Cozy interior: how to create a pleasant atmosphere

Now, when creating design projects, designers first of all direct their efforts to obtain beautiful interiors. The atmosphere should correspond to the aesthetic preferences of the owners of the house and should delight guests with their sophistication, lightness or originality. But even the most beautiful interior can be just a glossy picture from a fashion magazine: ideal from a design point of view, but completely devoid of life. As a rule, the situation is "revived" with the help of details. At first glance, they seem to be a chaotic combination of little things, but in fact they represent a harmonious system that creates the very mysterious harmony. The cozy interior has a special atmosphere: homely, “warm”, causing a desire to relax and not leave the room without an urgent need. Consider ways to design a space that will help to get a cozy atmosphere.

Comfort in the interior: what is it?

In most dictionaries, the concept of comfort is defined as improvement, comfort and order. At the mention of this word, a person involuntarily arises an association with domestic warmth, calmness. We will designate comfort as harmony between beauty and convenience. Achieving the perfect balance is not so easy. To create a cozy interior you need an individual approach. Each person has their own personal preferences regarding comfort and the details that create it. For some, there is nothing nicer than to surround yourself with a natural tree, put a large fireplace in the room and overfill the interior with small decor. Others feel comfortable only in spacious rooms where laconicism argues with primitivism. In some countries, there are even whole directions in design that affect not only the materialistic side of the issue, but also its spiritual component.

So, in the Scandinavian countries the concept of "hugge" is often found. In the narrow sense, this is a series of techniques and techniques that are aimed at creating comfort and coziness in the house. China has given us the ancient Taoist practice of organizing space - Feng Shui. She is incredibly popular all over the world. Feng Shui is based on the search for flows of qi (chi) energy, which overwhelms everything and affects a person. If you correctly place all the objects in the room, then this substance will harmoniously “flow” through space, having a beneficial effect on certain areas of household life. The cozy interior creates a person's feeling that he is at home.

Tricks and techniques for creating comfort

There are many ways to achieve comfort in the house. Moreover, it is advisable to use not one technique, but to combine techniques in order to find their perfect combination. First of all, the room’s color palette affects the comfort of the house. Then pay attention to the ergonomics and arrangement of furniture. Be sure to add indoor plants and textiles, which "softens" even the most austere interiors. The concept of comfort is often associated with everything natural: shades, materials and even light. The decor helps create a special atmosphere. Jewelry will be even more “warm” and homemade, if you make them yourself. Let us consider in detail the design options for cozy interiors and tips for achieving a design “Zen”.

Color palette

Comfort does not impose any restrictions when choosing a color palette. Only the concept of combining shades matters. There are several principles of harmonious combination:

  • Monochrome. This is a good option for small rooms. The basis of the composition is made up of different shades of the same color. The entire interior will present a smooth gradation, transitions between tones.
  • Similar. The basis of the palette is made up of three colors, which are arranged in a row on a spectral circle. For example, blue, purple and their intermediate version.
  • Contrast The gamma of the interior is based on two opponent colors, which are placed opposite each other on a spectral circle.

In addition to the above options, colors can be combined by superimposing geometric shapes (triangle, square, pentagon) on the spectral circle. Those shades that fall on the corners, and combine.

It is also worth considering the color temperature. To make the room lighter, use warm shades (orange, yellow, brown). If the room needs, on the contrary, to darken and cool, then blue, cyan, violet, and green are used.

Cozy and comfortable furniture

Furniture should be comfortable and ergonomic, but also beautiful. For coziness, not only the appearance of the closet or sofa matters, but also their location in the room. The simplest layout is considered to be a perimeter layout. All furniture details are evenly distributed along the walls. This will avoid clutter and clear the route. The latter is especially important for walk-through rooms. For large or combined apartments, complex planning options are increasingly being practiced. For example, in the kitchens they use the island scheme, when one of the vertices of the working triangle stands separately, in fact, closer to the middle of the room, and the rest are placed against the wall. This option is popular for studios where furnishings immediately carry out the actual zoning of the space.

The role of textiles in creating a cozy atmosphere

To assess the role of textiles in the interior, it is enough to completely remove it from the apartment for a while. Such a visual experiment will show how “prickly” and non-residential a room will be: bare window dips, hard and uncomfortable furniture, a cold floor. Most styles use carpets, curtains, tablecloths and sofas (armchairs, beds, ottomans) with soft upholstery. Slightly less fabrics are used in minimalism and the modern "industrial" style - loft. In them, curtains are replaced with bamboo panels or blinds, tablecloths and carpets are completely abandoned. A constant part of the interior are bedspreads, blankets and pillows. In the kitchen, textile decor is complemented by napkins, towels, potholders, short curtains and tablecloths. Sometimes interior doors are replaced with textile “icicle-curtains”. The option is suitable for small apartments, where there is no place for swing structures.

Lighting

To get comfort in the interior you need to let in as much natural light as possible. Light curtains or curtains in combination with a weightless spiderweb tulle will help to do this. Heavy, dense curtains are best left for the luxury of classic interiors. If the windows face the north side, then grains of sunlight will help to preserve and enhance the warm shades in the color scheme of the room. The lack of lighting is also compensated by artificial light sources. Chandeliers, sconces, flashlights, light fixtures, and garlands of light bulbs make up a complex system. For the comfort in the room is usually responsible for decorative lighting. It is represented by the scattered light produced by single (point) sources. They are placed around the perimeter of the room, emphasizing individual design elements. Decorative lighting is not intended to perform practical tasks. It plays the role of decoration.

In the bedroom or living room an additional source of "live" light will be a fireplace. The foci generally belong to the obligatory details of the interiors of country houses and cottages. As a rule, in a private building it is easier to carry out the necessary communications and gain access to cheap fuel. For apartments, they acquire compact and safer bio-fireplaces.

Living plants

In cozy interiors, they must find a place for indoor plants. For unusual design, exotic flowers are selected that amaze with the bizarre shapes or shades. For classics, more prosaic but refined plants are suitable: dracaena, ficus, calla lilies. In Provence (a type of rustic style), preference is given to lush flowers in large tubs or pots: azaleas, guzmania, tradescantia, ferns, Kalanchoe. Weaving plants will become a luxurious addition to any interior. They will not only bring a fraction of heat into the general atmosphere, but also help to mask wall defects. Large mansions have separate rooms for greenhouses and conservatories.

DIY accessories and decorative elements

Do-it-yourself interior parts always warm the heart much more than the decor purchased in the store. The same unspoken rule also applies to elements made by artisanal methods. Manual labor is the key to the uniqueness of a thing. You can create decorative elements in a wide variety of techniques. First you need to decide on your skills and choose the material with which you would like to work. Sew, knit, roll toys, napkins, blankets, carpets, paintings from threads, yarn, ribbons, pieces of fabric. From plaster and clay create magnificent bas-reliefs or figurines, stucco elements, which subsequently complement the finish. Wonderful shades, figures and paintings (quilling) are made of paper. Even a set of dry twigs collected in the park can be turned into an unusual “bouquet” composition, which will become a vivid detail of the eco-style.

Books as a complete element of decor and comfort

Books are not only a source of knowledge, but also a stylish element of a cozy interior. Although home libraries are gradually being superseded by electronic ones, second-hand shelving with bookshelves will continue to be an accent in any interior. In the design concept, the books themselves play a lesser role than the shelves on which they are placed. In modern interiors, the classic idea of a storage location for books (wooden box) has long ceased to be canonical. Increasingly, racks of the original configuration are used: with “steps”, round, triangular, multifaceted, in the form of a “snail”. The more original the library, the more extravagant the interior becomes.

Add fire - candles and fireplace to the interior

Living fire from ancient times has been associated with the hearth, near which coziness arose. The best place for a fireplace is considered a hall. The room where all households and guests gather is ideal for locating a hearth that will attract and contribute to bringing the family together on calm evenings. Fireplaces are installed not only in private homes, but also in apartments. They cost more compact bio- or electro-versions.If you can’t even buy such an aggregate, you can replace it with a group of candle lights. They get it not only for the holidays, but simply “for the soul” at the usual time to create a cozy, slightly mysterious atmosphere with dancing shadows on the walls.

The use of natural wood

As mentioned above, wood is a natural universal material that is used both in decoration and in the manufacture of furniture and decor. Rough timber houses are considered an important component of the Russian ethnic style. Magnificent pieces of furniture are made from wood in a artisanal way: tables, chairs, stools, bed frames, lullabies. If the work is done roughly, it goes well with forging in rustic interiors. For more elegant details, decorated with fine carvings, expensive styles are suitable: classic, colonial and even palace. The boards are ideal for creating an accent wall in a room where they are laid out in a "deck" way. The natural colors of wood are combined with almost any shade, which makes it easy to integrate the material into the interior.

Popular and cozy interior styles

Any style has its own special charm and comfort. There are no directions devoid of inner harmony. However, some styles have more fan groups than others. The ratio of fans is largely influenced by fashion, which, as you know, is constantly changing. That is why we can note a number of styles that are currently considered the most comfortable, but have a very ephemeral advantage over outsiders:

  • Country. The group of rustic styles is simple and easy to design. The interiors use an abundance of wood and decor. Textiles are given great importance in a funny cage or with floral ornaments.
  • Provence. One of the subtypes of country style. The destination is from the French suburbs. It is characterized by a touch of romanticism and tenderness in the interiors. To create the atmosphere, old furniture, a large number of fresh flowers and a small sculpture are used. Large panoramic windows let light into the room. Walls are plastering or wallpapering in flower. Of the materials, preference is given to natural wood and fabrics.
  • Shabby chic. One of the varieties of the classic style. "Shabby" in English translates as "shabby." This word is the whole concept of style: it is noble, but has already managed to slightly lose its gloss. For shabby chic, a special color scheme is characteristic, the basis of which is pink and white. Complement the palette with pastel shades. Furniture choose elegant old or artificially aged. The stucco molding, gilding, bas-reliefs, groups of paintings with delicate landscapes are used in the decor.
  • Eclecticism. The direction is a potpourri of several styles that are harmoniously combined in one room. Eclectic interiors are almost always unique, because from several components you can collect a lot of "pictures". A more striking and extraordinary style is considered a modern variety of eclecticism - fusion. Its combinations are based on contrasts, which are sometimes even shocking.

  • Biedermeier. The German style has a special cosiness of the old classics. The interiors use light wood furniture. The upholstery is decorated with unobtrusive patterns. The basis of the color scheme are shades of red and brown. In the interiors there is a lot of cozy decor: plaids, blankets, pillows, paintings, dishes, indoor plants. In the center of the room, as a rule, necessarily have a furniture group. In Biedermeier, they try to avoid sharp corners.
  • English ethnic style. The basis of the color composition is made up of three or four shades. They can be both bright and calm. The British have a special love for the muted red color. Usually it is present in textiles. In English interiors they manage to combine silk, lace, chintz, velvet, damask, leather and plush. At the same time, large prints are combined with small patterns on textile surfaces in one room. Furniture harmoniously combines grace and massiveness. The interiors use both antique details and modern elements. Of the decor, straw straw baskets, antique watches, cardboard boxes with bow ties, family photos in gilded frames, dinner sets, caskets and indoor plants are preferred.
  • Vintage (not to be confused with retro). This trend is characterized by the use in the interior of things that were cult in the past, but did not manage to become antiques. Designers suggest focusing on the period from the 20-30s and 80s of the last century. Interior details do not have to be genuine. You can purchase high-quality imitation and age it artificially using brushing, staining or craquelure techniques.
  • American style. This area is characterized by a natural color scheme (brown, yellow, green), a small amount of decor, a discreet ornament on the surfaces of finishing materials and furniture upholstery. By the way, American furniture is usually made of mahogany. The floor is usually sheathed with boards painted in gray or brown. The room is decorated with wicker baskets with fruits, bronze candlesticks, groups of photographs in simple wooden frames and decorative plates on stands.

These styles can also be attributed to Russian ethnicity, the comfort of which will please our compatriots. The color of the village hut, handmade decor, a stove, hand-painted porcelain and a hot pot-bellied samovar, gleaming with a polished side that rises on the dining table with the view of the owner of the house. All this warms the soul of a Russian person with the comfort of a remote place.

Conclusion

Cozy interiors evoke only positive emotions. They are overflowing with life, tranquility, harmony. In such an atmosphere, I want to not only relax, but also to create. The “magic” of coziness helps restore peace of mind, but without the apathy that often accompanies excessive relaxation. On the contrary, the situation encourages the implementation of ideas and gives confidence in oneself. Do not underestimate the importance of simple home comfort in a person’s life.
