How high to hang the TV on the wall in the living room, bedroom and kitchen

How high to hang the TV

A television screen is an integral attribute of the vast majority of modern interiors familiar to humans. It is the decoration of the room, its semantic center, from which everything else “dances”. The choice at what height to hang the TV depends on the style of the interior, the size of the room and the diagonal of the TV, the material of manufacture and the height of the walls.

Recommendations for choosing a place for the TV

Previously, the role of the “blue screen” was played by a massive structure with a solid weight, requiring a sufficiently strong, stable floor stand, a massive stand.Modern plasma or LCD televisions are easy to place on a small bedside table, a narrow console, and it is better to hang the ceiling in the most convenient place for viewing using the bracket directly on the wall.

The largest screens are placed in spacious living rooms - there is enough space to watch it with the whole family or in the company of friends, equipped with a "home theater". Smaller ones are suitable for short-term viewing of television programs in the hallway, bathroom, cramped kitchen.

Sometimes, with a lack of space on the wall, it is permissible to suspend the TV panel on the ceiling, while the design can be height-adjustable, folding, which significantly saves space in a small room. This option is suitable for the original zoning of the space, but the placement should be carefully considered: the main ways of moving around the apartment should not go past the screen - this is extremely inconvenient. Additional reinforcement of the base is necessary here, especially when it comes to heavy structures and plasterboard ceilings.

Methods, types of fasteners

You can hang the TV on the wall or on the ceiling. Small screens with a diagonal of 26-28 inches are suitable for inclined brackets, with which it is easy to change the angle of rotation, and if necessary, remove glare. Panels with a diagonal of 14-27 inches are mounted on movable holders, which allows you to adjust not only the tilt, but also the height of the suspension.

For a product with a diagonal of 30-45 inches, low-profile fasteners are used, allowing you to slightly move the screen from side to side. When using swivel mounts, it is possible to move the TV away from the wall for better air exchange in the hot season, which will not allow the device to overheat.

If the diagonal of the TV panel reaches 63-66 inches, then simultaneously with its suspension, the adapter is mounted.The panel can be installed on the profile, and mounted only later - this is especially recommended for large-format screens with a weight of more than 70 kg.

It is advisable to purchase suitable fasteners when purchasing a TV, depending on the material of the walls. For concrete, brick or completely wooden, you need to buy dowels, when mounted on drywall - "butterflies", "snails", self-tapping screws. Of other materials, tools, a perforator, pencil, building level, bracket, bolts, screwdriver will be required.

Before you mount the brackets, you should make sure that it is in this place of the wall that the wiring does not pass.

General guidelines for mounting height

The standard height of the television device is one meter from the floor to the bottom edge. This is the best option if the panel will stand on a stand, but on the wall it can be placed a little higher. To fix too high is not worth it - if the audience has to constantly lift their heads, their neck will constantly get tired.

Normally, the middle of the screen should be approximately at the level of the viewer's eyes. At a height of one and a half meters or more, TVs are placed where they rarely watch - in the hallway, bathroom, and kitchen. In interiors made in oriental style, it is understood that the seating, lying down will be below the standard - it is also permissible to suspend the TV screen at an appropriate level. High - at the level of 150-170 cm, the TV screen is suspended in the cramped rooms of the kitchen, bathroom, where only a short viewing is supposed.

Installation height

When choosing a height for mounting a television screen in a particular room, one should be guided, first of all, by the individual preferences of family members, based on their height, age, and lifestyle.

Features of installation in different rooms

The ergonomics of the location of the TV in various rooms is such that no matter what room it is in, it should be a place where no one touches the structure, accidentally knocking over, smashing. It is advisable to hide all the wires in such a way as to catch on, it was impossible to trip over them.In wet, hot bathrooms, combined bathrooms, showers, saunas, mini-pools, TVs are rarely mounted - only with sufficient ventilation, which reduces the likelihood of moisture damage to the device.

The number of televisions in a single apartment is not limited by anything - they can be any number, depending on the number of residents, individual rooms. It is important that nothing interferes with the viewing - the screen should not partially overlap with the cabinet, the high back of the sofa, the angle of the screen, etc.

TV in the interior of the room

In the living room

In the hall, the television screen acts as a functional decor that organically fits into any interior style. It is decorated with a decorative frame, as if it were a picture, surrounded by smaller pictures - in this case, the mount will be stationary, it will not work to change the angle of inclination. The larger the room, the larger the screen is purchased for it - a very small one in a spacious living room will look poor, giving the impression that something is missing.

In the space of the hall, people spend a lot of time watching television with the whole family or with friends, because the screen should be clearly visible from different points. If they watch it while sitting on the sofa, the height of the suspension will be less, if, due to the dining table, it will be a little more. The recommended location of the midpoint of the screen is 110-159 cm from the floor.

When there is a real or electric fireplace in the hall, which plays the role of a heater, you should not mount a TV over it, nor should you place the screen in places where sunlight often falls.

In the kitchen

The TV screen for the kitchen is usually chosen small, since most of the free space is most often occupied by cabinets, open shelves, other storage places. It is important to know that even with a critical lack of wall space, it is not recommended to put the TV on the refrigerator, since the vibration of the latter will quickly damage the TV.The kitchen set should not block the screen - it should be convenient to watch, being both in the working and in the dining area. Often the TV panel is hung here in the dining area above the table, opposite it, and if the kitchen is intended only for cooking - at the height of a person’s height, for the convenience of short-term viewing standing.

The location of the TV near a gas or electric stove is prohibited - high temperatures adversely affect an expensive device, leading to overheating, fire.

In the bedroom

In the bedroom, the TV is usually watched lying or sitting in bed, because they place it opposite the head of the bed, if the bed is in the corner, then diagonally from it. The sleeping TV screen is hung at a level corresponding to the height of the bed: for the usual this height is about a meter, for a structure with a podium - within one and a half, opposite the attic bed, the device will be located two or three or more meters from the floor.

The bedroom is equipped with a panel on a height-adjustable bracket so that it is convenient to watch it both sitting and lying down.

In the nursery

Many experts do not recommend placing the TV in the children's room, but with controlled viewing, its presence is quite acceptable. It is important to place the screen so that when viewing from the seat to its plane there are at least three to four diagonals. In a cramped bedroom, the TV screen is mounted opposite the bed to watch it sitting, lying down. A larger room provides a separate viewing area.

The TV panel in the nursery is mounted so that the kids do not break it during outdoor games, and all the wires are carefully hidden.

In bathroom

In the bathroom, the television panel is installed at the maximum distance from water sources, but at a low height. All wires should be hidden inside the rubber cable channels. On sale sometimes there are special expensive, but very moisture resistant models that are easy to place directly at the foot of the bath - above the water itself and view during the bathing process.The material of the case, all fasteners, as well as the control panel, must have anti-corrosion protection, and the product itself must be wireless.

The large flat blue screen is perfect for hi-tech and industrial bathrooms.

In the office

The office is equipped, first of all, for business, rather than entertainment. But there is a place for TV here. It is placed in any convenient place opposite the soft sofa, on the side of the desktop, so that you can watch while sitting on a swivel chair, armchair. Sections for storing business papers, books, special literature, and disks are placed here on both sides of the television screen. It is not recommended to place office equipment in the immediate vicinity of the screen.

Features of mounting to a drywall

For high-quality installation of a TV panel on a wall from gypsum board, butterfly dowels are required, which create the most reliable fastening. When hanging the TV on a plasterboard partition, it is recommended to install additional metal support racks - from the ceiling to the floor. To make the design look harmonious, these details are decorated. Products weighing more than 30 kg are not recommended to be hung on gypsum board, but if nevertheless a need arose, the wall is additionally reinforced with plywood sheets.

It is important to determine the location of the TV in advance in order to carefully lay the wiring, which is hidden or open. The closed version is optimal if small children and pets live in the apartment, who are able to try an electric cable to the tooth. Open suggests that the wires are attached to the wall with special brackets - this design is welcome in the loft style interiors, but completely inappropriate in the classic.

There are only two ways to attach the panel:

  • in the first case, the fasteners are attached to the TV itself, and then the entire structure is mounted on the wall;
  • the second option - marking is applied to the wall, the dowels are screwed in, the bracket is hung on which the panel itself is fixed.

Three or four outlets should be made behind the surface of the screen - usually an acoustic system, a DVD player, etc. are connected to them.

When mounting on a swivel bracket, it is important to make the wire so long that in any position it does not stretch to the limit.

Plasterboard TV

Useful recommendations of specialists

Professionals who are engaged in the installation of suspended structures daily give the following tips on the competent fixing of the TV on the wall or ceiling:

  • in the brick wall, the holes for fasteners are made with a puncher and a drill for concrete, wooden or plasterboard is treated with a drill on wood;
  • heavy TV screen weighing 20-30 kg, it is better to hang together, as there is a risk of accidentally dropping it;
  • Before you start fixing the TV, you should evaluate whether the wall is able to support its weight, whether the structure will collapse;
  • cable connections are made only after installation is completed;
  • it is forbidden to integrate the panel into hermetically sealed spaces (cabinets, wall niches) - there are always ventilation holes on the back wall through which air must circulate freely;
  • the wire going to the outlet should not be excessively stretched - this can lead to its breakage, fire;
  • decorate the wall where the telephoto is located is permissible in any way - it should not seem empty. For the accompanying device audio equipment, special fasteners or hinged shelves are purchased.
