Standard sizes of shower cabins: standard and optimal sizes

Dimensions of showers

Someone takes 10 minutes to wash, while others spend more than an hour a day in the bathroom. The first case, combined with the limitations of the bathroom, is a good reason to use a shower, not a bath. Large and convenient plumbing is rarely disposed of, but in the initial planning, some people choose a vertical cabin. Especially for the second category, a tropical and ceiling shower was invented. In the first version, water falls from above, and in the second - in the same way, but from the ceiling itself. In modern showers, there are many technological details: backlight, loudspeaker, openings for hydromassage. They also offer models with seats. They buy showers in the bathrooms, the sizes and shapes of which “work” for ergonomics and space saving. There is plenty to choose from on the market, and the price range is very flexible.

Advantages and disadvantages of showers

All the pros and cons can be contrasted with the parameters of the bathtubs. The shower stall is primarily the “preservation” of square meters, protection against splashes and additional options for vertical washing. In addition, the consumer receives financial savings. Shower is sometimes used in conjunction with a font. Add a shower will be much easier than finding a place for a bath in the bathroom, which already has a shower. Hydroboxes are equipped with advanced technological devices, and showers with a bowl are, in principle, a complete replacement for the bath.

Interior with shower

The disadvantages of most cabins are the same. The first step is to talk about cramped and inability to take a horizontal position. Large models with a shallow or deep base have other disadvantages. They do not save space, but are many times more expensive than simple fonts. The condition of shower plumbing deteriorates much faster than that of bathtubs.

The main components of the shower

The plumbing has internal filling and the main frame of the pallet, walls and doors. The joining method affects the strength and tightness, and the way the shutters move - on the convenience and compactness. Contact between the doors is provided by rubber seals. Individual variations are collected without a back wall. They cost less, but cause additional difficulties.Cabins come in including complex curved shapes. Their walls may not have a suture connection and smoothly move in another direction. Only a limited number of cabins have a roof. It is definitely better with it, because in this way water will not get on the ceiling and walls. Spacious multi-functional models make closed more often. Shower plumbing is equipped with control panels, top water supply, devices for water procedures, and sometimes small openings for ventilation and fans.

Pallet: shape, material and dimensions

Buyers see a wide variety of shapes on the market: rectangular, square, oval, round, angular, semicircular, multifaceted. More original bases are also made, such as shells, snails and leaves. They also sell showers with multi-level trays. Among other things, the bases are divided into 3 categories - from low with a side height of 4.5 cm to high with a rate of up to 18 cm and more.

The sides of the pallets reach 130 cm in length, with a minimum of 70 cm. The most widely used are models with side and height parameters of 1000 × 1000 × 140 mm, 900 × 900 × 70 and 900 × 900 × 50 mm.

The base material used is metal, acrylic and ceramics. Cast iron and steel products have largely different characteristics, and acrylic options are something in between. They also produce ceramic products: porcelain, earthenware, etc. Original and presentable models are made of stone. Acrylic pallets are considered the best in terms of quality.

Walls

Side surfaces are symmetrical and asymmetric, even and curved. Simple wall designs usually have two or three, and these options have another side in the form of a door / s. The width of ordinary walls is 70, 80, 90, 100 cm, and in large models - from 110 to 140-150, also with an interval of 10 cm. Non-standard ones differ in the same difference, but have a width of 75, 85, 95, etc. Manufacturers among non-standard parameters prefer the size of 85 cm.The width of the elongated walls corresponds to the typical lengths of the bathtubs: from 120 to 200 cm with a difference of 10 cm. The most popular sizes are 120, 140, 160 and 170 cm. A width with a non-rounded value like 93 or 103 cm is ordered if it is a miniature layout section of the room. The height is from 190 to 230 cm with an interval of 5 cm. Optimal indicators are considered to be in the range of 210-225 cm, but higher models are better in practice.

Doors: types of structures and their sizes

By design, they are sliding and swinging. Models of the first type are many times more. Their sliding doors open thanks to the roller mechanism. Space saving is double. Among other advantages - convenience and tightness. Small swinging models open in different directions, and none of the options has an advantage over the sliding doors. The latest competition is the hinged and rotary modifications. An example of the first alternative is folding and “book” models. At the rotary, the door is opened and shifted to the side.

Doors of sliding cabins are from 40 to 140 cm wide. Sashes of square variants have a standard size of 40, 45 and 50 cm. Curved sheets are made with a width of 80–90 to 120–140 cm. The dimensions of swing doors are usually 500, 600 and 700 mm, that is, approximately “in the middle” between different sliding doors .

Types, parameters and features of shower cabins

The shape of the shower depends on:

  • functional load;
  • design features;
  • pallet shape.

Semicircular shower

According to these criteria, they are distinguished. Most of the market supply is angular, square, rectangular and round showers. Semicircular angular became popular due to maximum space saving. Rectangular design for large bathrooms and due to technical need. Shower boxes are sometimes combined with fonts and saunas. Buyers benefit financially and comfortably from these two-in-one options. Soul-saunas are single-chamber and separate.Models with a bathtub are either completely enclosed modules or boxes without a roof, and in some cases the font is actually a continuation of the shower and is completely open. The most necessary and basic convenience is a seat. In a relaxed position, a person will be able to relax and continue to wash. Manufacturers come up with new designs every year. An example is the compact model with a folding tray and folding plastic doors.

Square cabins

Variety Benefits:

  • good compatibility with different interiors;
  • ease of installation;
  • low cost.

Square shower

For manufacturers, the square shape is the simplest. A small consumption of material also contributes to "restraint" of prices. The configuration with right angles leaves it possible to install any type of glass. At the same time, water entering the compounds adversely affects hygiene and appearance. Cabs with a square base pattern are more successfully arranged with bathroom elements. Their faces coincide with the forms of household appliances and the sides of shelves, countertops. Cabins are combined with round fixtures. For a competent layout, there is no better option than a square one. There will be no problems with aesthetics. Square products are suitable for different and dissimilar design methods.

Among the running models, it is worth highlighting cabs with dimensions of 80 × 80 and 90 × 90 cm. In turn, the smallest models with a high pallet will become a reasonable alternative to a bath in tight bathrooms.

Shelf on the wall

Rectangular Cabins

The elongated form becomes popular and irreplaceable in at least 3 cases. Rectangular cabs are installed for 2 water supply points built into the wall. In an elongated cabin, a person can sit on the floor and stretch his legs - that is, she has great opportunities in terms of convenience. This is the second point. Manufacturers also produce options for dividing into cameras so that two can wash at once. The rectangular shape is hardly classical.Elongated showers are not suitable for replacing a bathtub in a confined space. And although this alternative does not make sense, it is worth noting the opportunities for technological solutions, design and functionality.

Rectangular shower

Popular models have dimensions of 70 × 90 and 80 × 100 cm, as well as 80 × 150 and 90 × 170 cm. Large cabins are bought in very large bathrooms, because small ones look strange there.

Rectangular models should be selected with additional conveniences, so that the benefit is worth the space occupied.

Armchair on the mat

Rounded Corner Cabins

The name "quarter circle" is also used. The advantages of corner models are expressed in presentability, external adaptability and maximum space saving. It rounded showers should be equipped with small bathrooms. So they save useful area and get freedom of movement. The popularity of the model is expressed in the leading place in sales.

Rounded corner shower

The most compact options do not have walls, so their function goes to the walls of the bathroom. Finishing in this case does not hurt to treat the water-repellent composition. Parameters 80 × 80 and 90 × 90 cm are the most popular among buyers, and in this sense there is an analogy with square souls. At the same time, the difference in ergonomics is very large and in favor of corner models. Options for 80 × 80 cm belong to the economy class, souls are 90 cm or more expensive. Pallets of angle models make mostly only low and medium.

Custom sizes

In this sense, it is worth noting models of unusual configuration and products of manufacturers who are trying to stand out. If the standard small dimensions are 70 × 70 cm, large ones start at 100 × 100 cm, and the largest reach 150 cm on each side, then for specific cases it is better to choose atypical. Cabins are made to order with an accuracy of centimeters, for example, 97 × 97 cm, etc. Among the rarely used "factory" sizes, it is worth mentioning 85 × 110, 85 × 150, 85 × 170 and 110 × 170 cm.For installation in public places, they select the dimensions that SNiP 2.09.04-87 allows. Dimensions and their display are influenced by shape. Complex rounded trapezoidal hydroboxes are measured at the most distant points in order to understand which place to choose for them. Multifaceted showers are made with complex calculations, and the exact parameters are far from always indicated.

Custom shower

Round showers

Their diameter is 900-1200 mm. For bathrooms with an area of up to 2.5–3 m², even a 900 mm design will be unnecessary in terms of saving space: if you choose between a rectangular bathtub and a round shower, then the first option will have more advantages. On an area of 4 m², the balance will “move” towards the round shower. Cylindrical cabs are placed anywhere. The shape and size contribute to the fact that the layout of the room does not have to be customized for this plumbing. Avoid only unjustified gaps between the wall and the booth. The cylinder cannot be attached to the corner, but next to it there will be a place for a safe supply in front of other types of plumbing. Round models are more often equipped with a roof. It is used including for arranging the upper shower. Round cabs are appreciated for their attractive technological appearance.

Round shower

Cabs without rear walls

Like other options, a shower without rear walls can be higher or lower than 200 cm. There are more low models and they are ideal for bathrooms with low ceilings. Do not draw water into attached cabins due to potential damage to the walls. However, wall-mounted designs are reliable and durable. The range of sizes includes models for 70 × 70, 80 × 80, 90 × 90 and 100 × 100 cm. The advantage of wall options is that they save additional space, but at the same time, the principle of fastening causes limitations. Closed boxes are placed anywhere, even along parts of the wall that protrude forward compared to other sections.But cabins without rear walls are installed so that the terrain does not interfere. A shower with an open side usually does not have a roof, and this affects the price. Material saving for manufacturers comes out almost twice.

Dimensions of showers with sauna

Boxes with a sauna usually have a non-standard shape with bends. Manufacturers produce cabins with parameters of 80 × 160 cm, 80 × 170 and 80 × 200 cm and wider for large bathrooms. The design feature of the sauna models was the presence of a steam generator that heats the water to a boiling point and then cools the steam to +50 ° C. The state of aggregation of a gaseous substance persists for some time by itself. At the same time, the shower room with a steam generator is inferior in functionality to an ordinary home sauna with heating elements. In addition to a special shower room, there is also an option with a partition where two cabins simply border each other. They almost do not differ in size from single-chamber ones. The sauna section is usually lined with wood. Use different types of oak, conifers. Cabin with an infrared sauna is popular.

Benefits of showers with sauna:

  1. Functionality.
  2. Benefit for health.
  3. Guaranteed reliability and safety: they are sealed and electrically safe.

Beams on the ceiling

Shower with seat

The model was invented for reasons of convenience and just so that you can relax, as well as for people who like to distract while washing and think about something else. There is no fundamental difference in size compared to other types of showers, but for options with a seat, convenience is noted with maximum space saving. We are talking about the ratios 80 × 80, 90 × 90, 95 × 95, 100 × 100 cm. There are larger modifications: 105 × 105, 120 × 120, 80 × 120 cm.

Shower with seat

In enlarged and extra large boxes, the seat is an almost mandatory element, especially if the product “belongs” to the expensive price segment. The peculiarity of the form is a high pallet with a smooth, slightly rounded pattern - when viewed from above.Manufacturers offer atypical solutions such as folding seats. Some manufacturers are more creative and produce showers with full built-in chairs, sometimes with an avant-garde form and for the right price.

Rug

Dimensions of a shower cabin with a bathtub

A versatile and convenient option that combines the approximate dimensions of the fonts, in addition to height, and the full functionality of two types of plumbing. Product prices start at the minimum cost of two bathtubs. Even the most budget options have several types of showers (including manual and overhead), hydromassage, radio and accessories. The more expensive ones are equipped with a fan, backlight, remote control. For big money they get dimensional models with additional seats and decorative screens. Recently, fonts combined with a shower are made almost exclusively from acrylic. The material of the transparent part is glass. The dimensions of the aggregates are represented by the parameters 80 × 150 × 215, 80 × 120 × 215, 85 × 170 × 215, 80 × 120 × 220 cm for small and medium models and 130 × 130 × 240, 135 × 135 × 220 cm for large square products. Thus, there are symmetric and asymmetric options.

How to choose a shower

At the very beginning we determine which products do not fit. For a cramped bathtub, round, rectangular without a built-in bathtub and any other models, the size of which will create problems, will definitely be superfluous. At the first inspection of the products, we measure them: we compare the results with the desired dimensions. The latter are determined in advance and at the same time we reserve the stock for new household and sanitary equipment. We select the intervals for the gaps so that the maintenance of the cabin is not difficult. Then compare the appropriate products. We take into account their absolute benefit and pros / cons compared to other models. We check quality: reliability of fastenings, safety, lack of marriage and appearance of a covering. At a detailed examination, we study the functions.Interest should be shown in the control panel, various modes, the principle of operation, convenience, the availability of technological innovations. At this point, it is worth finally deciding whether you need a shower or not.

The main stages of making a shower cabin with your own hands

Stage of manufacture:

  1. The solution to the question of the basis.
  2. Communication and organization of outflow.
  3. Waterproofing.
  4. Build the cab.
  5. Increased tightness.
  6. Checking the hydrocabin in business.

In theory, it is possible to assemble a shower cabin entirely of bricks, tile, install a glass door or leave the passage free. Assembly on the principle of a closed shower means the use of solid walls and flaps for opening. It will be much faster and more useful for ergonomics. The cabin will get an attractive look and compact size. Conventional enclosed showers are assembled with or without a tray. The second option provides enhanced waterproofing. After selecting the base and insulation, a drainage for the used water is organized. For showers without a pallet, they make a screed with thermal insulation and another protection against water. Cabins are usually mounted using metal strips - door panels and walls are mounted on them. The top of the shower is usually left open. Then they necessarily improve the tightness, turn on the water and check if nothing is leaking. After that, the work can be considered finished.

To facilitate future repairs, at least a minimum gap should be left between the shower and the walls of the bathroom!

Making a shower cabin with your own hands

With pallet

The first step is to organize waterproofing. In private buildings, it is allowed to deepen the floor for the pallet to make this element more capacious. The base can also be built of bricks, but it is better to take the factory with any shape you like. Already at the next stage, all elements are checked at the joints, starting from the bottom and ending with the walls and the roof, if any. See how the edges are flat and perpendicular.The width of the walls is selected from 70-80 cm and to any reasonable limit. Then, before the start of the assembly steps, communication is completed and a ladder with a slope for draining is arranged. The next step is to install walls, doors, shelves, a mixer and the rest of the equipment, in between using trims (other fasteners will be more difficult). In this case, glue and sealant are used. In the assembled cabin arrange waterproofing: process all seams, joints and small gaps.

Shower cubicle with tray

Without pallet

For a multi-storey building, the idea is not very good. Incorrect installation will lead to the destruction of the structure, and its instability will become noticeable immediately after assembly. So, we begin the gradual assembly of the cabin without a pallet with waterproofing the base. After - we mount the drain channel with a slope and work with all communications. Then we make a concrete screed on the floor. But before pouring it, we equip the thermal insulation and polystyrene mats do not interfere. We proceed to the next stage of waterproofing. In addition to the base, you need to protect the screed. Apply any of the following:

  • mastic;
  • bitumen;
  • roofing material;
  • glassine;
  • polyester.

After the concrete has hardened, we clad the bottom cover with a non-slip matte tile. We proceed to the installation of the components of the cabin and equipment: walls, doors, storage systems, crane. At the end, we check the stability of the module.

Bathroom design with shower

The style in the bathroom depends on the color / patterns, since a wide variety of materials and textures are not provided for by manufacturers of equipment. For the bathroom in the Art Nouveau style, souls are selected with dark glass, on which patterns are clearly visible. Modern trends and hi-tech strive for technological materials, simple colors, spectacular transitions and lines, smooth and streamlined shapes. A standard bathroom will look something like this if you try with the design and selection of plumbing.Maritime, ship and pirate themes require additional attributes, but are worth the effort. You need to work on the design all the time: somewhere to change the lighting, somewhere to make a permutation. In huge bathrooms, dozens of options are planned. The benefit and impressive effect will be from a large shower with a bathtub exactly in the middle of the room. In compact bathrooms, you should nicely place and arrange a shower, wash basin, washing machine and font, if any.

Conclusion

The choice between shower and bath is a dilemma for residents. The finished version is usually not changed, but in an empty apartment there is work to choose household appliances and measurements for plumbing. As a result, the functionality of a particular model must decide everything. The willingness of the buyer to close his eyes to any inconvenience depends on the capabilities provided by the manufacturer. People acquire simple and combined souls with a square, round, angular, polygonal, curved shape. Together with the hydrobox, they can provide built-in seats, a bathtub or even a mini-sauna. The dimensions of the sides of the base are 70, 80, 90, 100 cm, etc. up to 150 cm. Its long sides reach 2 m in length or more. The height of standard cabins is in the range of 190-230 cm. Due to the simplicity of the design, showers are also assembled independently, from no more than a dozen main parts.
