Hallway in a classic style

The design of the hallway in a classic style

The very first room where the owners, guests of the house fall, is the hall. They remove, store outerwear, shoes, comb their hair, apply makeup before going out. The original design of the hallway in the classical style has always been popular - it is “timeless”, despite the abundance of modern solutions. This direction is very diverse - from very ancient antiquity to the "Soviet" discreet interior of the mid-twentieth century.

Depending on the size of the space, the amount of finances, the owner’s imagination, the desired decoration is created in the interior - from the simplest, most concise, to the luxurious, “palace”. The abundance of decor in the modern world is considered not fashionable, little practical. About the nuances of decorating the hallway, its classic arrangement, finishes, furniture, lighting is described in this article.

Basic principles for decorating the hallway

Traditionally, the front is located immediately behind the front door. By the nature of the arrangement, it happens to be “masculine”, associated with strict clear lines, rude, brutal forms, and “feminine” - personifying smooth contours, grace. Designers recommend carefully combining both options.

When decorating the hall you need to consider:

  • there is everything you need - a hanger, a mirror, a shelf for shoes, etc .;
  • functionality - convenience of swelling-undressing;
  • the room usually does not have windows, therefore it is important to consider options for artificial lighting;
  • it should not be excessively cluttered;
  • in the autumn-winter period it is useful to use decorative dirt-retaining rugs;
  • the corridor is equipped in the same style as the rest of the apartment.

If there are windows, they are draped with spectacular curtains, tapestries, which must certainly look expensive, made from natural fabrics. In parallel, transparent organza curtains are used.

Features of the design of the hallway in a classic style

The classical direction of the front dress design implies light, pastel colors. Vivid accents are available in small numbers on draperies, in the design of furniture, paintings on the walls. All colors are preferred warm. Symmetry is another important feature of style. If possible, it should be adhered to as much as possible: ornaments, architectural elements, decorative sculptures, furniture should be placed symmetrically.

The design of the hallway in a classic style

Modern technology has given rise to the neoclassical style - elements of antiquity are combined in it with geometric shapes, clear silhouettes, stucco molding - with modern decoration materials, paintings in gilded frames - with mother-of-pearl inlay.

Materials and methods of decoration

Finishing materials are preferable natural or high-quality imitation - natural wood, veneer, light marble, white wallpaper with a complex texture, ornaments made of artificial stone in several places. If the room is spacious enough, it can be zoned using various colors and textures of walls, floors, and ceilings. Zoning is carried out with the maximum compliance with the rules of symmetry. In a two-level apartment, a wooden staircase with carved railings leads from the hall to the second floor, often it is covered with a carpet. Under the stairs is a wardrobe or a whole dressing room, separated from the hallway by a mirror, a screen.

Floor

The floors are combined in color with the walls and ceiling. Parquet "herringbone" or in rows, a well-crafted floorboard, mosaics of various types of wood, marble, granite - the best solutions for luxurious classics. Such coatings are expensive, but very durable. For cheaper options, a laminate is used, mainly light - white, yellow, pink-ocher, pale brown. Floor tiles are laid in a “checkerboard” or in the form of various patterns with central, mirror symmetry. On the floor are often sculptures "antique", stone vases, paths, carpets with floral patterns. The presence of podiums here is highly appreciated.

Walls

The materials for the design of vertical surfaces are different - paint, wallpaper, MDF wall panels. In “expensive” interiors, natural varnished wood, veneer inlay, wall upholstery with fine fabrics with fine patterns, and natural stone are used. A mandatory element is a mirror, often framed with wood carvings, gypsum or polyurethane pilasters. If space permits, a fireplace is created on one of the walls - it can be a shelf located in the center of the hallway, from below which an image of the hearth with a pot is laid out with decorative stone, a carved or brick false fireplace is mounted.It can also be located in a niche, creating a unique cosiness of the front door.

Ceiling

The ceilings in the classic hallway are decorated with gypsum stucco, including gilded, its plastic imitation, voluminous baseboards, ceiling tiles. All elements located on this plane must be symmetrical. In a long corridor at an equal distance from each other, two or three or more identical lamps are hung in the midline of the ceiling. Multilevel suspended ceilings look good, strictly white, almond, beige shades. If there is one chandelier in the room, its base is decorated with a volumetric rosette made of stucco, imitation of polyurethane. Many spotlights are designed with smaller outlets.

Color schemes

The classicism interior is designed mainly in light, warm colors. Textile materials are present in the hall like floor carpets, walkways, curtains, bedspreads with small pile on the furniture for seating. They are preferably taken a couple of tones darker than the walls, the floor. Intricate floral ornaments, fantasy patterns will add to the decoration of nobility.
Green color is present exclusively in the form of "living" plants in flowerpots or their imitation of fabric, polymers. The red-brown classic interior is replete with lacquered wood details. Gilding, bronzing, decorative “aging” of objects is used quite often. In this style, dark blue, deep green, chestnut, slate, coffee, gray-coal colors are appropriate.

The furniture is preferred white, beige, dark chocolate. Dark objects contrast with light walls, floors made of natural wood, stone. Mosaic patterns on the floor can also be contrasting - black and red squares on a white background, golden-orange curls on a dark brown.

Ceramic tiles on the floor

There should be almost no sharp contrasts in interiors of the “classic” type - the room is decorated in calm, low-key colors, in compliance with a single system.

Lighting

Front lighting is of utmost importance.There should be enough light in order to dress, put on shoes, put your hair in order, and if necessary, apply makeup. The amount of light doubles when there is a large wall mirror in which light sources are reflected. The make-up mirror with LED bulbs on the contour looks original and modern - its shape, design should be selected especially carefully, otherwise this element will be completely “knocked out” of the overall style.

Classical style hallway lighting

Volumetric crystal chandelier will become an expensive "highlight" of a large square room. The main thing is to fix it strictly in the center. Additional lighting is located around the perimeter of the ceiling of the hall - it looks especially good if it is multi-level. If there is a sconce stylized as candelabra with candles, it should also correspond to the general style.

Any kind of floor lamps for the classic hallway is not recommended.

Furniture selection and placement

It is not worth it to clutter up the corridor with furniture, especially if it is narrow, small - there should be only the most necessary things. If elderly people, small children live in the apartment, then they put a sofa, a high chair and a pouffe in the hallway, put it on, remove street shoes for these categories of the population, it can be problematic.

Of the furnishings needed:

  • wardrobe for clothes, shoes - it is sometimes replaced with an open hanger;
  • shelves of various configurations;
  • a mirror - preferably in full growth, with illumination directly above it;
  • chest of drawers, bedside table for storing small items;
  • compact sofa, armchair or several chairs.

Furniture is selected in natural colors; it often has curly legs. The ideal material is an array of pine, cherry, maple, ash, oak, walnut, mahogany, ebony. Soft parts are made of leather, its substitutes, patterned fabrics, mainly natural shades, velvet, velor. This finish looks very representative.A pair of lightweight rattan wicker chairs accentuate naturalness, revitalizing the austere interior with an ethnic element.

Orchids on the nightstands

Many manufacturers sell furniture for the front door immediately sets. Such a set includes a long tall wardrobe, where they hang outer clothing and put shoes on. There are also many drawers, shelves for various little things - gloves, umbrellas, hats. The mirror can be located on the inner, outer surface of the cabinet door. The soft corner is built in or placed separately.

Decorative details

Original decorative fittings also pay attention. Stucco molding, columns, curly door handles, “bronze” switches, leather door upholstery create a special atmosphere of a nostalgic past. Pictures, photographs on the walls in the classic interior are not welcome, but if they are, they should be the same in size, placed strictly symmetrically. Most often these are reproductions of the masterpieces of famous artists.

The decor in the hallway in a classic style

Carved elements of furniture, wall cladding, and ceiling give the room a finished look. Wooden, clay, bone, bronze, porcelain figurines "antique" on the shelves emphasize the classic style. Openwork carving can be used to decorate the partition that separates the hallway from the living room. Decorative hooks on which to hang an umbrella, a key, a hat and so on must correspond to the style of the hall. Frosted white or dark glass in the interior doors goes well with frosted shades on chandeliers, sconces.

Small hallway in a classic style

A tight hallway can also be beautiful, stylish, unique, although the classics in such a front look very modest. To make the small room seem as spacious as possible, it is decorated in bright colors, decorating one or two vertical surfaces with large mirrors. The abundance of glass, light, a minimum of excess objects will help visually expand the corridor.

The depth of the cabinets here is preferable not more than 40-45 cm, they can have sliding mirrored doors, if the chosen direction is neoclassicism. Upholstered furniture should also be small-sized, always selected in one manner. The small front is designed to be convenient for cleaning, so that dirt from the street does not rush into the apartment. The flooring is better to choose light, and from stucco on the ceiling, walls should generally be abandoned.

Small hallway in a classic style

This version of classicism, like baroque, is not suitable for a small area - it is always performed with a "royal" scale, having a huge amount of voluminous decor. It is not forbidden to use baroque elements - a mirror with an ornate pattern on a gilded frame, a banquet covered in velvet, and a small crystal chandelier. From the Empire style, you can borrow a floor carpet with fringe, and Rococo is used in cases where it is impossible to maintain symmetry.

Conclusion

The traditional style of decoration of the corridor and other rooms of a modern apartment will remain relevant for many years. The scope of designer imagination is huge. Modest decoration in bright colors is perfect for a small entrance hall, larger, expensive, colorful - spacious. Everyone can develop an original design project on their own, make repairs with their own hands. If this is problematic, specialists will come to the rescue who will not only depict the room in the “three de”, but will also select suitable materials, furniture, decorative components, in accordance with the wishes of the customer and the available budget.
