Do-it-yourself decorative well for a summer house

Decorative well

Fans of relaxation in a country estate, summer residents, beginner landscape designers will be interested to learn how to make a decorative well in their summer cottage, how to decorate it. Similar structures once existed in every yard, were fully functional. Now water supply is available almost everywhere, and wells with a variety of decor are becoming a wonderful element in the landscape design of the local area, its highlight. Before you put a well on the site, you should draw up a detailed plan where it will be located. If it is planned to independently produce this landscape element, then we still need a design scheme, a calculation of the total amount of materials for implementing the idea.

What is the decorative well used for?

These structures are most often used as the original decoration of the territory of the country house, but sometimes the decorative well has the following functions:

  • the well-house hides various utilities - sewer manholes, pipes, cables and more;
  • it has a well with drinking water;
  • barrels of water are hidden inside so that dirt and rubbish do not get into them;
  • used for storage of garden tools, tools;
  • it can be an original flowerbed;
  • if you put a bench nearby, you will get a kind of canopy from the sun;
  • the building is able to hide the flaws of the landscape.

The well should be well suited to the other design of the site, not be superfluous in it, not clutter up the space. The scenery surrounding it should create a single ensemble.

Design Options

Gardening firms sell a variety of prefabricated well designs. They are quite expensive, for the most part almost the same. If you order the production of a well on an individual project from a landscape designer, then the construction will be unique, ideally fitting into the interior of the garden, but excessively expensive. The best option is to choose or build a structure yourself.

The well may be:

  • in the form of a small carved house-tower;
  • with the "crane" and without a canopy;
  • in the form of a "Chinese" house with a tiled roof;
  • wicker high "nest";
  • with a small fountain;
  • in the form of a mill or a steamer.

The shape of this building is round, cylindrical, square, rectangular, hexagonal, asymmetric. Outwardly, it must correspond to other structures on the site - a house, a garage, a barn, a bathhouse, a chicken coop, and also be in a similar performance, from similar materials.

Materials used in the construction

The raw materials for the manufacture of a well bowl, with or without a canopy, select the most diverse:

  • A rock. Any stone structure looks monumental. The basis may be a ring of concrete - they are used in the construction of "real" wells. The structure can be made entirely of stones or with wooden elements. If you design it with bright colors, it will come out beautifully, in an original way. As cladding, colored pebbles of various shapes, including artificial ones, are used.

  • Tree. A wooden well for a summer cottage is easy to make yourself. Wood is an affordable material, easy to process, eco-friendly, durable. It is easiest to fit into the interior of the garden, and if you have wood carving skills, a small set of tools, then you can create a real miracle. Wooden buildings need protection from moisture, rot, mold, so they are covered with stains, varnishes, special paints. For work, logs, whetstones, rough boards, lining, branches and so on are used.

  • Brick. A decorative well made of red brick creates the effect of the old - it can even be designed accordingly. The construction turns out to be rather heavy, therefore it is advisable to fill the strip foundation before installation, otherwise the construction will eventually have a chance to skew or "go" deep into the ground. Instead of bricks, cinder blocks are also used, which are tiled.

  • Other materials. For the manufacture of the base, you can use any improvised items: unnecessary tires, after painting them, metal poles for racks. A small well is woven from vines, pine roots and even wire. For decoration, ceramic and glass mosaics, decorative plaster are used. An iron barrel, a plastic container, an old large pot are placed inside.The roof is made out of tiles, bitumen, the remains of ondulin, reed, bamboo, moss, metal, siding.

The space around the well is made of paving slabs, pebbles, decorated with potted plants, gypsum sculptures, carved "garden gnomes".

DIY workshop

There are very simple types of wells that even a child can do. But we will consider the step-by-step manufacture with our own hands of a wooden decorative well with six corners. Such as in the picture below.

Materials, tools, drawings

From the main raw materials, timber or boards are used. Details cut from them will need to be coated with special protective compounds, paying increased attention to the ends.

Of the tools required:

  • jigsaw;
  • saw;
  • chisels;
  • drill or screwdriver;
  • fasteners - pins and screws;
  • square and tape measure;
  • milling cutter.

To save time and material, it is desirable to make the most detailed drawing. Phased production according to pre-thought out instructions will go faster. Below is an approximate diagram of the well. Sizes and proportions can be any - it all depends on your imagination.

Bottom assembly

Wood materials are marked, leaving marks for grooves, according to the drawings. Saw the tree should be perpendicular to the fibers, and knock out the grooves in parallel, so that no burrs are formed. In the lower part of the well, slots on the lower and upper parts are made on the one hand, and on the rest - on the two so as to conveniently connect to each other. To ensure that the edges are beautifully crafted, chamfers are removed from the boards, as well as all that is superfluous, so that the joints do not have cracks. For rigidity of the head, one more board or beam is screwed to the upper part - a “collar” will be attached here. In places where they plan to mount the racks, grooves are cut out.

Racks and Roofing

Boards or bars, for the manufacture of racks, are marked with smooth transitions or geometric patterns - as you like.The contour is cut with a jigsaw, and if you apply the grinding nozzle to the drill, then the edges come out polished. Racks are fixed with self-tapping screws. Their upper part is sawn in the form of incomplete angles, the supports are fastened with jumpers with the help of wooden choppers.

The holes for screws and chop are drilled a little smaller in diameter so that the fasteners fit as tightly as possible. All roof elements: rafters, roof trims, retaining plate are sawed at an angle, in accordance with the drawing. Grooves are also made in the dome. The rafters are strengthened in pairs with glue. "Umbrella" is decorated with trims, it is better to start from the bottom, you can fix it with nails, bolts, screws. At the end, mount a decorative poppy.

Bucket and deck making

A deck is a round beam that is mounted on racks using wooden pins. A bucket is made of several dice of the same shape and size. Their ends are treated with glue, laid out horizontally, "face" up. So that there are no shifts, you can fix it with tape. Next, the workpiece is twisted with a cylinder, leaving to seize. Cut the bottom corresponding to the inner diameter of the ring, drill holes for fasteners. The resulting vessel can be further pulled together by two tin strips. The bucket is assembled - instead of handles there will be a decorative cord, a beautiful chain. How the deck and bucket individually look, see the picture below. Now the design is assembled together, it can be painted in any color, varnished.

If the well is relatively small and light, it is advisable to place it on a concrete base and fix it so that strong wind does not turn the structure upside down.

Decoration

Dressing a well, as well as its general appearance, should correspond to the style of a summer cottage. When a large part of the plot is occupied by a garden, a miniature kindergarten with a relaxation area and a rock garden is set up around a well.

Variants of stylistic design:

  • marine style - the tub or barrel with anchors on the sides plays the role of a mine, the helm with ropes takes the place of the handle-gate, the tiles around are made in the form of waves with sea foam. In the evening, the bluish backlight may turn on;

  • Chinese style - recalls the traditional architecture of China. A distinctive feature - the corners of the roof are bent up;
  • minimalist style - strict plain bowl made of concrete. Above it is an arch of steel, a bucket on a decorative cord. Around a smooth green lawn, a fence of a contrasting color;
  • antique style - concrete base with stucco, forged pillars and roof elements. There is a backlight on several sides;
  • medieval castle - artificially aged red brick, "antique" tile, natural stone, elements from colored stained glass;
  • rustic style - the well is made out in the form of a small mill, a flowerbed resembling a cart, a fence-wattle is located nearby. The roof is made of straw, moss.

Such design decisions look very interesting:

  • “Crane” - is made of raw wood, the base and bucket are painted with folk ornaments, pasted over with artificial flowers;
  • Russian Teremok - a carved house-well, resembling a tower. A skate on the roof, carvings of animals, next - a carved bench, if there is a pond nearby, then a wooden bridge with carved railings through it. Inside can be highlighted;
  • well-flower pot - the base is made of stones or wood. Racks and roof - made of curly snags, branches. The design is partially or fully braided with curly flowers;

  • a well-palm from garbage - two or three pre-decorated tires, stacked on top of each other, form the basis. The upper part is a tangle of plastic bottles: the racks are made of brown, and the roof is made of green. Nearby there may be a flowerbed with a bottle fence or figures of birds, also made of tires;
  • a building with a fountain or waterfall is usually a small purchase structure, built into the base on the site. Similarly, draw up a source of water of natural origin;
  • birch well - made from different thickness of logs with white-black bark, the bucket is also made from untreated birch. The building is used as a flower bed, a table with a canopy.

Conclusion

A decorative well may look as you like - its shape, size, design, purpose, choice of materials is limited only by imagination, the availability of funds from the owner of the cottage. Professional designers recommend using as much greenery and flowering plants as possible in the design of the site and the well itself, because the function of this decorative element is to deliver aesthetic pleasure to the owners and guests of the estate, decorating the garden.

Passion for design turned into work. There is little experience in the architectural bureau.
