Self assembly kitchen

The production of a kitchen set is a complex and laborious process. Few people dare to engage in such complex work without experience and relevant skills. The idea of creating such furniture with your own hands, at first glance, seems completely impracticable. In fact, with certain knowledge and skills in using the tool, this bold plan is quite realistic to realize.

The benefits of self-assembly kitchen

It would seem - why such difficulties? It is much easier to buy a ready-made furniture set or order its production from professionals. But for many, self-made kitchen is not just a desire to save. This is an opportunity for self-expression and the realization of your own vision of the project. Making a headset with your own hands allows you to get a custom design that:

  • perfectly fit into the layout of your apartment;
  • will meet all the requirements of future owners;
  • It will be filled with components that are original in form and function;

Self-made kitchen

will give pleasure and joy from the process of its development, creation and operation.
Whether it is worth assembling a kitchen set with your own hands, everyone decides for himself. But if the future owner already has experience in the manufacture of furniture, it is worth applying it. Those who have decided on this difficult matter will not have to:

  • pay for the services of specialists;
  • worry about the quality of work.

Creating a new headset is most often not spontaneous. Usually it is preceded by a long stage of project development, which takes into account a lot of different nuances. The number of modules, their purpose and location are determined. Materials, accessories, internal filling are selected. The kitchen should turn out not only beautiful, but also convenient, ergonomic, functional. It is necessary to think over the location of the “working triangle”, filling in the dead zones, ways to open the doors and many more different points.

Headset material selection

The design of the kitchen set includes cases, facades and countertops. For each of these components, various materials can be selected.

Materials for load-bearing structuresChipboard what is it Chipboard MDF what is it MDF Array for the kitchen

Materials for load-bearing structures

The case is the basis of kitchen furniture. To date, the following materials are used for the manufacture of frames - an array of natural wood, MDF - fine-fiber boards and particleboard - particle boards.

  1. Array is the most expensive material for the manufacture of cases.It is environmentally friendly and durable, provided that quality wood is used. Otherwise, there is a risk that the tree will lead.
  2. MDF is a durable, moisture resistant material. It is made of wood and resin, therefore it is safe for households.
  3. Particleboard - most often used because of the affordable cost. Lamination protects it from moisture. But if the edge is not processed by a film - sooner or later the material will begin to swell and collapse. In addition, harmful resinous secretions enter the room through the open edge.

Countertop Selection

The most common tabletops are from laminated particleboard. They are practical, have a low cost, are not afraid of bumps and contact with hot dishes. Spilled oil, boiling water, chemicals will also not damage such a surface. The weak point of chipboards is insufficient moisture resistance. Therefore, you need to choose a material with increased protection with the marking B. The composition of such plates includes paraffin, which prevents the penetration of moisture. The laminate layer perfectly protects the surface, but poorly finished edges are very vulnerable. Therefore, their quality must be given increased attention. It is better to use PVC tape, as it reliably protects the edges from chips.

A natural wood worktop looks very attractive and expensive. But she is rather capricious - does not tolerate high temperatures, moisture and requires additional care. Once every six months, it must be treated with oil. Wooden countertops should be protected from water. Otherwise, the appearance of cracks will not be long in coming. You can varnish it or paint it. Lacquer coating will help protect the array from getting wet. But over time, it will crack and exfoliate.

A practical substitute for solid wood can be a glued wood worktop. For its manufacture, identical, perfectly ground lamellas from specially selected and processed wood are used.Such a surface does not swell or deform; cracks do not form on it.

A natural stone worktop is an expensive pleasure. It will last for many years, because it is not afraid of high temperatures, the effects of acids, liquids, fungus and germs, it is resistant to abrasion, scratches and chips. The stone has antistatic properties - it does not attract dust.

An alternative is an artificial stone. This is a composite material, in which there is a crumb of natural stones or minerals, resin and pigment additives. From it it is possible to form a cast seamless work surface, of absolutely any shape, with sides, plinths and even an apron, which eliminates the need to lay tiles on the wall. Modern industry offers the following types of this material:

  • Acrylic - provides great opportunities for design, but is not resistant to various kinds of influences. Scratches form on it very quickly, traces of hot dishes remain;
  • quartz agglomerate is much stronger, since it is 96% composed of quartz chips. Absolutely not subject to abrasion and scratches. It tolerates short-term contact with hot objects.

Material for facades

When choosing material for facades, it is necessary to pay attention not only to aesthetic qualities and cost. Much more important is the operational characteristics of the future “face” of the headset. The higher the resistance of the material to the aggressive effects of moisture, temperature, mechanical stress, household chemicals, the longer the headset will be able to maintain its original appearance.

The most common options for kitchen facades:

  • MDF or MDF facades - melamine-coated panels. Differ in the low price and low resistance to emergence of scratches;
  • MDF facades with enamel coating - pre-primed surfaces are covered with several layers of paint, after which the top varnish is applied;
  • plates coated with PVC film - an affordable technology in which color and any patterns are applied to the film and glued to prepared products;
  • facades trimmed with plastic - allow you to create doors of complex shapes. Not afraid of direct sunlight, moisture. Fingerprints are very noticeable on glossy surfaces, and dirt is heavily removed from matte surfaces;
  • frame - elements from another material - glass, plastic, rattan mat, which give the kitchens originality and originality, are inserted into the frame of MDF. Of the minuses, the complexity of everyday care can be noted. The frames are also made of aluminum or wood;
  • veneered - plates are pasted over with veneer of valuable species and resemble a real massif, remaining very attractive at a price;
  • from a natural tree - eco-friendly and durable facades that always remain relevant.
    Cabinet doors can be made of wooden panels - teak or glued from oak, larch, birch, aspen, pine, beech, spruce or cedar. The facades from OSB look original.

Hardware

Auxiliary elements help to improve the quality of furniture, extend its life, make it more convenient.

Hardware for your comfort

  • Furniture handles - made of a wide variety of materials, designed to withstand repeated pressures and environmental influences. There are pressure transforming handles.
  • Dampers - serve to soften bumps and claps. Mounted on door hinges, guides for drawers. Thanks to them, the movement stops for a second, and then continues until the box is completely closed.
  • Hinges - modern designs make it possible to significantly increase the angle of opening of the doors. In the case of roll-out systems, it may be necessary to open the door 175 degrees. Hinges differ in purpose - for chipboard, MDF, wood, metal and the number of hinges. There are 4 and 7 articulated devices.The latter allows you to move the door to the side after it is fully opened.

  • Guides - are fixed on the inner side surfaces of the cabinets and act as a kind of rails for rolling out drawers and other structures. There are roller and ball designs. Ball bearings can withstand loads of up to 80 kg, so they are indispensable for deep and wide drawers.
  • Lifting mechanisms - are used to open and fix the upper doors. There are mechanical and pneumatic lifts. The latter allows you to determine the desired angle of elevation of the door and fix it in the ajar position.
  • Metal boxes - boxes, consisting of two guides, front and rear walls. They can have completely different dimensions.
  • Systems "Carousel", "Magic Corner" - allow you to use hard-to-reach spaces in corner systems.
  • Metal baskets are elements of internal filling. Convenient designs that allow you to easily view the contents of the box.
  • Separators - are installed inside the box. Serve for the organization of kitchen utensils, spices, cutlery.

Stages of creating a project

The process begins with building a general plan of the room, taking into account all sizes. Then, based on it, a drawing is built taking into account household appliances.

Decide on the design

The first thing you need to decide when starting to create a kitchen design is the location and size of the refrigerator, sink and stove. You need to start with them for the reason that they are dependent. The location of the sink depends on the location of the water supply system, the gas stove - on the pipe and ventilation hole, on the refrigerator from heating devices - you cannot place it near the battery. The location of the hoods, drying for dishes, drawer for spoons and forks will depend on the placement of these elements. There are many programs with which you can quickly sketch the design of the headset.If necessary, you can contact the company that manufactures custom-made furniture for help.
Then we choose the type of layout of the future kitchen. For small rooms, linear placement along one or two walls, or angular, is suitable. In the spacious kitchens of private houses or studios, a peninsular layout, and even an island, are possible.

We make measurements

One of the most important events during the creation of the kitchen is taking measurements. Accuracy in this matter is simply necessary - it will affect the speed and complexity of further work.
First of all, the perimeter of the room is measured - along the plinths, at the level of the upper boundary of the floor modules - 85-90 cm and at the average height of a person. Room height is also measured in several places to detect errors. Next, the starting point is selected - the angle from which the distances to windows, doors, gas pipes, water outlets, heating devices, outlets, and ventilation holes are determined. These parameters are necessary for the proper placement of kitchen modules. In the measurement scheme, you need to specify the dimensions of the windows, doorways along with the platbands, dimensions, design, height of the window sill and the width of its protrusion.

When designing a kitchen, it is necessary to consider the placement of household appliances, therefore, you need to know its dimensions in advance.

Kitchen perimeter measurement

Do not forget about household appliances

Before you go to the store for household appliances, you need to decide on the style and color scheme of the future kitchen. Spontaneously purchased units can subsequently absolutely not be combined with furniture. Agree - chrome surfaces look strange in the style of Provence or country.
The dimensions of future cabinets depend on the dimensions of household appliances. Therefore, it is better to first acquire "kitchen helpers", and only then determine the size of the drawers. If after installing the kitchen it is found that the oven or dishwasher does not fit in the cupboard, there is nothing to be done about it.But the dimensions of the kitchen, at the design stage, you can always adjust to the size of the equipment.

Save worktop space by opting for a two-burner mini cooker.

The washing machine and dishwasher must be located in the immediate vicinity of the outlet and drain. When transferring these devices, you will have to use a special pump. The built-in oven can be placed in the cabinet under the hob or moved to a separate case.

Built-in oven in the white kitchenMini stove in the interior of the kitchen Built-in appliances in the kitchen Classic-style kitchen with integrated appliances Chrome dishwasher in the interior of the kitchen Microwave over the sink
A stove in the corner will double your worries. After all, it will be necessary to wash off two walls from fat at once, and you will have to reach for them through the stove, and it will be most difficult to clean the corner. Do not place the stove near the sink - water droplets can fall into the hot oil, which will spray on the hands of the hostess. There is no place for her near the window - the wind can blow out a fire or accidentally set fire to a fluttering curtain.
The microwave oven should not be built in too high - there is a risk of burning yourself with heated food from the plate. It is also inconvenient when it is located too low - you have to bend over.
The refrigerator must not be installed next to the stove, oven, radiator and just in a well-lit place. It will work with enhanced power, which will shorten the life of the device.

Design features and dimensions of the kitchen

There are certain rules for the placement of kitchen elements:

  • the sink should be placed close to communications;
  • it is necessary to plan a sufficient number of available outlets for connecting small household appliances. Unacceptable to install them on a gas stove or sink;
  • the hood should be in close proximity to the ventilation hatch, so that you do not have to subsequently mask the unsightly corrugation;
  • the distance from the hood to the stove is 75 cm. With a greater distance, the device will cease to cope with its duties;
  • it is better to place the sink in line with the work surface and the stove.Cooking at this location is much more convenient.

Design of a kitchen set

There are classic sizes of kitchen modules. They are designed for a person of average height. The dimensions of the manufactured household appliances depend on these parameters.
The standard height of the working surface is 85 cm. In this position, a person does not have to raise his elbows too high, or vice versa, to bend over. The depth of the countertop is 60 cm. The technique will fit on such a surface and at the same time do not have to reach far to wash the tiles. The depth of the upper tier is 30 cm. It is quite enough to place the dishes and not be injured, bending over the countertop. The height of the cabinets is from 70 to 90 cm. Too high shelves remain unused. You can get to them only with the help of a stepladder or stool. The width of the doors varies from 30 to 45 cm. This width is quite enough for the convenient use of cabinets.

With self-made kitchens, the average parameters can be changed by adjusting the height of the countertops and the upper tier to your height.

Features of the corner kitchen components

This layout option is optimal for small rooms. The modules are located with the letter G. There are two options for the execution of the corner node:

  • trapezoidal module;
  • connection of two cabinets at right angles.

The first option takes up a lot of space. Therefore, most customers prefer a more accurate angle. But in order to use the dark, inaccessible zone, it is necessary to provide for various withdrawable and retractable devices, as well as a special double door.

Sketch and accurate drawing

Given the above nuances, you can begin to create the final accurate drawing and sketch.
The first step is to draw a top view. Then, a sketch of the wall is created, which will have a headset. Indicate the location of communications, electrical outlets, gas boiler, meter and pipe, ventilation.After that, a sketch of the remaining three walls is created taking into account doors, windows, sockets. It is better to print the image in several copies - you can experiment and try different options for placing kitchen components.
Particular attention should be paid to the development of electrical wiring diagrams. In addition to the main switch, you will need to install devices for controlling the backlight, as well as hidden sockets for each of the stationary electrical appliances and additional ones for connecting small technical devices.

The next stage is the arrangement of furniture in compliance with real dimensions. You can focus on standard dimensions, but if necessary, change the parameters in accordance with your own needs. Start with a drawing, which shows a top view. After that, they begin to design a sketch of the wall with a headset. First, a countertop is drawn. Then, the lower furniture cabinets are displayed along with the built-in appliances and a sink with exact parameters, performing a drawing at the selected scale. After that, wall cabinets are drawn in contrasting colors. In the same way we draw the rest of the walls with the furniture. With the sketches of all four walls at your disposal, you can begin to create a layout. The last stage is the choice of color, texture, style of the headset.

Sketch and 3D visualization can also be created using special programs - Pro100, 3CAD Evolution, Sweet Home 3D.

Chipboard cutting map

At the next stage, it is necessary to make a map of the cutting of the material, make a detailing, and finally, cut the chipboard.

The nesting map is a document with a drawing of the correct layout of future headset parts. It allows you to determine the required amount of material, minimize its consumption by reducing scraps, speed up the sawing process. The map shows the best way to lay out parts, so in the process you won’t have to spend time thinking about it.

To create a map, you can use special programs, for example, Cutting. Another option is to order its compilation in the same company where the materials were purchased.

When preparing a document, it is necessary to take into account the following nuances:

  • the width of the mounted modules should be a multiple of 50 mm and start from 200 mm - 250, 300, etc .;
  • direction of the texture, if it is on the surface of the material;
  • the size of the back wall should be less than the dimensions of the module by 4 mm;
  • for the production of hanging drawers, 16 mm thick chipboard is required, and for floor cabinets - 18 mm.

When the card is ready, you can begin to reveal the details.

If you yourself do not plan to make a cut, it is better to order it in the same store where you bought chipboard. So you do not have to spend twice on transporting material.

Necessary assembly tools

Before proceeding with the assembly, make sure that all the necessary tools are available. It is better to take care of this in advance than to interrupt the process due to the lack of an indispensable device.
Tools to be prepared:

  • drawing or joiner's square;
  • level - regular or laser;
  • roulette;
  • a circular saw;
  • jigsaw;
  • hammer;
  • drill with a perforator;
  • screwdriver;
  • drills - by 4.5 mm, 7, 8 mm;
  • awl;
  • stationery knife;
  • pliers;
  • hexagon;
  • self-tapping screws;
  • confirmations;
  • conductor - significantly facilitate assembly, protect furniture from accidental damage.

Assembly is carried out in stages

  1. Lock rails for drawers.
  2. Drill holes for mounting shelves.
  3. Holes are made to connect the individual modules.
  4. The side walls are attached to the bottom of the box.
  5. Attach the top board.
  6. Set the legs.

Installation begins with the connection of the lower cabinets. Fixation is carried out using euro ties. After that, they attach a single back wall. Next, on the countertop, mark the areas for washing and the hob, and cut out the holes in accordance with their size. The saw cuts are treated with sealant. After that, the countertop is attached to the stands with the help of screws. Next, determine the height of the canvas for fixing the upper cabinets.For this, their height plus 10 mm is added to the distance between the countertop and the suspended structures. After mounting the upper tier, the doors are installed in the open state. The hinges are first attached to the doors, and then to the walls of the enclosures. Next comes the turn of the built-in equipment, accessories, metal baskets and roll-out systems.

Creating a kitchen with your own hands is an interesting and fascinating process, and its result will delight you for many years.
