Do-it-yourself BBQ

Brick grill

Barbecue - a special device on which you can cook kebabs, sausages and other dishes. These designs are simple metal and advanced (made of brick). The latter, with some exceptions, become stationary: for their construction, you need to draw up a plan, fill the foundation. The brick construction provides cooking on a level fire, unlike open equipment, where it is exposed to wind. The presence of walls facilitates the cooking process; their taste is different. To build a brazier of brick with your own hands, you need to take into account the relief of the site. You should carefully consider where it is better to place the structure - it will be stationary. Various enterprises provide services for the construction of brick braziers, sell ready-made modular structures. In any case, before you install something on the site, you need to carry out preparatory work.

Choosing a place for the construction of the barbecue

The design should not be dangerous for a residential building. Therefore, it is placed as far as possible and equipped with fire safety elements. Firewood must be stored in a closed chamber or at a sufficient distance from the barbecue, in a protected place. The building is located a few meters from the recreation area - summer kitchen, terrace or gazebo. To protect from rainfall over the barbecue can be erected a canopy. A table and several benches can be placed under it. If the site has a garden, flower beds or vegetable garden, then you will need to protect them from temperature effects: fruits and flowers will suffer in the first place. The brazier should be placed next to the path so that the approach to it is from two sides. Trash cans are also kept at a distance. Another important point is to study the windy environment in order to avoid smoke from entering the windows.

Advantages of Brick Braziers

The first obvious plus is the ability to store all accessories in one place. Another advantage is the variety of forms. Designs are made open and closed, simple and with additional extensions. In closed barbecues, the heat is distributed evenly, which allows you to cook dishes with perfect taste. A brick building can be equipped with a smoke collector - another advantage. In large structures there is also room for a stove, a cauldron and a smokehouse.All devices can be grouped using various sections and special shapes. The frypot is usually made closed, which eliminates the need for a canopy to protect it from rain. It is worth noting the safety of brick structures - they do not tip over. Brick barbecues are durable and require special care. There are even mobile versions that are quickly disassembled and, if necessary, are installed elsewhere.

Which brick is suitable for barbecue

It is better to finish the working area with refractory bricks. If the building will be used infrequently, then the usual red will do. The outer part of the structure can be finished with facing bricks - there are several different options for color and shape. Refractory material will help to keep warm, and this is useful for cooking on charcoal. In this case, the outer part of the structure can be made of clinker brick. Sometimes they choose an "aged" brick, then the building will look more interesting. Special kiln or fireclay bricks are used in the braziers themselves and in fireplaces, where the fire burns constantly. A dark shade indicates increased resistance to fire. Do not use silicate or ceramic bricks with voids. In order not to burden the structure, its walls are laid out with a hollow clinker. It is resistant to mechanical stress and temperature extremes.

In the material, not only resistance to high temperatures is important, but also durability.

Determine the size and configuration

Brazier height is selected depending on height. Orientation is on the tallest person in the family. The top of the working area is ideally 1 meter above the level of the wrist of the lowered hand. The width of the cooking zone is usually made no more than 1 meter, as nets for fish and meat and about a dozen skewers will fit in this gap. The optimal size is approximately 170 × 90 cm.If the owner prefers work while sitting, then the structure is made with a height of about 0.8-1.2 meters. Special sections for storing skewers, logs, coal and other accessories will be useful. It is recommended to provide a convenient place for dishes. Ideal equipment provides space for air and ash. The level of safety will increase the grill over the cooking zone. Barbecue can be used as a grill or barbecue.

Additional items for barbecue

The configuration of the brick barbecue must be used to install additional elements. If there are two or more stoves, then one of them can be equipped with a skewer for cooking meat dishes. On the territory near the barbecue there is a place for a hearth under the cauldron. Brazier plates are also suitable for boilers. On a ring-shaped stove, you can cook several dishes at once. Brick buildings should be equipped with at least one cutting table. But it is better to design several one- or two-tier surfaces. In mangal complexes, it is customary to distinguish several auxiliary compartments, including the lumberjack and the utensil area. It is better to make the firewood chamber closed so that the fire cannot get to the logs. It is necessary to find a place for niches for various baking accessories. It will be inconvenient to transfer items several times between different places, and the size of the building allows you to store everything in one place. It is worth taking this opportunity.

Necessary materials and tools

To calculate the required amount of materials, it is necessary to study all the nuances and take them into account in the project. You can make your own or choose among ready-made ones. In the process, it is recommended to observe a small margin. You will need such tools and devices as a circular saw, concrete mixer, bucket for mortars, construction level, trowel, shovel.The most suitable material for the formation of the structure is chamotte brick. It is durable and not “afraid” of temperature changes. Seams are made from a solution of sand with clay; no additional soaking is required. A barbecue street will need a solid foundation. The foundation is carried out using crushed stone, stones, reinforcement, planks for formwork or plywood, rubble, sand and cement. It will require a sheet of iron, valves, grilles and corners. For the working area and niches, metal doors and a stone countertop are required.

Construction stages of a barbecue of simple design

The process includes 4 main stages:

  • design;
  • foundation pouring;
  • bricklaying;
  • design clearance.

Brazier looks great in landscape design, but it is better to choose a place as distant from plants as possible. Then preparatory work follows. It is necessary to make drawings, decide on the final project and prepare the necessary devices. It will require crates, rubble stone, sand, cement, reinforcement, gravel, refractory bricks. For a beautiful design of the seams you will need a stitching. Further work begins with digging a hole of the right size, shape and depth. The foundation is laid in it. Then the cement-sand mixture is left to harden. On the Internet you can find a sufficient number of drawings of bricklaying. They will be needed for the next stage of work. After every 2-3 rows, the design is checked by the building level for the presence of a slope. The final stage of work begins with finishing with facing materials. Then the finished building is designed and equipped with the necessary accessories.

Foundation pouring

First, a pit breaks out in accordance with the dimensions of the designed structure. The bottom is laid out with rubble and rubble stone. Then set the formwork. If the size of the pit is small, and its walls do not have a slope, then you can do without it.Cement and sand are mixed in a ratio of 3: 1. The resulting mixture is poured into the pit in several layers with alternately laying the mesh of reinforcing bars. The bottom layer of reinforcement is installed so that there is no contact with the bottom. The foundation is covered with a film or roofing material. In hot weather, the surface dries unevenly, so it is sprayed with water from time to time. After one to two weeks, bricks are placed on perfectly dry concrete. During this time, a solution is prepared. The perfect mixture of properties resembles thick sour cream. If you roll it into a strip, it will not spread and will retain its shape.

Bricklaying

One of the easiest masonry methods is to shift each subsequent row half a brick to the side. The base is laid out from the corners to the central part, along the drawn lines. Every three new rows are checked with a building level. The first two are made solid. The height of the base is selected individually. In the process of erecting a barbecue, sections are created for kitchen utensils, coal, firewood. The firebox is laid out after these chambers. The place for frying is made of brick or a pre-prepared concrete base. In most cases, the firebox is made in the form of an arch. During work, an arc of bricks is supported by a circle. The necessary clearance between the elements is 1 cm. The firebox is covered with a corner or beam. Small cracks are left near the frypot so that burning is better. At the end, a smoke box and wind walls are made. A small visor is mounted above the pipe to protect it from rain. A large wall and smoke box are not required.

Shortly before laying, each brick must be lowered into the water for half a minute so that they do not take moisture from the clay solution.

Chimney device

The pipe should not be too narrow. The cross section of a brick hood, ideally, is at least 25 cm, and in the case of a metal hood, at least 15 cm. The traction force depends on the length of the chimney.The upper part of the pipe is placed at a height of three meters above the ground. Accordingly, this affects the length of the chimney - and the larger it is, the better. Long pipes have better aerodynamic properties. For construction, only refractory materials are suitable. It is not recommended to use asbestos cement: due to inhaled smoke, dangerous compounds can enter the body. If you choose a material such as metal, the design will be thinner and lighter. But such a chimney will need to be protected from corrosion, and the service life will be short, when compared with pipes made of refractory bricks. The drawback of brick hoods is a more complex and lengthy construction.
If you need to make a metal chimney with your own hands, then such devices will be required:

  • welding machine;
  • riveter;
  • drill;
  • rivets and screws;
  • corners;
  • steel sheet.

The construction of the furnace complex

This is a universal device for frying dishes with several fireboxes. The design must have a solid base. In the central part, several cooking zones are being designed. Along the edges should be placed on one large countertop. The stoves can also be used for cooking on a flat surface. The central chamber should be equipped to accommodate the grilles, and traditional Russian stoves are best done from the side. The first stage of construction is digging a pit. Then a sand cushion is created. It is covered with a layer of rubble, twice or three times more than sand. Since the object will be large, the foundation needs to be “left” for 2-3 weeks for complete solidification. It must be watered with a little water from time to time. The main stage is the laying of bricks. The stoves are distinguished by 4 columns or 3 walls, except the front. The process of erecting several stoves is more complicated than a conventional design with one frypot and additional sections.

BBQ with smokehouse

To create a smokehouse, you need a lid to hold smoke. There are several ways to make it. There are retractable models, removable, folding with one element, as well as consisting of two halves. The size of the legs can be different, this parameter can be selected depending on the size of the structure. Brick smokehouse has an advantage: it is possible to create several chambers and chimneys. It is preferable to create several smokehouses in one large structure, so that later you do not have to think about creating another stationary building. The main elements of a brick grill with a smokehouse are a chimney, a combustion chamber and the hearth with a smoke chamber. The smoking compartment is made under the barbecue, with access to the chimney - as a result, part of the smoke remains below. The single structure has a relatively small width.

Brick barbecue

The main difference between barbecue and barbecue is the use of skewers. The barbecue machine has only a grill. It differs from the usual grill by the absence of skewers, and from the grill - by the absence of a lid. Even an inexperienced person can build a small brick oven-barbecue. With this device you can fry fish, meat and vegetables, as well as smoke fish and meat dishes. The presence of the rear surface contributes to a more even distribution of heat. Burning in a barbecue machine takes place in a firebox. This principle of operation allows you to switch to cooking a new dish at any time, because after cooking the temperature will remain high for a long time. On cold spring evenings, barbecue can be used as a source of heat. Therefore, it is better to put it next to the gazebo or near the summer playground. You need to place a brick barbecue away from trees and bushes.

When arranging a brick barbecue, you should think about such devices:

  • hob;
  • smoke chamber for cooking smoked meats;
  • niche for a cauldron;
  • enlarged firebox.

We build a canopy over the barbecue

It is recommended to install a canopy over the building. It is necessary to immediately decide whether it will be placed on a large area or just above the barbecue. It will take at least three supports, and ideally at least six. The material used is metal or wood. A concrete base is formed under the pillars. The minimum permissible distance between the barbecue and the wooden post is 16 cm. The roof can be made of any material used to finish the roofs of houses. The brazier will fit well into the general ensemble of a summer cottage, if the canopy over it is equipped in the same way as the roof of the house. The installation process for the canopy is relatively quick and uncomplicated. The color of the roof is matched to the shade of the roof of the apartment building, the color of grass or the shade of brick from which the barbecue is built. You can finish the canopy with any roofing material, regardless of the angle of inclination.

Features of the construction of the barbecue in the gazebo

It will not work to dig a hole for the foundation. If the brazier is needed in the gazebo, it will be easier to order the finished product with subsequent installation. There are enough companies on the market engaged in field work on land plots. But there are several other options. You can make a brazier with your own hands or purchase a prefabricated model. Such products are assembled from several large blocks of concrete. For them, you do not need to dig a hole under the base, but to install a sufficiently fireproof plate in the arbor itself. However, this building can be built simultaneously with the barbecue. Given the standard height of the gazebos, you will need to arrange a place for smoke extraction - the pipe is mounted so that it goes outside the building. If desired, the chimney can be carried out through the top. The site is supplied with electricity and water. Surfaces in the gazebo must be protected from temperature effects, especially the floor.
If the gazebo is being built at the same time as the barbecue, then for its construction will come in handy:

  1. Refractory brick.
  2. Metal.

Decorative finish

The brazier will be in a prominent place, so you should pay attention to its design. Natural stone is relevant in modern design, but it is still better to choose facing materials for decoration. Among them, one can distinguish artificial stone, panels, gypsum tiles imitating bricks. Brazier is equipped with shelves for artificial plants and decorative elements. Forged parts of various shapes are installed on the structure. Brazier should be equipped with hooks for kitchen utensils. You can experiment with the appearance of the canopy - the decor of the brazier itself on the site will not be as clearly visible as the roof over it. At the discretion of the owner, a chimney and various sections are decorated. They can be decorated under the "antiquity". Do not forget about the arrangement of the entire zone: you will need a boiler and several types of cooking racks.

Conclusion

Mangal zone is a traditional resting place in the country. In the summer, they spend several hours a day there. In the mangal complexes barbecue, steaks, sausages and other baked and smoked dishes of fish, poultry, meat and vegetables are prepared. That is why it is worth considering the type and shape of the structure. An ordinary barbecue is exposed to the wind to a greater extent than a multi-tiered brick. Additional extensions are useful for storing kitchen utensils and coal. As a result, a large amount of time is saved: you do not need to transfer everything from one place to another. Large structures can have several stoves, many additional chambers for coal and firewood. Creating a brick grill on your own is a long and difficult task. A beginner can make a small building, but for the design and construction of a multifunctional structure, it will be necessary to invite a specialist.
