpine house with history;
  2. The historical location in picturesque places gave an impetus to the fact that it began to be associated with romance, pastoral landscapes - people who are inclined to coziness choose;
  3. The desire of modern man to become closer to nature, to use environmentally friendly materials;
  4. The development of such a type of recreation as skiing gives the chalet associations with prestigious tourism.

Recognizable features:

  • Expanse, open space: all the interior items, which are few and unique in their kind, take on the main roles;
  • The predominance of natural materials. Wood, stone, brick - mostly unprocessed, rustic textures, specially aged for maximum authenticity. The use of ceramic tiles, metal elements, solid glass is not excluded;
  • The characteristic wooden beams, performing not constructive (especially in the interior of the apartment), but a decorative function, zoning the space;

Bedroom in a tree

  • For large rooms of country houses, with open-plan apartments, a thematic design that has its fans is suitable: “The Hunting Lodge”, “Natural Splendor of a Tree”, “Fireplace for a Family Nest”;
  • The historical nature of the design of the chalet demonstrates the symbiosis of the ever-young nature and things made by human hands, subject to aging processes: ceramics with cracks, aged wood,antique furniture, tapestries.

Finishing and color scheme

Alpine style requires primarily natural materials, which affects the price aspect. But the result is worth it. Only the ceiling, usually decorated with dark, unbleached beams, is amazing. The continuation is wooden wall panels, bars imitating props, giving a peculiar atmosphere to the whole room.

Walls can be decorated with gray stone, making the room more elegant. Against the background of wood, plastered surfaces look great, mostly light shades. Combinations of different types of wood are applicable: oak, pine, larch. Floor coverings with imitation of aging give a special rustic charm: the massif of the board should remain matte, semi-matte after processing. Necessary zones (kitchen, bathroom) are finished with tiles, and also from special, “village” collections.

Mountain View

The rather calm colors of the chalet's interior reflect the latest color trends:

  • Natural shades of wood, mostly warm tones;
  • Terracotta, beige, yellow;
  • Natural colors: natural linen, lime, tobacco, moss;
  • Gray color - a shade of stone inherent in the highlands;
  • Bright colors - only as small shades, and red.

Light in the window

Modern views have changed the appearance of chalet style windows. They became much larger, more often panoramic, but other aspects remained unchanged:

  • Location of the main facade to the east - sunlight penetrates during the day;
  • Window frames are made strictly of wood;
  • Binding with numerous flaps, several imposts or layout elements - glass splitting strips, called “decorative spros”.

Stuffed deer

With any options for natural intensity, there are certain rules for artificial light that do not violate the overall harmony of the chalet style:

  • Lighting repeats the natural as much as possible: no halogens, diodes, only soft, diffused light that does not destroy the charm of the interior;
  • The design, the appearance of the lighting devices are not included in the discord with the general direction. Authentic lighting fixtures are preferred: chandelier-candelabra, candle lamps for simple sconces;
  • Comfort above all: designers advise to allocate the necessary zone (most often working, dining) with an additional light source.

The final result will directly depend on the decoration of the windows. Lightweight, natural materials are preferred: linen, cotton. The color is calm, the prints are as simple as possible (light cell) or with recognizable alpine motifs. An alternative to curtains are wooden shutters from the inside.

Chalet Flaming Heart

No chalet interior is conceivable without a fireplace, stove or fireplace, transmitting all the warmth and comfort of a village house. Designers offer unusual designs with sufficient space, where the key element is located in the center of the lower floor. For decoration, it is better to use materials that can convey an alpine aura. Sometimes minting is used on wood and artificial aging - cracks, patina; facing by ceramics. Receptions are widely used for decorating and other surfaces.

Fireplace in the hall

A soft mantelpiece is created around the hearth: it acts as the center of the living room and at the same time as the heart of the house - all the family and friends gather here, for communication, it is as large as the area allows. Nearby you can put a rough wooden table, which serves as a coffee table, but with an appearance linking the ancient past and some bourgeois modern performance.

Natural finishes

A few more modernized versions that do not violate the tradition:

  • Glass surface separating the real flame;
  • Tables with built-in bio-fireplaces;
  • An electric fireplace with a plasma TV placed above it;
  • A kitchen hood hood that imitates parts of a real hearth.

Brutal furniture

The furniture in the chalet's interior is always massive, rude and angular. The deliberate simplicity and straightforwardness is enhanced by artificial aging - attrition, the effect of burnout in the sun.

Chalet style furniture

Eliminated plastic, transforming furniture, virtually no forging. Preferences are given:

  • Natural wood;
  • Leather upholstered furniture;
  • Wicker furnishings.

Mostly plain upholstery: upholstered linen, beige nubuck. Sometimes upholstery with stripes or with patterns is appropriate, but in any case decorative pillows, bedspreads from fur will be useful. In the chalet bedroom, notes of brutality are less likely to appear - a canopy canopy over a wide bed is allowed.

Dining room

Cabinets, consoles, cabinets are more often custom-made, as they have the important mission of hiding household appliances, without which the existence of a modern resident of an alpine hut is unthinkable.

Features of specific solutions

The living room is the center of the whole house or apartment in the chalet style. Here, its characteristic features should be fully manifested. The addition of surfaces made of glass, metal, polished stone, some glossiness of furniture items, for example, varnishing an old chest of drawers, will help to avoid visual crampedness.

But the kitchen can be more comfortable due to the completely wooden space. Specific recommendations of designers:

  • Masonry, brickwork, where necessary (working area), aesthetically combined with wooden logs, saw cuts, lining;
  • Replacing chrome and metal with brass: utensils, accessories, faucets;
  • The solidity of clay, ceramic dishes is softened by touching linen napkins, tablecloths;
  • Household appliances made of metal (refrigerator, microwave) will organically fit into the space.

The design project of a city apartment in a chalet style must necessarily take into account, in addition to the area, the height of the ceilings of the rooms.

Chalet Interior Colors

How not to turn a cozy mountain house into a gnome shack:

  • Clear observance of proportions, starting from the interior decoration and ending with decorative elements;
  • Refusal of too rough, massive wooden beams, if the ceiling height is less than 3 meters. An alternative - a combination of planed boards with plaster;
  • Wood trim takes precious centimeters - the design of only one wall, with preference for lighter breeds;
  • Adding space will help reception of cladding boards only up to a third of the height of the wall;
  • Replace large cabinets in the living room with open shelves with charismatic accents.
