What should be the height of the mixer above the bath: standard from the floor

Mixer height above the bath

Repair of bathrooms and kitchens includes plumbing. It is important to arrange conditions for comfortable use. The owners are available several types of faucets for installation in various places, at different heights. Their design features determine whether the crane will be convenient and how much trouble it will bring during use. Safety requirements are met thanks to high quality materials.

Modern materials and methods of performance guarantee performance for many years. The mixer is also a complete element of the interior. Cascading models are available separately for bathtubs and washbasins. The range includes units with original levers and spouts, remote sensing models that respond to heat and movement. Not so long ago, the choice was limited to literally several options.

Types and characteristics of mixers: advantages and disadvantages

There are such types:

  • valve (two-contact, double-lever);
  • lever (single-contact, single-lever);
  • Thermostatic
  • non-contact (sensory).

The devices of the first type are more familiar and have been in operation for many years, but more often fail. They were replaced by single-contact ones. Now most faucets are controlled with just one handle. In the case of single-contact models, water exits at a faster rate. With frequent and short-term openings, it is more difficult to save. However, it is more convenient to adjust the temperature and pressure.

Stability is the main plus of the thermostatic option - a person will not need to regulate water over and over again. The disadvantages are the high price and selection restrictions. The water flow in the plumbing system is so strong that the installation of a particular model becomes difficult - the pressure has a great effect on the thermocouple. Contactless models are convenient for frequent use. But they also need adjustment. In addition, if the touch valve breaks, the room will be left without water.

Valve

Such mixers appeared before the rest and remain relevant, despite the loss of market positions. Valves are cheaper than other options and easier to operate. The basis of the device is a crane box with a rubber gasket. Due to the violation of the integrity of the gum, leaks begin, and in the near future it may be necessary to replace the plumbing. The leak itself is eliminated simply by replacing the gasket, but it often leads to flooding. A house or several apartments will suffer.In empty private houses, this will result in high costs for the consumed water and repairs.

With modern double-contact taps, the situation is different. The gasket function is performed by a ceramic valve. This design is more reliable and durable. According to manufacturers, it is enough for 45,000 turns. In this case, only a quarter of a turn is enough to start the water.

Lever

Single-contact (lever, single-lever) type of mixers is becoming more and more popular. They are used to equip a sink, shower, bath. In the design there is no crane box. It consists of a body, spout and cartridge for flow control. In many cases, instead of a nose there is a body with a channel.

For sinks, models with any type of spout are chosen, for the shower - most often with a direct channel and a nozzle for a hose with a watering can. The cassette is fixed with just one fastener with a decorative cap. A handle for supplying and controlling the temperature of the water is mounted on the lever of the cartridge. Even an inexperienced person can fix a lever crane. In addition to durability and simplicity, the advantage of the design is a stylish design. In general, cranes with a lever are very different in appearance. The main plus is the speed of water regulation.

Lever mixer

Thermostatic

This type of mixer maintains the water temperature at the same level, regardless of the increase in the pressure of the cold or hot stream. It is chosen by many buyers, even at a high price. There are two regulators in the mechanism to control temperature and pressure. Typically, these are rounded valves, but some manufacturers stylize them under levers or handles.

Some models have a display with information about the current settings. The principle of operation is the operation of the thermocouple. It is located inside and reacts to the property of water. If the temperature has changed in the water supply device, the thermostat will provide water at the same temperature, but with a different pressure.As a result, the pressure is likely to decrease, but may increase. When one of the flows stops, the mixer will stop working.

The design is safe - there is a blocker that provides protection against burns.

Norms and standards of installation

The following acts must be observed:

  1. SNiP 2.08.01-89;
  2. SNiP III-3-814;
  3. SNiP III-4-80;
  4. SNiP 3.01.01-85;
  5. CH 478-80;
  6. SNiP 3.05.01-85.

Rules include a sequence of actions. It is with these standards that you need to get acquainted first. First, the walls and ceiling are plastered. Then install plumbing (bathtubs, washbasins), and only then comes the turn of the faucets. At the same time, there are no strict indications regarding the location of devices other than height. Mixers of any type, like ceramic sanitary ware, are installed at a distance of no more than 3 meters from the riser. However, if necessary, the interval can be increased.

The shower faucet is mounted at a height of 120 cm from the floor - according to SNiP 3.05.01-85 and 2.08.01-89. The minimum height for various use cases is 80 cm. A minimum height of 65 cm is provided for fastening to the sink. Hoses for the mounting hole for the mixer are designed for flexible hoses only. Years of experience have shown that the mixer should not be higher than 20 cm above the edge of the bathtub or sink. Moreover, in the kitchen it is almost always built into the sink.

Standards for installing a mixer in the bathroom

Determination of height depending on the type of installation

Installation Options:

  • aboard a bathtub or sink;
  • on the floor or shower;
  • on the wall;
  • wall mounting.

The latter option is least likely to occur - then only the nozzle and switches are visible from the wall. The first two methods have a narrow possibility of choice. Some companies do not produce faucet holes at all. In each of the four cases, the mounting location is determined in advance - at the design stage of communications. Therefore, the nuances about the type and configuration of the mixer, the size and shape of the plumbing are taken into account at the very beginning of the work.

If the faucet is on a shower column, then the height of placement is agreed with the floor or bottom of the bath (if there is one). In the case of installation on mounting holes on the sides, options remain regarding the length of the pipe and, accordingly, the level above the floor. Some floor designs also leave the option to choose a height. Wall models need to be placed taking into account the distance from the sides and the floor.

Bathroom faucet height

Aboard the bowl

In the kitchen, this installation method is basic. On board the bath, the faucet is mounted much less frequently. This installation is possible first of all, if the holes are provided in the factory version. The reason for the low prevalence of such a solution is the elementary inconvenience during washing. However, you can install a high cascade mixer of a wide type (again, if such a configuration was originally provided) or a crane with a disc. The installation height corresponds to the level of the side of the bath and is in the range of 50-57 cm.

At the edge of the bathtub or sink for the kitchen / bathroom, installation is carried out in a hidden way - flexible hoses are used. The exit to them is hidden by a pipe or a decorative flap so as not to spoil the appearance of the room. If the height of the mount or pipe is at a level of 65-85 cm, the output is located slightly below the standard height. The gap between it and the mixer must not exceed the length of the connecting hose.

Experts recommend lateral options for placement on the sides, away from the center.

Bathroom mixer tap

On the rack

Stand - floor or wall design for installing a mixer, sometimes a shower net. Many foreign manufacturers make floor options. The installation height in this case is fixed and depends on the parameters of the base. There are general instructions for mounting racks with a removable and stationary watering can, i.e. rain shower. With a standard mixer height (approximately 100 cm from the floor), the upper stationary watering can should be located at a height of 200 cm.

At about the same level is the ideal height for the holder. The tip of the nozzle ideally drops 14 cm below the mounting point of the mixer on the stand. The distance between the mixer and the floor is increased to 120 cm from the bottom of the bowl if the wall stand is operated above the bath. According to the standard, the height of the floor mixer is 78 cm from the floor to the body and 83 cm to the spout.

Stand mixer

On the wall

Installation of the mixer on the wall above the bathtub is carried out at a height of 80 cm from the floor - this is a requirement of regulatory acts. Experts recommend increasing the rate to 85 cm. In this case, the norm is designed for an adult of average height. If the bath is intended only for children, then the indicator can be significantly reduced. Placing above the sink implies a 25-cm minimum margin from the top edge.

The norm is valid in the Russian Federation, but European requirements require a distance of 30 cm from the top of the washbasin. The calculation of the placement height from the floor or the pallet is made by summing a fixed indicator of 85 cm and the height of the supports (700-110 mm). The mixer is mounted without affecting the seams between the tiles and borders. Otherwise, a rough coating will prevent dense fixation of the reflectors. It all depends on the height of the calculation - mainly located at a distance of 0.9-1 meters from the floor.

Tips and tricks for installing the mixer yourself

First of all, you need to carefully dismantle the old unit, so as not to damage the surface. For installation, you will need an adjustable wrench and installation instructions for parts. Taps for cold and hot water are made from 15 cm. The depth of fitting installation is determined by the test assembly of the system. The construction level is useful, because with its help they control the parallelism of water outlets. The easiest way to install directly on board without podiums. Then it makes sense to create homemade holes.

During installation, you just need to attach the device to the water supply due to flexible tubes.If the tubes are longer than necessary, they are simply cut off. Then, sealing with washers and gaskets is required, and then the tap is screwed and fastened with a special nut. The mixer is the most difficult to install on a rack and podium. In this case, it is better to invite the wizard.

Conclusion

Replacing crane parts is the easiest task. And even installing a new device will not be a problem for the average layman. The models are mostly simple and ergonomic, but there are also complex ones in terms of installation. Installation is not only the assembly of individual elements and the connection of fasteners. It is also a choice of placement and level above the floor and plumbing. Using special movable elements, the faucet can be removed from the water supply and mounted directly on the sink or side of the bathtub. To choose the height of the mixer above the bath or floor, you do not need to be a specialist.

Enough compliance with SNiPs and publicly available recommendations. There is no need to rush when choosing a mixer. Some options will not only be useful, but also decorate the room - you should look for just such. It is worth considering the benefits of non-contact and thermostatic options. However, each solution has its advantages.
