Provence style bedroom

Provence is a combination of romance, comfort, sentimentality, tenderness. The natural materials of muted shades used for decoration create a special energy in the bedroom, which is conducive to relaxation and rest. Floral motifs, cute trinkets, textile shades of lavender fields, sand and a wave of the sea, elements bearing the seal of time reproduce the atmosphere of rustic simplicity. The islet of peace, where it is pleasant to fall asleep and wake up, is formed by handmade items: pillows in a bouquet and a cage, vintage crafts, decoupage on furniture, bedspreads with frills and lace. Furniture facades with cracks, chips, wood showing through layers of colors complement the Provence-style bedroom. It is difficult to recreate an authentic French country in a modern apartment. To be convincing, you will have to give the surfaces traces of scuffing and decay, look for roughly hewn wooden beams, lay layers of paint on top of each other.In the bedroom, it is better to make a Provence style, evoke the necessary associations with pastel shades typical of the direction, decor, solid wooden bed, handmade bedspread. Such an elegant style-forming solution is suitable for those who want to protect the room from modern technology, for a few hours to forget about the frantic pace of life.

Features of style in the design of the bedroom

The main features of Provence are natural materials, plenty of light, antique styling. The room should not have plastic, synthetics, carpet. In a small apartment, the bedroom may be on the dark side. For the illusion of a brighter space, sky-blue and white shades are combined, they do not use massive curtains. In a country house, a large and bright room is chosen for the bedroom. Provence is not a minimalistic direction, it’s good if the room fits a bed with wrought iron inserts, a wardrobe, a chest of drawers, a wicker rocking chair. No need to buy expensive headsets with thread, an abundance of decor. It is enough to decorate furniture facades with decoupage, screen painting.

Used colors, examples of their application

The selected colors should calm, give the impression of serenity, the sunny sea coast.The color of dried grass, ash rose, lavender, mint is used in the design. The ceiling is painted in white, the floor in sand, mustard, smoky gray. The lighter the finishing material, the more harmonious it fits into the style. In combination with a snow-white ceiling surface, whitened boards look beautiful. The effect of "bleached oak" create a pigment composition or oil with wax. The walls are decorated in white, calm halftones of blue, pink, lilac. An interesting flavor of the Provencal bedroom is given by small inclusions of terracotta, lemon yellow, green, wine color, warm notes of ocher. The shades of “ivory”, gray-blue, light green, muted purple are successfully combined. The combination of milk, tan, green, and lilac tones looks more vivid.

White bedroom

The white palette is diverse, the more complex the subton, the more interesting it looks. Bright white color is associated with coolness. Soft and warm milky shade gives a feeling of calm and security. White gives the bedroom a Provence of nobility and vintage, in the morning it charges positive, in the evening it relaxes. The color is combined with wood, lace, linen textiles, all pastel shades. The room can be decorated completely in white: from the ceiling and floor to furniture and accessories. If the white bedroom seems boring and too simple, add bedside rugs, bedspreads, pillows of golden copper, pale blue, beige, light silver. Gray and blue accents make the interior austere and restrained. Lavender, pink, cream shades create a romantic atmosphere.

Do not choose textiles and furniture in white and gray. On the floor it looks perfect, but the facades, curtains, bedspreads will look like dirty.

Beige bedroom

Beige tones soothe, do not distract attention, have a positive effect on the psyche, combined with contrasting decor.Coloring does not conceal the space, suitable for small rooms. Beige shades vary in saturation. The bedroom in the French country style is decorated in cream, wheat, sand, fawn colors. So that the colors do not dissolve in each other, the bed is covered with a pink-beige bedspread. In Provence, beige is used in tandem with blue, lavender, lime, white. Against the backdrop of neutral beige walls, white and cream furniture, turquoise, yellow and purple accessories look beautiful. Curtains are chosen in the same color spectrum, but a darker or lighter shade. Monochrome surfaces are complemented with textiles interspersed with soft red, blue. For walls with ornament choose plain curtains.

Blue bedroom

The design in blue colors is universal, like men and women. Celestial and gray-blue tones visually expand the room, are combined with white, blue, beige. Dusty blue wallpapers and plaster fill with warmth, but narrow the walls. The room should have a large window or multi-level artificial lighting. Dark shades make the interior heavier and are used for accents. To make the room look harmonious, blue is combined with other colors.

The most successful options for a bedroom Provence:

  • furniture of a heavenly, gray, azure gray color combined with white surfaces, a bedspread, curtains;
  • similar colors, for example: blue, burnt blue, sea wave;
  • white walls, beige floor, blue, pink, gray, white print;
  • pale blue walls in combination with white, beige or blue-gray furniture.

Too much blueness in the bedroom depresses, inspires melancholy. Gloomy notes are compensated by snow-white curtains with hooks and ties.

Mint, olive, gray-green, pistachio colors stabilize the mood, fill the room with spring freshness. It is not necessary to complete the design of the bedroom in light green tones.The pale green walls are in harmony with the light brown floor, wardrobe and bed with a milky hue. A delicate olive bedroom set and more saturated curtains make up a single ensemble with white surfaces. Furniture is bought or painted in muted colors. To give brightness, choose wallpaper, curtains, bedspreads, lampshade, bedside rug with an ornament of a shade of summer greenery. Pastel-grass walls are combined with cream, lavender, coffee curtains. The white-olive interior brightens the room located on the north side.

Pink bedroom

A monochrome room in pink is quickly tired, even a romantic girl. For the French country, “burnt shades” are chosen: creamy pink, silver pink, pale lilac. When pink is combined with beige, milky, gray, olive color, a balance appears, the interior is not perceived as purely female. A combination of pink walls and white furniture is popular in the Provencal style. A little variegation is added by curtains with a floral ornament of the color of heather, pale greenery, burgundy, lavender. In the design of the bedroom, pink can be used as an extra. Successfully combined white furniture, light olive walls with pale pink textiles. The coral pink accent wall looks impressive against the background of cream and light gray surfaces.

Finishing materials

In Provencal interiors, brick, natural stone, wood, textured plaster are used. The effects of the aged surface create interior paint. Special compositions are intended for imitation of craquelure and patina on furniture, frames, accessories. Decorative paints and varnishes are applied on brick, cement, plaster, wooden substrates. To realize the Provence style, it is not necessary to create an impression of dilapidation on all materials.

Floor

Provencal style is emphasized by painted massive boards with cracks and scuffs, tight-fitting knots. In order to age hardwood with one’s own hands, the fibers are removed with a metal brush, the annual rings are exposed, and the glaze is applied. The process is time-consuming, but processing helps to achieve a pronounced pattern, to focus on the floor surface. Imitates an array of parquet brushed board. The authentic coating can be replaced with a textured laminate, stylized as a boardwalk with an aged texture.

Ceiling

The traditional ceiling finish is stucco. The texture with cracks and chips will convince the authenticity of the old interior. In the bedroom in the country house and in a private house, the color of the French country is created with sanded logs or decorative beams with elements of uneven processing. The apartment uses false beams, which are fastened with mounting glue. The second common option for finishing ceilings in cottages is lining with a lining or board. For Provence, they do not choose polished wood, they use slats with knots, resin pockets, notches.A thin layer of paint is applied to the surface, unobtrusive painting in the form of bouquets, flower rosettes. In the apartment you can move away from tradition, and install a matte stretch ceiling. A fabric with floral pastel shades will replace the plaster.

Bed and additional furniture

The bed should correspond to the canons of the French country - natural materials, lack of elaborate decor. Wood products look a bit bulky due to the high headboard. Elegant high legs, simple carvings, wooden mosaics, a modest foot balance the massive construction. The wrought-iron headboard with flowing lines, ornate patterns is in harmony with the Provencal style. The headboards of the old bed, to create a provincial flavor in the bedroom, are decorated with forged inserts and carved elements. Brown wood after processing with a small skin is repainted in the colors of Provence. In the small room, the massive bed is replaced by a folding sofa with a high rounded back. Upholstery is chosen from jacquard, tapestry fabrics with an opaque floral pattern, strip.

Lighting: a choice of lamps and chandeliers

The bedroom is a place of privacy, so the basic lighting should be soft and diffused. In antique Provencal chandeliers, glass shades are attached to a rectangular or round frame. Volumetric frames are decorated with openwork forging, winding vine. In combination with wooden beams, the luminaires emphasize the originality of Provence. Create intimate twilight fabric lampshades, laconic porcelain caps of trapezoidal shape. Chandeliers decorated with glass beads, crystal pendants and decorative candles scatter light and bring comfort. Small sconces, wrought-iron table lamps provide directional reading lights. A floor lamp with a wide lampshade, decorated with floral drawings, lace, small ruffles, allocates a relaxation area by the armchair.
