DIY shoe rack: drawings and assembly diagrams

DIY shoe rack

Shoes take up more volume than clothes. For this reason, it is not so easy to find the right corner in the room. Most often there is not enough space and some of the accessories are transferred to the hallway or wardrobe. Different people's shoes are usually mixed. If such chaos is constantly aggravated, new solutions must be sought. There is no wide variety of shoe racks, however, thanks to design ideas, more and more capacious and ergonomic models appear. If there was no ideal option for sale or there is a desire to save money, then elementary needlework skills will come in handy. Without time-consuming, you can make useful and high-quality furniture. Plus, a handmade shoe rack is an opportunity to try your own ideas and fantasies in the field of interior design. The product can last for many years.

Types of shoes

By type of construction, they are open and closed. The width of furniture for shoes is usually 30-150 cm, height - 50-200 cm, depth - 20-60 cm. Designs with a height of up to 70-80 cm are low, and with an indicator of more than 130 - high. Shelves are equipped in many places. They can be part of a bench or special cabinets-booms designed to accommodate shoes. With a sufficient amount of free space, you can think about implementing original storage methods. One of the options for such storages is old boxes in different colors. They are mounted on the wall at a short distance from each other. Beautiful old chests are also an interesting place to place. Both designer and authentic are equally good. Separately, it is worth noting modules with special brackets - the space savings in this case are maximum.

The most common options are:

  • cabinets;
  • shelving;
  • slim shoe racks;
  • thumbs;
  • galoshes;
  • shoe racks.

Shoe cabinet

This is a multifunctional furniture, sometimes combined with a wall with hangers, stands, coasters and other accessories for clothes. This is a convenient solution, as many different options will work. Cabinets for shoes only will be relevant in modular furniture sets. A narrow mirror set, for example, visually increases the hallway. The design is also retractable, which allows you to make fewer movements. A typical option can be considered a high "showcase" with 2 sections. If we are talking about a wardrobe, then a lower pull-out section may be provided here.Priorities when choosing furniture for storing shoes should be spaciousness and convenience. Therefore, options with a low shelf height and maximum height are the most practical. The shoe cabinet can fit up to 15 shelves, each of which has more than 10 pairs.

Shelving

Long competently located shelves can fit a large number of accessories. This method of placement has worked well in small boutiques and large shopping centers. Bilateral designs are also used there. At home, to save space, you can arrange wall shelves. They feature good ergonomics and high semicircular options. Shelves can be of non-standard shape: instead of simple even surfaces, you can see triangular, round, diamond-shaped, etc. When assembling a structure with your own hands, it is easier to make square cells - shoes can be folded as tightly as possible. Shelving is an equally good solution for corridors as well as for private rooms and dressing rooms. The disadvantages of these designs are difficulties in sorting items and maintaining order.

Slim format

This model is characterized by a shallow depth. In tight square hallways this is the best option. A distinctive feature of slim shoe racks are hinged doors. The opening angle should correspond to 30-90 degrees. Convenience depends on the angle: the smaller it is, the more difficult it is to get shoes. However, the angular placement of the shoe itself does not require a large depth of furniture. To use this design with benefit, 30 centimeters is usually enough. Only dry and clean shoes should be put on slim shoe racks. This measure is mandatory, because the formation of an unpleasant odor and pollution of other things is possible. In the manufacture of slim lockers, mainly chipboard boards and special fittings are used. This version of the shoe is usually performed as a floor, but the wall method is also used.One of the main disadvantages of such furniture is the lack of a place where it would be possible to put items for shoe care.

Shoe cabinet

It can be performed as a combined version with several sections for storing shoes. So you can combine open shelves and closed sections, even placement of shoes and at an angle. It is advisable to allocate a small compartment for shoe care products: shoe spoons, creams, etc. It should be borne in mind that a large number of pairs will not fit in the cabinet, and therefore alternatives to this option for using space are needed. Space saving is achieved due to the openness of the structure. Several wide shelves (for example, 2-3) are able to accommodate much more than a closed piece of furniture. Moreover, the shoes will be constantly available, it will become easier to take, prepare, organize. If the remaining places are more than enough, you can use a closed cabinet. It should be decorated with a decorative color and various elements.

Galoshnitsa

They are open and closed. The main advantage of the first type is ventilation: the shoes are well ventilated and dry quickly. Its significant drawback is the large amount of collecting dust: cleaning will be frequent and difficult. Closed are made in the form of cabinets and cabinets. They may have ventilation holes (usually on the back wall). These are the options that are usually chosen. The inner surface is made including from a moisture-resistant material, which allows you to put wet shoes there. Some galoshes are equipped with an ultraviolet dryer to destroy microbes that adversely affect the smell of products. To keep the shoes in shape, it’s better to choose a galoshnik with adjustable shelf height. A narrow version of the furniture fits perfectly into the interior of a tight corridor.

Shoe rack

In racks, shoes can be mounted vertically, clinging to special tongues.Other options are lattice surfaces. Some vertical shoe furniture resembles large wide shelves. The vast majority of racks are open - so it is much more convenient to use them. Closed options pay off if they are narrow and tall. Racks - tall structures, sometimes from floor to ceiling. They are designed to organize the storage of a large number of shoes. Shoe racks can also be spinning. Despite the large size, this element of the interior has several disadvantages. Firstly, the design is unstable. Secondly, it has large dimensions and will be superfluous in small hallways. It is also worth noting the difficulties in cleaning the upper tiers. Dust is more difficult to wipe there, so it can accumulate for a long time.

The main types of shoe installation

Case type - these are freestanding models. Their key strength is mobility. Shelves can be moved between different places and rooms when such a need arose. If such house designs are not available in principle, this will cause great inconvenience over time. The built-in option is divided into several subspecies. The main ones are: structures mounted in other furniture, and located in a niche on the wall. The second type of installation significantly saves space. Corresponding models are produced mainly on order. Built-in shoe covers hide some of the shortcomings: bumps, unused items. The rotating type of installation implies the arrangement of compartments around the circumference of a rotating drum. This is a very practical option that has found its connoisseurs. In addition to free designs, it is often used in cabinets with different configurations and sizes.

Materials of manufacture

The most popular materials found application:

  • tree;
  • plastic;
  • metal;
  • Fiberboard;
  • glass.

Wooden shoe rack

Wicker products are also in demand. As for the tree, it is suitable for lovers of the classic interior.Wooden products should be treated with protective agents so that moisture does not spoil them and does not lead to the formation of fungus. Plastic shoe racks are inexpensive, lightweight, and resistant to external influences. However, these products are inferior in appearance to well-crafted wood. Metal options are made with an open configuration. They are durable, but not practical in everything. Particleboard is a material convenient in processing that allows you to create products of various types and purposes. With proper handling and care, it looks very presentable. Glass shoe boxes are represented by shockproof open structures, as well as closed models, where glass acts as a facade. Wicker furniture for shoes will emphasize the interior, made in the same manner. It also has natural ventilation.

A step-by-step workshop on making shoes

Production takes place in several stages:

  1. Selection and acquisition of materials, tools.
  2. Creating a diagram of parts and their manufacture.
  3. Edging.
  4. Assembly of shoes and installation of accessories.

The first step is to choose the material. It is necessary to proceed from its strength, as well as ease of operation. Usually it is required to combine several types of materials for the facade, the frame and the back of the cabinet. As for the tools, then for some tasks several options are suitable at once, so you should decide in advance which one is better. After preparing the tools, it is the turn to create a drawing. Having a complete set of finished parts makes the task easier to a minimum. But, as a rule, you have to independently determine the size and proportions. After that, all the elements are cut out and their hemming begins. Paper cladding can be done independently. Assembly itself is a relatively simple process. To install the box, it is recommended to use minifixes. At the end, internal elements and fittings are installed.

Necessary tools and materials

Preference is best given to wood materials. In this regard, during the work on creating a petal shoe, you need a drill for confirmations, bits for self-tapping screws and confirmations, a square, a tape measure, a screwdriver, a screwdriver and an awl. Suitable materials are coniferous wood and plywood / chipboard / fiberboard / MDF sheets. Porous coniferous wood will absorb excess moisture. If the shoes dry properly before being placed in the cabinet, the chipboard of classes E0, E1, E2 or MDF will also suit the role of the material. Plywood is one of the most reliable materials for the manufacture of furniture structures, but at the same time it requires additional processing. MDF is also durable, and its structure facilitates drilling and assembly. But if you make furniture entirely out of it, then the weight will be too large and the price too. For this reason, the case is mounted from chipboard, and only facade can be assembled from MDF.

If plastic is chosen instead of natural materials, additional holes should be provided!

Drawing and procurement of parts

First determined with the dimensions of the furniture. The drawing must be applied to the height, width and depth of the product. It should also show the number of sections, their size and location, taking into account the thickness of the chipboard parts. According to the sketch, you will need to make a cutting map where all the elements are visible in the right sizes. Among the parts for assembling the cabinet will be 16 mm chipboard parts for the roof and bottom. The inner stand and sidewalls are made of chipboard of the same thickness (3 pieces are needed in total) and coincide in width with the previous sheets. Internal horizontal shelves are created from 2 parts: their thickness and width should have the same value as in the above cases (16 mm and 250 mm). For the facade you need four more details from the 16-mm chipboard. Still need internal partitions in 3 different sizes (4 pieces for all dimensions). In this case, a chipboard thickness of 10 mm is required. The back wall is made of one sheet of fiberboard 3 mm thick.

Edge trim

At home, paper edging is available. For plastic, you will need a machine and special glue. The latter will need to be heated to high temperatures for good adhesion between the edge and the part. Visible elements should be trimmed with a thick PVC edge (approximately 2 mm). So you need to lining the roof, facades, sidewalls and bottom. Inside the shoebox there will be partitions and various details. They also need to be glued with a PVC edge. However, in this case, the thickness of the lining should be 4 times less (0.5 mm). If it was decided to send parts to the masters for appropriate processing, then you will also need to transfer the detailing with exact instructions regarding the cladding. The following accessories are provided for the shoebox: thrust bearings (6 pcs.), Handles (4 pcs.), 4 sets of galoshes. Plastic sandwiches for sidewalls are needed in an amount of 2 pieces 192 × 287 × 85 × 16 mm for each set.

Assembly of shoes and installation of accessories

First, the frame is assembled. It includes a roof, bottom and two sidewalls. You can collect the box on confirmations. However, then the plugs will be visible, therefore, as an alternative, it is permissible to use furniture metal corners. Some recommend the use of minifixes for these purposes; In this case, you need to know the installation process of the eccentric screed. After mounting the box, you need to install the internal elements. It is easier to fasten them to the bottom and sidewalls with confirmations, and with each other and to the roof with corners. The assembly of the frame ends with the installation of the rear surface. When installing it at hand, you must have a geometric figure with the same diagonals. Next comes the turn of the front and accessories. For the most accurate installation of the facade, double-sided tape is used. After gluing the edges on the facade, 2 mm will be added on each side. Then, after installing the front side, taking into account all the gaps, the hardware is attached. First handles (after marking holes), and then thrust bearings.

Features of the assembly of racks and cabinets for storing shoes

The assembly rules are not particularly different from other cases, but for shoes it is necessary to provide for the optimal section sizes. If shelves are made, then in any case they cannot be filled to the top. And if the modules are planned square - it is desirable that large shoes fit there at least in three levels. From the edges of the surface to the shoes on both sides, a total of 10 cm should remain so that nothing falls. The rest of the design process is no different from other situations. It should be carried out in a well-lit room. First you need a drawing, and then holes for fasteners are drilled through it. Then metal corners are fixed. It is advisable to make cabinets without the usual drawers, but with special hinged doors (up, down, to the side). Accordingly, the pattern of the guides will be different. All fastenings of a curbstone / rack must withstand the load of a large number of shoes.

Shoe cabinet made of polypropylene pipes

Pipes from this material are:

  1. Narrow (including plumbing);
  2. Wide (more than 20 cm in diameter).

Shoe cabinet made of polypropylene pipes

This material is used to create various original items - armchairs, tables, shelves, etc. Shoe makers are made from both types of pipes. In the case of narrow material, you get an open stand with a square or horizontal configuration. Craft such a product does not make much sense, because a lot of time and effort will be spent, and there will be little practical convenience. Everything is different with wide pipes (from 20-25 cm in diameter). Each of them will fit at least a few pairs. Preparing the material is also not difficult, because all that is needed is to cut the pipes to the desired length. If their appearance is flawed or too different, then the workpiece will need to be painted. Pipes are placed in several ways - a pyramid, in identical rows and in the form of a cut rhombus. In the role of fastening, special ropes or glue are used.

About dryers and drying shoes

A shoe dryer is a small device for placement in the inside of a shoe. It is intended not only to prepare dry shoes for use, but also to eliminate bacteria that can provoke fungal diseases. Ultraviolet dryers are also provided for this purpose. They work on electricity, connect to the network using a cord. The heating temperature reaches 60 ° C, and for some modifications - 90 ° C. The working indicator in the above situations will be 5-12 watts. In the past, dryers were almost only metal, but nowadays they are made of ceramic or hidden in a plastic shell. Shoes can be dried using other methods. It is enough to equip ventilation: do not close the doors completely, select furniture with "breathing" holes. Avoid placing unbroken shoes next to dry ones.

Conclusion

Shoes are often placed randomly and in inappropriate places. When choosing and preparing shoes, the mess is particularly inconvenient: sometimes it is difficult to find a second shoe, sometimes the whole pair is lost. An additional element of furniture if it does not solve the problem as a whole, then at least will allow to free some places. There are many models of shoe racks on the market, ranging from cabinets and cupboards to racks and racks with or without shoe brackets. You can make furniture yourself. Polypropylene pipes - an original and practical option that allows you to create shoe boxes of various sizes and shapes. But you can go in a more traditional way: purchase wood or recycled sheets, create a sketch of the petal stand, cut out all the elements and, after their preparation, assemble the box along with the fittings details.
