Cones Decor Ideas

Decor of cones

The decor of cones will decorate the interior of the room and the exterior of the house. Amusing animals, miniature trees, original bouquets, decorative wreaths for the holidays and whole wall panels are made from this simple and affordable material. In our country, cones or achenes, as they are also called in common people, are associated with the New Year, dressed up Christmas trees and the smell of mandarin. In Western countries, they decorate traditional wreaths for Christmas. They are made of wood branches, decorated with bows, beads, candles and artificial snow. The finished composition is attached to the front door or hoisted on a festive table. When creating crafts, acorns, chestnuts, nutshells, fabric and various accessories are additionally used. Some of the most affordable types of natural material are noted:

  • Pine trees. They are small in size, have a slightly elongated shape to the tip;
  • Larch cones.Reminiscent of slightly flattened balls. Even in closed cones, the tips of the “scales” are curved outwardly;
  • Spruce. Oblong specimens differ from pine ones in size (two to three times more);
  • Cedar. The largest: the middle bump can barely fit in the palm of your hand. Exotic material for residents of the south and middle strip, since cedars prefer the northern climate;
  • Fir. Similar to spruce, but have smaller "scales";
  • Sequoias. These cones, like parent trees, are gigantic in size. They are not used for crafts, except when creating huge, monumental compositions.

Bumps - a natural, environmentally friendly material, crafts from which you can easily create with your own hands, armed with patience and a couple of workshops.

Material preparation

Spruce and pine cones are harvested throughout the winter. They ripen and begin to fall by mid-autumn. “Closed” cones grow on the branches: their “scales” fit snugly against each other, thereby protecting the seeds. Under the feet of the fallen carpet, usually already opened specimens lie. Owners of country houses and cottages go for booty to the nearest forest. Residents of apartments in megacities go to parks. Usually maples, chestnuts and blue Christmas trees are planted there. After the "forest" crop is harvested, proceed to its processing. This stage is of great importance, as the craft may lose its shape over time, and, accordingly, the “salable” look. In this, any novice decorator will help a few tricks:

  • If you got crooked specimens or vice versa, you need to bend it in a certain direction, then the shape is easy to adjust.Pour cold water into a container and soak the cones overnight. In the morning they are taken out of the fluid already pliable. In places that need to be corrected, the cone is pulled with a harsh thread and dried. The miniature bud, which is surrounded by blossoming "petals", looks original.
  • To lighten the scales, prepare a solution of water and bleach in a 5: 1 ratio. Cones are soaked in it for 2 hours. Then they are thoroughly dried and washed with soap and water to remove microscopic particles of household chemicals.
  • So that the cones do not open, they are soaked in wood glue. After the procedure, dried. The specimens that only soaked only half look original. As a result, one side will be securely glued, and the second will eventually bloom like an exotic flower.
  • In a warm room, the cones will open sooner or later, to speed up this process, boil them in boiling water for an hour, and put them on the battery for subsequent drying. Some “bake” the material in the oven. It is heated to 250 degrees and the future decor is prepared for two hours. During this time, the bumps will open and will remain so.

The latter processing method further disinfects the material.

By the way, during the heat treatment of cones, the apartment will be filled with a unique coniferous aroma that will linger in it for a long time. This method is used to create the atmosphere of the New Year holiday.

New Year's ideas

Mandatory attributes of New Year's decor are a pine or tree, garlands, balls and of course tangerines in a basket. From cones you can make not only decorations or bouquets, but also wreaths, toys, decorative candlesticks that will decorate the room and the festive table. In baskets of achenes they give gifts or put sweets for guests in them.

Options for Christmas toys

Christmas toys from cones look stylish and original. They are usually combined with simple balls.All toys are conditionally divided into several types:

  • Simple bumps on threads. They are painted or decorated with accessories;
  • Figures of snowmen, owls, deer, mice and other animals;
  • Garlands;
  • Christmas stars;
  • Volumetric snowflakes.

To create a simple decor, which nevertheless will look stylish and natural, you will need:

  • Glue. It is better to take carpentry;
  • Strong threads;
  • Gypsy needle;
  • Spray paints;
  • Friable spangles;
  • Plain wool.

Cones Decor Ideas

For additional decor, use ribbons, bows, miniature gifts, red beads imitating rowan brushes. When the cones are prepared properly, they are painted from a spray can. Usually they use paints with a metallic or gold tint, because such an ornament looks more impressive. If you use simple colors: red, green, purple, then they are additionally decorated with sparkles on top. After the paint has completely dried, the surface is covered with a layer of glue and, until it has dried, sprinkle on top with shiny crumbs. In some cases, the tips of the blossoming scales are painted white, simulating snow (sprinkled with salt). A similar coating, but more voluminous, can be made from small pieces of cotton wool. The "root" of the cones is pierced with a needle with a thread threaded into it or a loop is tied on it. In this way, the toys will be attached to the Christmas tree. “Beads” of beads are strung on a string, satin ribbons and bows with tiny gifts are attached. The latter are easy to manufacture:

  • Cut a foam cube and coat it with glue;
  • Wrap it with shiny wrapping paper;
  • Decorate the gift with a gold thread or ribbon.

Balls

Garlands of cones are created according to a simple scheme:

  • Achenes of different sizes are prepared for decoration;
  • The "spine" of each cone is pierced with a needle or awl;
  • A thread or fishing line is passed into the hole. If the garland is long, it is better to use the latter, since it is more reliable;
  • The resulting “ribbon” is painted or decorated with “snow caps” (glued with cotton).

Christmas stars and large snowflakes are created according to one principle. The only difference is that the second rays will have more. The asterisk traditionally has five ends. For work you will need:

  • Wire for the frame;
  • The material itself;
  • Joiner's glue;
  • Awl;
  • Paint, sparkles, decorative elements.

Little people

First, a five-pointed frame is made of wire. For snowflakes add "rays" as you wish. Then the cones (about the same size) from the side of the "cuttings" pierce with an awl. The wire is smeared with glue and the decor is strung on it. After the bonding agent has dried, the finished products are painted, sprinkled with sparkles or artificial snow. To create snowflakes, cones are attached to its core with sharp ends to make the figure “fluffy”.

To make decorative animals you will need the basic material, toothpicks or wire, glue, beads for the eyes, pieces of felt or other fabric for clothing and cotton wool. To create an animal from cones, you have to connect a fantasy. A large specimen will become the body, a smaller cone is suitable for the muzzle, and the legs are made of thin wooden sticks. Santa Claus and snowmen are dressed in tiny costumes. "Parts of bodies" are interconnected according to the principle of fastening the star (wire and glue). To create individual elements use felt, which holds its shape well. Thus, the tree is hung with hedgehogs, squirrels, cubs, bullfinches, owls, deer, mice and gnomes.

The original solution will be the use of old small toys that are no longer suitable for anything. They are "gutted" into separate parts, which are subsequently glued to the bumpy body.

Wreath of cones

As the basis for the wreath, use a finished frame, wire or cardboard, folding branches, old newspapers tightly twisted into a ring. You can attach decor in several ways:

  • With glue. The easiest option, which is suitable for a paper or store-bought circle;
  • Miniature rings are attached to each decorative element, which are strung on a wire. The connection of the ends of the circle will have to be done after the wreath is completely formed;
  • Cones, nuts and balls are attached to the fishing line or twine, which is subsequently wound on a frame.

Wreath of cones

Wreaths of achenes are hung on doors, on walls in rooms, or laid on a table near a Christmas tree. For their design, tiny balls, stars, silk ribbons, beads, plastic figures, dried fruits (halves of oranges) and coniferous branches are used. Cones are painted in different colors, sprinkled with sparkles, decorated with snow and “drape” with translucent ribbons.

The original decoration in the New Year’s setting will be a ball of achenes. To create it you will need:

  • Toilet paper and glue;
  • Balloon;
  • Paint for the color of cones;
  • The seeds themselves.

Necessary materials

First, the balloon is inflated, then it is carefully wrapped with paper, which is previously soaked in glue. The composition is left alone until completely dry. Then its surface is stained to prevent the paper from showing between the slender rows of achenes. A festive ribbon is put on the ball, which will act as a loop for attaching to the ceiling or doorway. Now the most difficult stage of work: gluing cones. Since the base is very fragile, it should be handled as carefully as possible. Achenes are glued to it in a row, trying to avoid the formation of voids. After drying, the surface of the ball is additionally decorated.

The frame can also be made from an old wire hanger. Her shoulders are connected to each other, and the hook is cut off or used as the basis for the volumetric detail of the future wreath.

Christmas tree

Not only decorations are made from cones, but also the Christmas trees themselves.For these purposes, you will need either one cone, or a dozen copies of similar sizes. A miniature Christmas tree is placed in the same pot. The cone is painted from a spray can in green or silver color, and waiting for complete drying. Then proceed to decorate. Tiny snowflakes from openwork, beads, balls, stars made of foil or shiny wrapping paper, and rain threads hang on the opened flakes. For a large Christmas tree, a cardboard cone is made. On it, seeds are glued in rows with sharp ends outward. Large cones are attached from the bottom, and those that are smaller are left under the top. The finished tree is decorated with New Year's attributes. The presence of even a tiny Christmas tree in the workplace will bring with it a sense of celebration.

Candlestick

Candlesticks can be created from scratch by yourself or decorate existing ones. The easiest and fastest option: use glass containers. Salt is poured into it, which imitates snow, and is decorated with small twigs. A candle is placed in the center of the composition. The neck of the jar is coated with glue, on which salt is poured. On top of the “snow” layer, a pair of decorated cones are fixed on a twine or satin ribbon. For more complex compositions, you will need:

  • Cardboard;
  • One big bump;
  • Glue and scissors;
  • A small glass candle holder;
  • Spangles for decoration.

Cut out the base Glue cones Glue nuts Coloring Glue beads

The opened cone is carefully disassembled into separate scales. A small circle is cut out of cardboard twice as much as the bottom of the candle glass. The first row of flakes is glued to the paper base. Gaps are left between them, since the surface will have a checkerboard pattern. Then gradually the next one is glued onto each row, thus forming a bump. Closer to the top of the scale, the tips are directed inward to repeat the outline of the sample. Then the candlestick is decorated with “snow” or sparkles, and a container with a candle is placed in the center.

On the festive table not only decorated candle holders are placed, but also bouquets of seeds, small coniferous branches near the dishes or miniature Christmas trees.

Children's crafts

Cones are an excellent material for making crafts together with a child. They compete with clay, plasticine and cardboard. Of the seeds often create funny little men and animals (turkey poults, spiders, chanterelles, dogs). The main thing in this process is to connect imagination and make out in the outlines of the cones of the muzzle, back or paws. In the work they use the main material, fabric for decorating suits, glue, an awl and a wire (toothpicks) for connecting parts to each other. Additionally, twine, feathers, buttons for eyes or noses and twigs are used.

Cone teddy bear

For a teddy bear's body it is better to take a large fir cone. The animal will "sit" like a person. Pine paws are attached to it. To do this, use a wire that is threaded into pre-prepared holes. The face of the beast is made out with peas of black pepper or beads, which will replace the button of the nose and eyes. Ears can be made of felt or loops of woolen thread. To create another model, the achene imitating the body is wrapped with twine. Previously, paws are attached to it with a thin wire (it is tied around the "body"). The head is also decorated with twine and attached to the rest of the bear body with a piece of solid wire, which will act as a frame. Ready-made animals are dressed in tiny costumes, caps are placed on their heads, and satin bows are tied on their necks. In more complex models of crafts, ears and paws are collected from pulled out and re-glued “scales”. To make the toy soft, the “heels” and auricles are decorated with pompons pre-assembled from threads of light shades.

Cones and chestnuts

Chestnuts make excellent caterpillars, and when paired with cones they imitate the smooth heads of crafts.These fruits pour organically into the New Year's composition. Previously they are cleaned of the spiny shell. Park nuts can easily fit onto wire or toothpicks. The result is an impromptu "bud" that is woven into wreaths and bouquets. Chestnut-nut filling can decorate a basket of cones. They are also used to create large Christmas trees: the surface of the fruit is covered with artificial snow.

Cones and acorns

Hats of acorns are usually used to create legs and pens in crafts that mimic people and animals. From them, you can make a magnificent voluminous wreath. Whole acorns, their empty hats and pine cones are glued onto a dense base of paper or cardboard. The finished wreath is covered with a brilliant dusting or paint and wrapped with twine. From acorns and cones the original topiary is obtained. The tops of such “trees” are not specially painted, since a composition with different shades of brown in itself looks harmonious. Along with walnuts and hazelnuts from acorns make additional decorative elements in winter bouquets of cones.

How to make a basket

The basket is performed in two versions:

  • Simple with a cardboard base;
  • A complex composition made entirely of seeds.

Cooking cones Weave ring Weave the second ring We connect the rings with wire We jam the ends

For the first option, they take a cardboard, and glue it in such a way as to make a cylinder. On one side, its edge is vertically incised into small pieces that bend inward. They will be needed to secure the bottom. Then cut out a circle of the same material and glue it to the cylinder. Pine cones are attached in rows to the base, and fir cones can be arranged vertically. In a more complex version, the achenes are tied with a thin wire. It is threaded under the blossoming flakes. The result is a few "bumpy" circles that are connected using the same wire. Subsequently, it can be masked with ribbons. The handle of the basket is made by a similar technology.

You can also make a semicircular basket. A foam ball is half wrapped in foil in several layers. Cones are glued to it, and after drying, the base is removed. The disadvantage of this craft is its fragility.

Cones gift decor

A gift wrapped in packaging can be decorated in a "winter" style. To the bow, which traditionally decorates the top of the presentation, attach a composition of spruce twigs and one or two seeds. The latter are pre-stained, sprinkled with spangles or decorated with cotton. Collect a mini-bouquet with a simple thread: it is held together by “cuttings” of cones and the tip of a twig. They complement the composition with an asterisk or Christmas tree made of shiny cardboard, on the back of which the name of the recipient of the gift is written. You can decorate the ribbon itself with cones, they are simply glued to its tips.

Original in a similar "bouquet" will look miniature balls made of woolen threads. Previously they are wound on an air "relative" coated with glue. After drying, the ball is punctured, and the residue is removed from the "filament" frame.

Winter bouquet

To create a bouquet or topiary, you will not need deep knowledge in floristry. Of these decorative elements create real winter gardens and flower beds in the house. The original addition will be such a composition in the hands of the bride at the wedding. To make topiary (curly-cut trees), a ball is formed from papier-mâché. It is glued with cones, and pierced from below with wire, which will imitate the trunk. The earth is poured into a pot or gypsum is poured and several ready-made “branches” of different heights and sizes are placed. Pre-stained or wrapped with twine. The finished composition is decorated with accessories, ribbons and sparkles. Such trees are placed in the house, as it is believed that they attract luck. To create a miniature bouquet you will need:

  • Cones;
  • Smooth twigs or wire;
  • Glue, scissors;
  • Ribbons for decor;
  • Beads, paints and sparkles.

Necessary materials Paint the bumps Leave them to dry We cover the cones with varnish Making leaflets

As the basis of the composition, real branches or wire are used, which will have to be masked additionally. Cones and beads are attached to the tops of the rods with glue. They are painted or sprinkled with sparkles ahead of time. Then individual twigs are collected in a bouquet and tightly bandaged with ribbons approximately in the middle. Possible "voids" in the finished composition are filled with satin bows to match. For a greater “winter” effect, real branches of spruce or thuja are added to the bouquet. They have neat needles that will not spoil the miniature decor.

Conclusion

Bumps are practical and affordable material. Creation of crafts from them includes the collection of material, its preliminary preparation and the embodiment of bold design ideas. The process of independently decorating the premises for the holiday will drag even the most serious people who have long forgotten how to believe in New Year's miracles. A handmade environment will be the pride of the owners and true magic for the children.
