The Scandinavian style as a whole is a general concept, which is characterized by features of a very harsh climate of the north with often silent inhabitants of these places. The following features are inherent in this style:

  • Nature in Northern Europe is quite severe, there is no multicolor characteristic of the southern regions. For this reason, calm and some moderation prevail in the color scheme of the style. The interior contains monochrome and light shades. To add a twist, you must use juicy bright notes. It resembles a short spring bloom in the cold part of Europe.
  • The style is based on the solidity and practicality that is characteristic of the local people. Residents have to deal with the elements, creating durable and reliable homes. Thanks to this approach, simple, usual-looking furniture, durable windows, warm rugs and bedspreads arose.White bedroom
  • Residents of the north appreciate functionality and practicality. Everything is orderly and carefully planned here.
  • The interior is characterized by such features as restraint, cleanliness. This effect occurs due to the predominance of light tones. The floorboard is also light, which is a curiosity for our homes.
  • A key feature of the style is the use of natural materials. Furniture, decoration, textiles and decorative elements - all these elements should be only of natural origin.
  • This style is not for those who like a catchy, vivid view of the apartment. For the Scandinavian style, almost all elements are discreet and restrained. It is fascinating in its own way, like the beauty of Scandinavian nature.
  • The abundance of light sources is another characteristic feature. In the north, the night lasts half a year, so the Scandinavian peoples are very demanding on the quality of artificial lighting. An abundance of various fixtures, such as chandeliers, sconces, table and floor lamps should at least partially replace the lack of sunlight.

Scandinavian style bathroom interior

According to representatives of the Scandinavian peoples, the use of wallpaper cannot be called practical: temperature changes cause them to become damp, and if you want to change the design, many problems arise. Repainting the walls in order to refresh the style is made much easier and faster.

Narrow little kitchen in white

The zoning of the room can be emphasized by finishing one or several walls with cement plaster, which looks somewhat rude. The method is characteristic of new interiors in the Scandinavian style.

White and gray kitchen

Ceiling is also done with great care, very carefully. If the space between the floor and the ceiling is small, they are often limited only to painting the latter. But if the distance allows, as decorative elements can be used wooden beams.

Kitchen with open top shelves

They are painted in the color of the ceiling or exposed with non-shiny acrylic varnish. The location of such beams on the ceiling is often arbitrary. For the floor, a laminate, parquet or boards can be used. The first is produced mainly by companies from the countries of Scandinavia. The most popular are light gray tones for flooring. Often use almost white shades of a tree that is old. This gives the impression that the floor is covered antique boards, who spent a lot of time on the ship, turned white from constant contact with sand and salt.

Nursery with Scandinavian style

The Scandinavian style is not considered a retro-style, but for it often there are no temporary markers.Corresponding to the philosophy of style will be such items as the old anchor from the ship, a table of the corresponding style, aged floorboards.

White bathroom

To get a Scandinavian interior, you should carefully approach the selection of furniture. The style simply does not allow any frills: a comfortable living room with a table and a sofa, a kitchen table and wardrobes. The window is usually equipped with a leisure area. This idea will be especially good if the windows open a good view.

White entrance hall with wooden floor

The furniture is mostly wooden, with white or light colors. The presence of a fairly huge number of modules for saving various things is a key feature of furniture. Such modules are often open. To store items not for outsiders, containers, baskets and boxes are used, which are installed in open compartments on the lower shelves or in the middle.

Use of textiles

Scandinavian style is difficult to imagine without the use of textiles. It is used for curtains and furniture (upholstery).

Scandinavian bedroom

Do not give preference to textiles with bright colors, which will look redundant in the practical and discreet style of this type of interior. It is better to forget about ruffles, shuttlecocks, other elements or apply them to a different style. The fabrics used must be of natural origin, often knitted fabric and materials with medium and high density fabrics. Bedspreads, rugs and wraps look good, on which animals, waves on the sea surface or snowflakes are traditionally depicted.

Scandinavian-style corner kitchen

A rather interesting solution is to use knitted sweaters, scarves or shawls as covers. Small neat pillows can complement the interior look. The most fashionable today are restrained pillows using simple geometric patterns, or bright pillows with colorful coloring.

For interior decor in this style, elements made of natural materials (vine, metal, wood, clay, their combinations) are suitable. Scandinavians live mainly on the shores of the ocean or sea, recognized as experienced shipbuilders, sailors and fishermen.

Scandinavian style narrow kitchen design

This contributes to the inclusion of rather unexpected elements in the interior, for example, fishing nets as curtains. In the interior you can often see stones turned by water, objects from ships (for example, anchors), models of ships and other decorative elements.

Kitchen with balcony

Scandinavians use presentations in case of various local holidays dolls, baskets of vines and dishes, knitwear. They are carefully stored and serve as decoration. The design of the modern sample often uses prints, decors of simple geometry. Can be used paintings made using pure bright colors.

Bright living room with a working area

A separate place should be allocated to white ceramics, which is presented in the form of vases, bowls, plates and other kitchen utensils. Various glass products are considered fashionable. It is impossible to imagine an interior in the Scandinavian style without lamps, of which a huge variety are used. Much attention is paid to artificial lighting, represented by floor lamps, chandeliers, sconces and other lamps. It seems as if the entire interior was created as a background for lighting fixtures that abound in rooms.
