Scandinavian style bathroom: interior ideas

Scandinavian style bathroom

In recent years, the Scandinavian style has gained particular popularity among the design of rooms. People are tired of a heap of meaningless things and strive to equip their homes with the minimum necessary. This does not affect the quality of life, and the vacated space pleases the eye with elegant simplicity. Although this path is not the easiest and requires good taste and a sense of proportion. A Scandinavian-style bathroom is more than just painting the walls white and throwing a wooden mat on the floor. This is to think through every little thing for the sake of creating an overall picture.
The owners of small rooms have two ways: to fill their apartment to the eyeballs and maneuver between endless deposits of things, or to make the most of a small number of objects and let light and space into your life. A small Scandinavian-style bathroom not only looks beautiful and fashionable, but also expands the space with the help of visual “tricks” and the use of multifunctional furniture.

The main characteristics of the Scandinavian style

  • light colors with contrasting details;
  • an abundance of natural materials;
  • a lot of lines and geometry;
  • lack of complex, bulky parts;
  • large windows and plenty of natural light;
  • comfortable furniture and plumbing;
  • preference for unique things and needlework.

Work with color

We are used to decorating bathrooms in blue and white, which is probably due to the fact that this place is associated with cleanliness. Scandinavian style in the interior of the bathroom does not contradict this tradition. The main color of the design is white, it is a key background that helps to increase the space. Of course, you should not do everything in one color so as not to give the room the appearance of a hospital ward. White color is diluted with other colors of a natural shade: gray, blue, green. You can use warm colors: red, yellow and others, but in smaller quantities and you need to enter them very carefully so that they do not look like an absurd stain.
The room should look like a landscape outside a window in a distant snowy country. Using natural shades will allow you to create not a flashy contrast, but natural and natural, as if you looked out the window and noticed endless snow fields with gray sky, brown trees and blue water.

Finish

Scandinavian style involves the use of natural materials in the design of the room. But wood and stone are a very expensive investment, plus wood does not make good contact with water, so wood is not the best solution. But the stone here is more than appropriate and, if there is such an opportunity, then boldly use it in your decor.
The Scandinavian style is not a blind adherence to tradition, but above all convenience and functionality. So feel free to use the various achievements of building progress.
The materials that are used to decorate the bathroom should first of all be waterproof and easily tolerate temperature extremes.First of all, choose a coating that suits your price category and will have the above characteristics. It can be tile, laminate, or moisture-resistant plaster. Modern materials often imitate wood and stone surfaces. Try to find something similar and use for decoration. The combination of different types of textures looks especially impressive.

Plumbing

The main thing in the place for swimming is various plumbing. Here, too, the minimalist style continues. A bathtub, toilet bowl and washbasin - that’s all you have to do. They should be small, simple and strict. Ideally, completely change the bath to the shower. Faster, more convenient and takes up little space. In principle, pay attention to various ergonomic innovations. This is in line with the concept of Scandinavian style and makes the room comfortable. Plumbing should choose a traditional white color.

It is important that when buying components, one should not be original either. Conventional taps and brushed metal mixers for the shower perfectly complement the snow-white plumbing.

Furniture selection

Scandinavian-style bathroom furniture can save a lot of money. Especially when it comes to finishing the standard small combined bathroom, which are characteristic of our apartments. Wading to the place of bathing sideways, skirting endless lockers is not the best option. A good solution is a built-in wardrobe. Or a few simple shelves. Maximum lightweight cabinet from IKEA.
It will be better if the surface of the furniture is glossy to reflect light. And by the colors we choose something bright in the general tone.
As for materials, the Scandinavian style, of course, loves wood. But again, the high cost and humidity, unfavorable for the tree, are advised to abandon this in favor of something more unpretentious. Of the natural elements, you can recommend only a wicker laundry basket and a stool (if space permits) from a similar material.

Mirror Selection

A mirror is an essential element of any bathroom. For the Scandinavian style, it is best to choose the right shape mirrors, square or rectangular. The mirror should also continue the tradition of straight lines. The frame of this decor element should be unobtrusive and simple, made of light wood or plastic, or it is better to do without it at all.
Well, if space permits, use multiple mirror surfaces. A full-length mirror looks good. So we visually increase the space of a small room.

Lighting

A key characteristic of the Scandinavian style is a lot of light. In the Nordic countries of Europe, it is common for the bathroom to have a window, but this is rare in our country. Therefore, "pick up" the light will have artificial lights. This is a rather difficult task, not to overload the space, but to give enough light.

First, we use the built-in spotlights. They give a lot of light, but do not overload the space. It’s nice to add several wall-mounted models of strict shape to the ceiling lights. It is interesting to use glass fixtures that will refract light and spread an unobtrusive soft glow. Lamps will work in tandem with a mirror surface, and increase space.
Important tip, try to use light bulbs with warm light, because cold can make the room look too austere.

Details and trifles of decor

  1. Minimum of things
    There should not be random things for the sake of decoration. Minimum details and mostly useful accessories.
  2. Simple forms
    Scandinavians prefer simplicity. Therefore, all parts should be as simple as possible without unnecessary details.
  3. Hand made
    It is customary to decorate such interiors with handicrafts. Or bought things in this style. For example, knitted rugs, or a laundry basket.But the best thing is to make independent efforts and create a unique thing.
  4. Use of national patterns
    In the bathroom, you need to use patterns carefully so as not to overload the space, but nevertheless, the Scandinavian style is characterized by marine and national themes. You can dye towels in such a monogram to maintain the overall style.

bathroom accessories

Scandinavian style is the predominance of simplicity and convenience over luxury and excessiveness. Due to its simplicity and comfort, this style does not look meager or poor. It is suitable for everyone and can be used in any room. Thanks to various technologies, this style can be reproduced in various price categories, both in budget and in premium apartments. Such a decor, even when using the most expensive materials, will not look frankly rich and inappropriate.
