Kitchen Design Project

Of course, the hostess spends the lion's share of free time in the kitchen. When designing the interior of the room, first of all, take into account her wishes. “Culinary patrimony” should also satisfy the aesthetic tastes of other household members (especially if the option is combined with the dining room) and obey a number of general rules, which are determined by the special microclimate of the room. Many kitchen design projects are trusted by professionals, thereby relieving most of their worries. Turning other people's ideas into reality is much easier than developing your own from scratch. The finished plan will be presented to you “on a silver platter”, if possible, they will take into account taste preferences and desires. However, in recent years, the practice of independently creating a design project has become more and more popular, when the layman can try on the role of a venerable designer.Such a decision is due primarily to saving money that would go to pay for the services of a professional. However, the result will be not only original, exclusive, but also meeting all the requirements of the owners themselves to design their apartment. Who better than the owners themselves will be able to make their dreams come true? Let’s try to figure out how to correctly make a competent project and by what generally accepted frameworks it is necessary to limit it.

How to start a kitchen design project

Any design project, as a rule, begins with a drawing, and preferably with a layout. It marks the size of the room and the features of its shape. Also take into account the placement of window and doorways, communications, sockets and switches. Then, the layout and arrangement of furniture begin to be introduced into the project, and decoration options are considered. Practical work will begin with the selection of materials after the “theory”. Their number is easy to calculate if the kitchen was previously properly taken and recorded. Even before starting the design, there is already a blurry plan in the head, with a pre-selected style of decoration. It is necessary to familiarize yourself with the features of the direction in more detail so as not to create a potpourri and stay within the same interior solution.

Modern kitchen design

In the design of the kitchen-living room, take into account the features of both functional areas and try to adhere to the principle of their "equality". Both rooms play important roles and none of them should prevail, thereby “infringing” the other in space.

Determine the style

In the variety of styles it is easy to get lost, because there are hundreds of them.Such a rich “assortment” is due to the presence of a large number of “branches” in one direction. They obey the general laws and adhere to uniform rules, but have characteristic features that make it possible to distinguish these “child” styles into subgroups. Note the five areas that are currently enjoying unprecedented popularity:

  • Classical. "Longevity" among the styles. Classics is suitable for people with impeccable aesthetic taste, who like to surround themselves with luxury and feel in a similar atmosphere of “at home”. The style is characterized by the use of pastel shades and tones from a rich brown palette. Natural heavy fabrics are used in textiles, and wood and glass are used in decoration. He loves classic stucco molding, crystal, ornaments, complex patterns and smooth lines. In such interiors, not only decoration, but also decoration itself becomes art.

  • Loft. The direction is relevant for a kitchen studio, since the industrial style was born in free spaces that were previously not used for living. The loft is characterized by combinations of rough finishes and elegant details, an abundance of artificial lighting, open communication systems. Of the materials, brick, stone, wood, and plastic prevail.

  • Provence. Noble rustic style with a touch of exquisite French flavor. Aged furniture (antiques), light shades, a lot of white, floral patterns, indoor plants, wood trim - these are the main features of the style.

  • Minimalism. The direction is aimed at people who do not tolerate too much in their home. As a rule, white color prevails in the interior, furniture uses only the necessary minimum, a series of paintings on an accent wall is allowed from the decor. Unusual forms and contrasts of the textures of the surfaces of the finish and decor revive the style.

  • High tech. High-tech style, keeping pace with the times.The abundance of household appliances, chrome surfaces, plastic and glass, the play of contrasts, the dominance of gray, black and white in the color scheme - such is the “minimum” program for “combed” constructivism.

In addition to the above areas, Art Deco, country, shabby chic, art nouveau, retro, futurism, neoclassic, fusion, abstract art, Scandinavian and eco style are relevant.

Taking measurements

It is necessary to find out the exact dimensions of the kitchen in order to correctly calculate the amount of finishing materials and not to be mistaken with the dimensions of the furniture. The room can have a large number of angles, sloping ceilings and a complex communication system that cannot be moved to another place. Familiarity with these nuances allows you to competently design the design of the room. So, you will need to carry out the following measurements:

  • Height width length. These are the main figures from which they will build on when developing the entire project. If the ceiling is inclined, then it is necessary to measure the angle of inclination and the height difference of the opposite walls.
  • Communication systems. Ventilation and exhaust hoods that do not plan to move should be measured and marked on the kitchen plan.
  • Appliances. We are talking about conventional units and built-in designs. If the equipment is already purchased or you plan to leave a part of the old one, then its location should be approximately outlined on the plan along with height, width and length.
  • Parameters of door and window openings without platbands facing the walls (if replaced). If the doors are swing type, then take into account the side in which they open and mark the "stock" for it.

Perhaps the most difficult corner kitchen is compared. In addition to standard measurements, it is necessary to check the perpendicularity of its walls. Also do not forget about sockets and switches. They should not be located close to windows, hob, sink. This takes into account the minimum permissible distance from the floor, the observance of which is necessary for safety reasons.Hinged cabinets must be placed on load-bearing walls, so take a place under them in advance.

Rules for the placement of furniture and appliances

When arranging furniture, they are primarily repelled by the peculiarities of the shape of the room and its dimensions. The main working area is the kitchen “triangle”: sink, refrigerator, hob. They should be located most conveniently, so that the hostess freely “flutters” from site to site without unnecessary gestures. The second nuance is the dining area in the kitchen-dining room. These two areas are related to the main ones, their location is a priority. The options for placing kitchen furniture taking into account the "working triangle" are as follows:

  • Linear Suitable for long, narrow rooms (usually less than 8 square meters). All furniture is located against one wall, leaving the opposite for a free trip. The rule of the "triangle" in such conditions is impossible to observe.

  • Parallel. It is used in narrow kitchens, but with the possibility of comfortable placement of furniture in two rows at opposite walls. At the same time, the hob and sink are installed on one side, and the refrigerator on the other. The result is the desired "triangle."

Parallel layout in the kitchen Kitchen furniture with integrated microwave TV on the wall in the working area Wallpaper with trees in the dining area Kitchen furniture with wooden countertops

  • U-shaped. A good option for kitchens of medium sizes (from 9 to 15 square meters). Furniture is installed along three walls, leaving the fourth free. The functional units of the "triangle" are located at different points in the kitchen.

  • L-shaped. The best option for spacious (up to 15 sq.m) rooms, rectangular. As a rule, two functional zones from the "triangle" are located near one wall, and the third - on the other. In the free corner put a dining table and chairs or sofa.

  • Island. An actual solution for very large kitchens (over 15 sq.m) Two sites are placed near one wall, and the third (usually a stove) is placed on a kind of “island” - a bar counter, combined with a work surface for cooking.

All types of layouts are based on the quadrature of the room. It is not recommended to embody your ideas in conditions that are not suitable for them initially.

Design and selection of the type of kitchen set

The kitchen is a large-scale design consisting of many individual elements. It includes:

  • Floor objects. This list includes cabinets, cabinets, stoves. Floor furniture makes up the “backbone”, the basis of the headset;
  • Hinged structures. Places for storage of open and closed type, which are mounted on the walls;
  • Mobile and freestanding furniture. It includes any mobile elements: tables, chairs, partitions. Mobile designs are essential for small kitchens. Freestanding objects usually do not move, but if necessary, there should be no problems with a change in location;
  • Pencil cases. Structures in which the width is much less than the height. Usually these are cabinets and other cabinet furniture for storing food and kitchen utensils.

Headsets are classified by performance material, color, shape, stylistic features. One-piece sets can be L-shaped or angular (sails), U-shaped, linear and parallel. From the names it becomes clear what layout each type of headset has.

Color selection

Restrictions on the color scheme in the kitchen exist only conditional. Do not recommend using an abundance of cold and dark shades:

  • Blue;
  • Blue;
  • Green;
  • Black;
  • Brown.

Kitchen in blue

These colors suppress appetite and can create an unfavorable atmosphere in the kitchen. If you beat the color composition correctly, then you can use the above shades, but with great care and observing the exact "dosages". The following are considered relevant for the premises:

  • Yellow;
  • Orange;
  • Pastel shades;
  • White;
  • Gray with a contrasting tone;
  • Red with moderate use.

Orange accents in the interior

Contrast kitchens, as a rule, look stylish and modern, but it should be borne in mind that such an atmosphere can quickly annoy the housewife and household. Pastel colors and neutral shades do not get boring so quickly. This is their main advantage.

The choice of lighting

Lighting is worked out in three directions at the same time:

  • Ceiling (central). In small kitchens, one, and in large two chandeliers, located above the areas of the room;
  • Work surface (local). Here we are talking about lighting above the stove, sink and the table at which they cook;
  • Around the room (additional interior). It is used exclusively "for beauty" to emphasize the dignity of design. Usually spotlights are used.

All lighting fixtures in the kitchen should be immune to hanging humidity and temperature changes. Get special sealed bulbs and insulate the wiring during repair work to avoid short circuiting.

The choice of building materials

To finish the kitchen you will need durable materials that are not afraid of water, detergents and sudden changes in temperature. For wall decoration use:

  • Tile. Ceramic tiles are durable and lack sensitivity to household chemicals and aggressive microclimate of the kitchen;
  • Wallpaper with a special coating (washable). Less durable material, but will appreciate a wide variety of textures and patterns on the surface;
  • Decorative plaster or paint. The budget option, which will have to be replaced with a fresh layer in a couple of years;
  • PVC panels. Thanks to the special production technology, modern plastic copes with the peculiarities of the kitchen atmosphere. Panel walls are only afraid of mechanical damage, but with the formation of breaks and cracks, one module is changed to another without analyzing the rest of the structure.

Tile on the kitchen floor

To cover the floor using ceramic tiles, linoleum, cork.The latter does not absorb moisture, but quickly gets dirty. It is not recommended to cover the surface with a laminate or parquet board. The first swells when moisture enters, and the second begins to rot. Bulk floor - heavy-duty, aesthetically beautiful and expensive material. It is used in the decoration of "top class" kitchens in luxury apartments. Gypsum (different levels), PVC, paint, plaster are used for the ceiling.

Beams in the interior

Particularly popular are suspended and suspended structures. They can be used when the centimeters “eaten up” by the structure from above will not affect the perception of the room.

Redesign project

A redevelopment project is essentially not much different from a regular “sketch”. The only thing to consider is the dismantling of the walls or their individual parts. On the plan, these places can be beautifully marked as empty, but in fact their absence can lead to disastrous consequences. Before you demolish something yourself, you need to prepare a project for future work. It is first given to architects who make adjustments and agree on a finished plan. Then you will have to go around a number of other instances (fire, sanitary service and management company). You will also need a package of documents for presentation to various authorities. All this redevelopment "whirlwind" can drag on for a long time. Have patience and time. Usually, combined projects include kitchen-living rooms and dining rooms. In the interior, it is worth considering not only the features of the new space, but also the zoning of the room, without which the picture will not look complete.

Layout of the kitchen-living room

Special advice on redevelopment can be provided by specialists of design bureaus online. They also turn to them for professional help in the preparation of the project.

Draw a drawing

Begin the drawing with a schematic sketch.Kitchen squares are quite rare, so most likely you will have to refine yourselves with rooms of complex shapes and turn their flaws into advantages. Now transfer the layout to a sheet of paper, indicate with dashes the location of windows and doors. Typical kitchens in Khrushchev, as a rule, have one opening for natural light, which can open onto a balcony. If the room is small, then perhaps you should think about demolishing the partitions and combining the two spaces. In two-room apartments and studios this disadvantage is solved by combining it with the next room (zone). For owners of country houses, the task is greatly simplified, since in this case the kitchens are usually spacious, and can fit not only the necessary “stuffing”, but also the dining area, designed for large companies. Then on the drawing of the room place "imaginary" furniture. They start with a headset, then a dining area for the kitchen-dining room, mark the location of accent areas and decor. The decoration of the room will be “polished” in the process. At this stage, only a conditional picture is enough. If the decoration of the rooms will be difficult using frame structures, then these nuances are also displayed on the drawing.

Conclusion

The kitchen is a special room where the hosts spend a third of the "home" time. This is a meeting place for the whole family for breakfast, lunch, dinner and unplanned tea parties. If guests come, in solemn occasions they are taken to the living room, but gatherings at the dining table in an informal setting become more comfortable. How to explain a similar phenomenon of kitchen "magnetism"? Perhaps a person "wakes up the memory of their ancestors", because earlier the hearth served as the conditional center of the home. It prepared food, warmed up on cold nights, gathered with the whole family, and whiled away time for leisurely conversations. In Russia, these rooms were called "cookbooks" or "cooking huts." The word "kitchen" for the Russian language is not native.It was adopted by the Germans in the Petrine era (from "küche" - a room for cooking). Modern kitchens are certainly not much similar to their previous counterparts, but the magic and inexplicable appeal remained the same.
