Art Nouveau is considered by many to be the most modern of styles, although it arose at the end of the nineteenth century. Separate elements of that era are still guessed in modern interiors, involving a person, all his spheres of activity in the world of beauty. There are practically no straight lines, simple forms, and the rooms are as aesthetic and functional as possible. The unique interior of the living room in the Art Nouveau style is suitable for decoration of both a city apartment and a private house.

About the style: history, features

This style originated in the last decade of the century before last and was very popular before the First World War.It is characterized by “soft” forms of decor, functionality of furniture, stylized natural elements. Refined design, brightness, excessive decorativeness, twisting lines give it a peculiarity. The “Russian Art Nouveau” was also distinguished from other directions - elegant, bewitching, designed to deny almost everything that came before it.

Walls

High-quality, expensive silky wallpapers with complex floral ornaments adorn the walls of the living room, create an atmosphere of warmth, coziness. Preferred wallpaper is golden-pearl, gray-beige, green-brown colors. To comply with the stylistic design, one should not combine several finishing options on one wall.
Decorative, colored plasters, liquid wallpaper, paints are also acceptable. It is desirable that the walls are as smooth as possible. If the living room is combined with the kitchen, the kitchen is laid out with fine mosaic tiles, and the above-mentioned zone stands out as smoothly as possible.

Floor

The floor of the modern living room is most often decorated with parquet or flooring, less often with natural stone, ceramic tiles, laminate, very rarely with dense, solid linoleum. Using various materials, zoning is carried out, and the joints of the coatings are not straight, but smooth, rounded, sometimes sinuous.
Complex patterns, floral ornaments in the design of a bulk transparent floor are also used quite often. Entire pictures are laid out from the natural veneer of various wood species. The most commonly used stained and bleached oak, pine, spruce, walnut, mahogany, cherry, maple.

Ceiling

Most of the furniture is not placed along the walls, but "at an angle." Furniture is selected antique, artificially aged, bizarre shapes. There is often an asymmetric sofa, a bookcase or a wall cabinet decorated with multi-colored stained-glass windows, a glass coffee table with wrought-iron legs. The main production material is valuable wood.
The dining room consists of a round or asymmetric table, chairs matching its color. Less often, the table and each of the chairs are made of different colors. In the kitchen-living room, the figured bar counter, which visually separates the hall from the kitchen, and high "bar" chairs, often become the dining area.
Furniture does not need too much, the presence of large free space is a hallmark of style. Zoning is also often done with furniture, especially when it comes to a studio apartment, kitchen-living room.Hanging furniture or having many wrought iron elements is welcome.
Bent-glued parts, which were based on Japanese furniture, also became an integral element of style. Showcases, snail chairs, cobra chairs, whatnots are often present in the design of a modern living room. Decor, accessories

The walls are decorated with decorative plates, framed paintings, bizarre mirrors or simple rectangular frames in black and brown. All accessories are selected large, bright, artsy shapes, textures. Elements of stone, bronze, silver, gilded, with forging elements are welcome. Stained glass paintings, shades of floor lamps, partial decoration of the ceiling with stained-glass windows add a special touch to the room.
Living green plants in ceramic flowerpots are beautifully arranged on the windows, forged or wooden holders for flower pots, and decorative flowerpots are also attached to the walls. Figures of fish, clay bird whistles, huge sea shells, wooden carved caskets, African ivory figurines, small pictures or family photos in dark frames with elements of a “noble patina” are randomly arranged on shelves.

Partitions here exist only in the form of openwork screens with fancy patterns, painted textile screens. The walls are selected mainly gray, pale blue, beige - this is usually done three walls, the fourth becomes bright, accent. The floor is slightly darker than the walls, the ceiling is much lighter.

The home design project often has a terrace, which is also decorated in a modern style. It has a smooth intricate shape, and the doors to the terrace are made sliding, transparent, panoramic - sitting on a cozy sofa in the living room it is convenient to admire the beautiful view of a flowering or snowy garden, seeing almost the entire site.
