Landscaping of a long and narrow section

Landscaping narrow section

Buying a summer house is the most popular way to get your own piece of land for building a house, cultivating a garden, summer holidays with barbecue. But not everyone gets space that is close in shape to a square. The landscape design of a narrow section, with competent zoning, the use of various means of visual correction of the shape, the good location of the house, can become a paradise for a family vacation.

Advantages, disadvantages of a narrow section

A piece of land less than 15 meters wide is not a very successful, but very common layout, which has pros and cons.

Positive sides:

  • lower cost than a square plot of land;
  • convenient zoning of space.Example: on one side is a garden and a vegetable garden, in the middle is a house, behind it is a garage and outbuildings;
  • the project of a house of smaller width provides for large skylights;
  • a single-march ladder along the wall will originally complement the facade, decorating it;
  • if you decide to break the garden, it is easy to make it inconspicuous.

Narrow section

Negative points:

  • it is problematic to accommodate a wide, square house, and a very narrow one will have to be well insulated, since it freezes harder;
  • neighboring houses are too close, can obscure part of the plot, a lower structure;
  • difficulties with placing a garage - close to the house it will disrupt the composition of the yard, and when located far away, the road to it will take up a lot of useful space;
  • a narrow garden in which it is impossible to plant too tall trees - they will obscure the garden;
  • when the site is located close to the road, problems with sound insulation are possible.

To the house was not quite crowded, used furniture of small width, as well as built-in.

Features of planning, zoning

The narrow land allotment is recommended to be divided into three main zones:

  • residential - a place for home, children’s or sports ground, pool;
  • Garden - a garden and a garden are arranged here;
  • household - here they build a shed for tools or keeping animals, a garage, a shower with a toilet, etc.

Narrow section layout

The house is located along or across the summer cottage - as it will be more convenient for residents or vacationers in it. Communications - electricity, heating, gas supply, water supply, sewage are designed in advance, based on the location of the home, other buildings.

Even if the land ownership is completely fenced with a dull stone fence, a more elegant design is made near the entrance - forged gratings, perforated wooden gates, etc.

Home location

The main element of the plan is a residential building, from the location of which they usually begin.The ideal orientation of the ends is west-east, so the structure will receive a lot of daylight, warming well in the sun. When the land ownership is tiny, occupying a couple of hundred acres, the building is built along the entire plot, the exit is made directly from the rooms. In the "carriage" type house, rooms, except for the front ones, will be walk-through. It is undesirable to make a building less than five to six meters wide - this is very inconvenient for life. The building is often made two-story or with attics, and in the basement a sauna, gym or cellar is equipped.

Site zoning

When zoning, each corner of the site should be used to the maximum extent - even the most non-functional, having a difficult terrain, etc. On large landholdings, it is easy to place both primary and secondary, optional zones, if the plot is very small, you will have to give up a lot or something to combine with something. It is recommended to place the garden with a garden on the sunny side, a barn, a garage, a toilet, and animal rooms in the shade.

Narrow area zoning

Mandatory Zones

The following zones are obligatory:

  • representative or front area - located near the entrance to the dwelling. Alpine hills and fountains, vertical and ordinary flowerbeds, preferably asymmetric, are located here. This is the “face” of land tenure; therefore, the care of the front zone requires very careful;
  • private zone - separated from the previous one by trellises and pergolas, backstage and low fence. These structures in the elongated area are made low when the zones are separated by flowering plants, white-yellow, pink, light blue shades are preferred. Inside the private corner place a gazebo, terrace, green office, hammock;
  • specialized or economic zone - it is fenced off just like everyone else. It places sheds for inventory, aviaries for animals, hang clotheslines and more;
  • transit or buffer - arranged if necessary, located closer to the exit from the site, but not in the middle. Here they put a car, a motorcycle, a bicycle, mount water, light meters, so as not to let outsiders into the house. Also here, if necessary, unload brought construction materials. The buffer is separated from the rest of the space by a higher hedge, a wooden or brick fence.

Optional zones

Optional include:

  • sports ground - most often it is placed between the specialized area and the resting place;
  • playground - it is arranged next to the place where adults rest, separated by a symbolic flower bed or path, so that children are always in sight;
  • garden - usually adjacent to the economic zone, separated from it by a hedge or a miniature fence.

Stylistic directions for a narrow section

The style of the landscape depends on the area of land ownership, the personal preferences of its owners, the most popular:

  • minimalism - there are very few details, which is convenient for small plots. Buildings - only necessary, instead of lush flower beds, trees - neatly trimmed lawns, bushes. Volumetric embankments, flat paths, straight trellises for climbing plants are allowed;
  • hi-tech - a lot of metal, glass, mirror elements. Gray steel fence and chrome furniture in the recreation area, mirror. Repeating the outlines of a small pond, framing flower beds with borders painted with silver paint;
  • eastern - low bushes and trees, alpine slides with many stones and pagoda arbors. Smooth lines, rounded ponds, ornamental plants from China, Japan, low wicker furniture are welcome. Symmetry and right angles are completely absent;
  • English - perennial plants of different heights, winding paths paved with large gravel or tile prevail here.Ponds, practically indistinguishable from those found in the wild, are organically combined with flowerbeds;
  • country - beds are located almost randomly, pumpkins, peppers grow on the flower beds, and flowers - wherever necessary. The decor uses stylized cranes, wooden wheels and carts, fragments of fences woven from twigs;
  • Baroque - suitable only for spacious areas. Lush rose bushes and openwork arbors with columns, antique sculptures and decorative fountains. Shod garden furniture, gilded elements create the most elegant design;
  • Forest - only natural materials, forest trees, mossy stones are used. Wooden buildings, beds are made inconspicuous. Land tenure resembles a plot of a real forest, with slight accents - redevelopment is the most minimal.

Visual correction methods

To correct a narrow, elongated space, you need to distract attention from its configuration, size. Tall trees here are planted in transverse rows or clustered at the very end of the garden, near the narrow sides. Closer to the middle are low trees, shrubs. Zoning is preferably done not along, but across, using hedges, paths, vertical flower beds, garden sculptures. Smooth rows must be combined with smooth, rounded lines, it is advisable to refuse high fences altogether.

Narrow section visual correction

Several large mirrors, located slightly at an angle on the long sides, can visually expand land ownership. In the dark, the territory is brightly illuminated along the long sides, the short ones are weaker or not illuminated at all. Brightly flowering plants are also able to expand the space.

Small architectural forms, decor

The decor is selected based on the style of the landscape. It is made of wood, ceramics, stone, concrete, plastic, rattan, wire, etc.

What is included here:

  • benches;
  • garden lights;
  • decorative wells;
  • miniature fountains;
  • sculptural compositions;
  • swing;
  • doghouse;
  • birdhouse for birds;
  • flower pots;
  • arches;
  • bridges;
  • forged trellises;
  • cache-pot;
  • ballot boxes.

Bench

Many lovers create the decor on their own, from improvised materials - old tires, plastic bottles, snags, stones, fragments of old furniture and household appliances. The playground, in addition to ladders, swings, is decorated with colored garden gnomes, ducklings, frogs, mushrooms, paths sprinkled with colored stone chips, gravel. The place intended for rest is made out by an artificial pond with a waterfall, a bridge, a barbecue or a barbecue with suitable furniture is placed on the terrace. Weathercocks, signs, mailboxes will originally complement the place at the front door.

Layout Design

A land plot with a slight slope, a couple of hills is not uncommon. A house on such a site is recommended to be built in the highest place. The space is leveled as far as possible, or left virtually unchanged. Beautification begins with the preparation of a project in which all the elements are linked together, since the more relief the terrain, the more noticeable minor errors.

But there are undoubted advantages: if everything is done correctly, using competent geoplastics, each unevenness will become a peculiar highlight of land tenure, and the cost of such “uncomfortable” plots is much lower than usual. Difficulties arise with the arrangement of the garden: it is important to know which plants love water, which are used to drier soil - the latter then land in high places. Separate zones are separated by curbs made of stone, logs, boards, forming many tiers.

When the slopes are very steep, they are strengthened by planting trees, shrubs with powerful root systems. Each level is additionally "propped up" by low fences made of stone, concrete, brick.It is important to carefully consider the location of utilities, the location of heavy structures, walkways, stairs, drainage systems. It is advisable to design the territory taking into account the movement of the sun - so that the garden does not shade, private corners, places of rest, even at noon, had a slight shadow.

Conclusion

The planning of a long, narrow "piece" of land is done with your own hands - this is easy to do, following the recommendations of specialists. If the improvement of such land ownership causes some difficulties, professional landscape designers are invited to work, who will not only advise where to build a house, in which corner to set up a garden, but also depict everything necessary in 3D format, taking into account the wishes of the customer.
