The arrangement of furniture in the kitchen

Furniture arrangement in the kitchen

Repairing in the kitchen is often a lot of trouble, especially when it comes to buying a new headset. Convenience and safety of work, rest, eating in this room directly depend on the proper arrangement of furniture in the kitchen. Harmonious interior decoration in Feng Shui will help to avoid injuries and other health problems.

The main features, the rules for the arrangement of furniture and accessories

Before you begin the arrangement, you need to draw at least a rough plan, indicate significant dimensions. There are rules for placing kitchen items - observing them, the room is equipped as conveniently and beautifully as possible:

  • the working area is equipped with a table, the approximate height of which is 80-95 cm. The exact parameters are selected for the growth of a particular person. Here the cook spends most of the time;
  • the meal site also has a table, the height of which is usually done on the same level with the worktop. Less often it is made lower - 70-80 cm;
  • the sink is made as deep as possible to fit a lot of dishes, equipped with a long mixer. Two-bowl designs are very popular in modern kitchens;
  • a stove with an oven is located at least 55-65 cm from the balcony, window, door.

It is not advisable to place the element in a corner - it is forbidden to put it close to the wall, and it is also easier to wash off grease from the countertop, other pollution is much easier than with new wallpapers;

  • the hood is suspended 65-70 cm from the surface of the plate. If the height of people living in the apartment is more than 175 cm, then the product is mounted 10-15 cm higher. The higher the hood, the more spacious the room (studio, kitchen-living room) is fixed, the more powerful it should be;
  • the refrigerator is placed in the corner, but so that the door opens to the nearest wall. On some models, the opening direction is easy to change;
  • the dishwasher is placed near the sink and outlet, so as to conduct as little communications as possible. The same applies to the washing machine;
  • placement options also depend on the design of the room - individual interior styles require the greatest possible symmetry.

Kitchen Zoning

Zoning is not just someone’s defined way of arranging objects. In order to always have order in the kitchen, you should correctly allocate space for cooking, eating, storing dishes and equipment. If desired, each niche, protrusion, element that cannot be transferred is used for this.Separation of a spacious room into zones is carried out using separate light sources, differences in ceiling height, low podiums, arches, columns, cramped spaces are zoned by color, a small bar counter, photo wallpaper, and other decor elements.

Kitchen Zoning

Work zone

Cooking takes place in this area, so it should be located directly next to the place of storage of food and dishes. It is important to comply with the rule of the "working triangle", placing significant elements, that is, the refrigerator, sink and stove not in one line, but at a certain angle.
In the working space do not place excess decor, furniture, such as chairs. The minimum width of the aisles near the working area is at least one meter if up to three people live in the apartment and the kitchen is not a walk-through; from 120 to 170 cm - when the path passes through the kitchen to the balcony, to another room, and for four or more people living.

A hood is placed over the stove - the more spacious the room, the more powerful it is chosen.

Kitchen work area

Dining or dining area

The place of eating is located at the maximum distance from the cooking zone - in the opposite corner, the bay window, separated by furniture and others. When the table is located so that it is often walked past, including into another room, it is better to refuse from the sharp protruding corners of the countertop, especially if the apartment is visually impaired, small children. The space for free movement here is at least 70-90 cm.

In a cramped room, the dining room sometimes adjoins directly to the cooking zone, located on the other side of the countertop or behind the bar, which is a continuation of the desktop. In order to isolate the dining area in a larger space as much as possible, it is "raised" with the help of a podium, which is also the place of storage of individual items. A meal on an extended windowsill is also not uncommon.

The dimensions of the table depend on how many people will eat at the same time - for one width of 0.6-0.7 m, depth of about 0.45 m is enough. The standard height of the structure is 0.72 m, permissible - 0.7-0 , 77 m. When space is sorely lacking, the table is made folding, folding, retractable, transformable, and a compact freestanding one is equipped with wheels. Chairs should match the table not only in height but also in design. The width of such a seat is about 0.5 m, the depth is 0.4 m, and the maximum dimensions of a chair equipped with armrests are 0.75 m.

It is not advisable to hang voluminous shelves with sharp corners over the dining table - they often cause various injuries.

Dining area

Triangle rule

The “working triangle” includes a sink, a stove with an oven, and a refrigerator. The arrangement of these items is triangular, the recommended distance between them is 120-170 cm. With this arrangement, a person engaged in cooking will not lose much time moving around the kitchen - first he will remove the products from the refrigerator, then he will carry them in the sink, then cut and put on the stove.

The sink is mounted no more than two meters from the riser - otherwise there will be problems with the discharge of waste water. In the immediate vicinity they put a washing machine and dishwasher, the latter usually located on the right side (if the one who cooks in the kitchen is left-handed, then a left-handed arrangement is acceptable).

The stove is placed near the gas pipeline, in a private house - 50 or more cm from the gas cylinder, a few meters from the boiler, when using household gas. To equip the hood, there should be a duct nearby. The approximate distance from the stove to the sink is 50-170 cm, the best is 95 cm. A cutting surface is usually entered here. On the other hand, at least 40 cm is also left from the stove to comply with safety regulations.The distance from the stove to the window is from 50 cm, it is extremely inconvenient to place it in the corner. The geyser is usually placed on the wall - it is hidden behind the facades of the cabinets, transferred to a convenient place or left unchanged.

The refrigerator is placed near the sink, but at a distance of at least a meter from the stove. In cramped kitchenettes, the item is generally put into another room, which violates the “working triangle”, but frees up some space for free movement.

The refrigerator and stove must not be installed close to the wall from the back wall. It is advisable to leave at least five cm for free air circulation.

Typical furniture layout options

You can place furniture in different ways - it depends on the area of the room, the size of the headset and dining table, the presence of a recreation area. How to arrange items in the kitchen:

  • in one or two lines;
  • L-shaped;
  • U-shaped;
  • G-shaped;
  • with the island;
  • with the peninsula.

Sometimes, to expand the space, conveniently place all objects, they remove, transfer the doors, change the direction of their opening, replace them with sliding ones, etc.

Options for the arrangement of furniture in the kitchen

In one line

The linear layout is suitable for overly cramped Khrushchev premises, as this is the most compact option. There are no protruding corners, complex shapes, because this option is considered the cheapest in execution. A single line arrangement is ideal for small studios, spaces combined with a living room, an entrance hall, narrow rooms with a width of less than 2-2.5 m. There is only one minus - you can’t follow the rule of the “working triangle”, therefore such a kitchenette is suitable only those who are few rarely do cooking.

All furniture is placed along a short or long wall, blocking it completely, it is advisable to build a sink between the refrigerator and the stove.

Linear layout of the kitchen

In two lines

In a two-row arrangement, a headset is placed along one wall, and another part of the headset is placed next to the other, as well as a dining table with chairs.It is easy to observe the “working triangle” here, using two opposite walls. The option is best suited for the elongated shape of kitchens, the width of which is at least 2.4 m, walk-through rooms, rooms without a dining area. To a lesser extent, this arrangement is suitable for spacious square rooms, but in the center it will turn out to put a dining table.

The disadvantages of a parallel layout are low safety if the room is walk-through and the distance between the two sides of the headset is less than 150 cm. Such a room will seem too close, but if the width of the passage is more than two meters, cooking will cause some inconvenience. It is advisable to plan the placement so that there is a refrigerator on one side and a stove and sink on the other.

Double row kitchen

L-shaped

With this arrangement, two adjacent walls are used. The option is the most popular, it is performed in several ways: part of the headset is located along the window, and the worktop is combined with the window sill or any other wall is involved. The main plus of the layout is the maximum use of the angle at which the sink is placed, a capacious corner cabinet equipped with a roll-out storage system. In terms of creating such a model, the headset is a bit more complicated, since it is also necessary to correctly plan external corners - usually at least one of them is beveled so as not to clutter the entrance to the kitchen.

The layout is optimal for medium-sized square rooms - 9-13 square meters. m. The dining area is located diagonally from the headset.

L-shaped kitchen

U-shaped space

U-shaped option is created in small kitchens, if the dining area will be located in another room. The capacity of the space here is maximum, since two angles are involved, and everything that is necessary for cooking is directly at hand. The headset itself will be quite expensive, bulky - the place to eat here can only be put in the center,but the area of the kitchen should be at least 15-17 meters. The layout is ideal for families where they cook a lot and often.

Passing space with a U-shaped arrangement will not work out. In small rooms you have to use the windowsill. The ideal width of the aisles here is 110-180 cm, if they are larger or smaller, the space will become uncomfortable.

If the U-shaped device of the kitchen seems excessively heavy, one or two sides are done without upper cabinets.

U-shaped kitchen

G-shaped

Such a layout is usually made out by a bar - the placement option will be intermediate, between the U-shaped and the room with the peninsula. Properly dividing the space, observing the “working triangle” as much as possible, here is the easiest. A headset of this configuration can be placed only in a spacious, including combined room, and made to order. The protrusion itself is often made rounded, it is recommended to use it as a place of eating.

G-shaped kitchen

Peninsula

The kitchen with the peninsula is convenient, it is easy to fit even in a relatively small area, since one of the ends of the island adjoins the wall, and is not “floating”. This is the best solution for medium-sized kitchens located in studios, kitchen-halls, kitchen-living rooms, kitchen-dining rooms. The peninsula is often equipped with a bar on one side or this part is a full dining table. You should not save on the width of the aisles - safety must always be taken care of.

Kitchen with peninsula

Isle

The island location of the headset part creates an unusual, convenient layout, it is easy to distinguish a working, dining, living area here. A layout with even a very small island is suitable only for spacious or combined rooms, with an area of at least 17-19 square meters. meters.

The island has a working space with integrated hob, oven, sink, dining area, storage systems.Instead of a table, an island bar counter is sometimes placed here. It is important to observe the width of the aisles - at least 100-120 cm.

Embedding a stove in the island is more convenient than a sink. It is desirable that both elements are located opposite each other.

Features of lighting, kitchen lighting

Several sources of light are necessarily made - at least one for each logical zone of the room. In modern kitchens, in addition to the central ceiling chandelier, it is necessary to place a few more local ones. The working area is illuminated as brightly as possible with the help of spotlights, spots, lamps on a special rail, which are easy to move to almost any place. Often light sources are mounted on the bottom of hanging cabinets. It is advisable to design the illumination of the workplace with lamps with a cold natural light stream, which does not distort the color of the prepared dishes.

The dining area is lit by lamps giving warm light. When the table is in the island, they are hung from the ceiling, if the place is adjacent to the wall, it is permissible to use sconces, lamps on clothespins. It is recommended to equip any ceiling lamps with a mechanism that allows you to adjust their brightness, height above the tabletop. Light ceiling beams look original here, and floor lamps are suitable only for very spacious rooms.
Decorative lights in the form of LED strip "start up" by:

  • the perimeter of the kitchen apron;
  • top and bottom headset;
  • baseboard of a free wall;
  • ceiling cornice;
  • the edges of the hood over the stove.

Local lighting with diodes is often done inside glazed cabinets, and in the vast corner sections hidden behind the dull facades, a small lamp that lights up in response to the door opening will allow you to quickly find the necessary items.

Unusual ideas for kitchens of different configurations

Premises of various shapes are designed very differently.If it is completely incomprehensible how to fit all the plans in the room, separate objects or each individually are drawn on the walls and floor with chalk, observing the available dimensions, given the length and height of the furniture. Use the standard or more original, but difficult in terms of execution layout, decide the owners of the premises, based on its size, planned financial costs.

Modern kitchen design

Small kitchen

It is worth trying to visually expand the tight kitchenette by all available methods: paint the facades of the cabinets with light gloss, highlight every corner of the room, hang several mirrors, and place as few objects as possible. The furniture here is also small-sized - a narrow refrigerator, a compact washing machine, a dishwasher, a hob with only two rings.

To fit all the kitchen utensils, dishes, textiles, part of the cabinets are made high, reaching the ceiling. If there is no place for the refrigerator, it is put out in the corridor, hallway, on the insulated balcony or loggia. The dining room is also transferred to another room or placed behind a folding bar counter, at the extended window sill.

Small kitchen design

Big kitchen

Spacious is considered a kitchen with an area of more than 14-18 square meters. It is easy to fit here not only a cooking place, but also a spacious dining area, a resting place, etc. In this room you can save on furniture dimensions - put a large round table with four to six chairs, a sofa bed, which, if necessary, will become a place to sleep one or two guests. To crown it all - a bar counter, which will not become the main place for eating, but will be used only for friendly gatherings, cocktail parties.

Large kitchen design

Square kitchen

The room, having the shape of a regular square or close to that, is the easiest to arrange. A suitable layout is L-shaped, G-shaped, U-shaped, less often linear and double-row.Island options here also look good, and observing symmetry, if the conceived interior style requires it, will not be difficult.

Square Kitchen Design

Rectangular or elongated kitchen

For a long narrow kitchenette, various methods of correcting its uncomfortable shape are used. The most convenient placement option is linear or double row. U-shaped, island options cannot be placed here - there simply is not enough space for them. To make the room visually close to the square, a huge mirror is placed on the larger side, the smaller one is decorated with a podium with a voluminous sofa having sections for storage in the back and armrests.

Elongated rooms are sometimes rounded, L-shaped - this applies to kitchens with niches, fully connected loggias. Experts recommend fencing off a smaller part with the help of a sliding partition, folding screen, bar counter, equipping one of the functional areas there.

Rectangular kitchen

Kitchen with bay window

The bay window is an architectural ledge with several large windows. It’s not very convenient to arrange kitchen equipment here, since you have to “pull” the gas pipeline, electrical wiring, pipes for water supply, etc. When it is decided to organize a rest place in the bay window, they put a semicircular sofa and a low coffee table there. To equip the dining area, the window sill is expanded, turning it into a kind of bar counter, sitting at which you can admire beautiful views from the windows. If the area of the room allows, a mini-greenhouse is made in the bay window, which heals the atmosphere in the house and decorates the room.

To symbolically separate the bay window, they make a wide arch, put a folding screen, mount glass doors, hang a curtain, a roller blind. The space is also highlighted in a different color, a small podium, individual lighting sources.

Kitchen with bay window

Kitchen-living room

The kitchen combined with the living room usually comes out very spacious.The project is usually compiled with the help of online programs, it is also desirable to make a drawing - sets for rooms of non-standard shapes are most often made to order. The most important thing is to withstand all the available space, to choose furniture in a single style - then it will look as harmonious as possible. And the allocation of different zones with color is acceptable: smaller ones are decorated in lighter colors.

Zoning is made clear here, with the help of a shelf, a large bar counter with “dull” facades, a podium, an arch, or purely symbolic - a different floor covering, bright photo wallpaper, etc. An interesting object that delimits the kitchen and the living room is a fireplace that becomes real or false .

Feng shui and kitchen layout

When decorating a kitchen, many are guided by the principles of Feng Shui. It is believed that in a room designed in this way, the flows of ubiquitous qi energy circulating everywhere are correctly distributed, which favorably affects family relationships and the well-being of everyone living in the apartment.

Esotericists believe that:

  • the kitchen should not be visible from the opening of the front door, since all the well-being of the family goes there. If it is impossible to move it, a garland of bells, light paper or straw structures are hung in front of the entrance;
  • multiple shiny facades of cabinets, the same kitchen apron badly affects a person preparing food, as they reflect on him all the energy that falls on them;
  • in the presence of mirrors, it is not desirable that they be visible from the window;
  • any differences in the heights of the floor and ceiling lead to a curvature of energy flows, which makes them negative;
  • it is undesirable to cook, eat, standing or sitting with your back to the room exit. If otherwise it does not work, then keep the door to the kitchen closed;
  • heavy dark top, in combination with a white bottom is unacceptable - the interior looks unstable, dangerous;
  • mirrored ceiling floor, wall tile splits the image - “breaks” life;
  • acidic and aggressive colors, the abundance of sharp corners leads to conflicts in the family, quarrels;
  • they do not put a stove or a fireplace by the window, since wealth also flies out with heat into the window;
  • cooking is best done on fire, rather than in a microwave that emits radiation. Excessive abundance of household appliances “steals” energy from households;
  • the clutter of furniture, the abundance of garbage, unnecessary interferes with the proper circulation of "qi", which leads to disease;
  • to achieve harmony, everything should be in order — the knives are sharpened, the dishes are washed out, the garbage is taken out, the chairs are pushed under the table.

According to Feng Shui, it is believed that the presence of four elements in the kitchen is necessary: fire, metal, water, wood. The latter is not always available, but its presence is mandatory - a palm tree in a tub or a miniature bonsai tree, an image of nature in the picture, or a plastic figurine will do. Dummy fruits are also suitable.

Layout of the kitchen by Feng Shui
